What the Heck? 1.1.5?

Author : The Lone Stag

So there is an update with iTunes today. A new firmware, 1.1.5. is now available for the iPod Touch. What the heck is this? So far, I have heard that it is hackable. You do have to install FWChanger in Installer if you jailbreak to make the firmware “appear” to be 1.1.4. Does this update actually do anything? So far, no. I have not noticed any changes that actually occur with this update. Personally, I suggest not to update. Even though it costs no money, it just seems like a waste of time to do aat the moment. I will look into it and see why this was even released.

If you did want it, here is the file. http://appldnld.apple.com.edgesuite.net/content.info.apple.com/iPod/SBML/osx/bundles/061-4841.20080714.bgy8O/iPod1,1_1.1.5_4B1_Restore.ipsw

There are changes, especially security fixes. But I cannot understand, what this firmware is good for.

The 2.0 sould have been released even if you don’t want / need the AppStore software.

There are couple of reason why this fw was release, the first one is because there was a way you could trick itunes in to downloading 2.0 legally for free.. this was how

    1. Upgrade to iTunes 7.7
    2. Delete 1.1.4 fw from computer
    3. Put into DFU
    4. Restore
    5. A message pops up saying: the latest fw is 2.0. Do you want do update?
    6. Press yes
    7. Enjoy.

Other reasons are to iron out bug fixes, and also to have an ‘official’ fw version to work with the latest itunes 7.7 for people that can’t afford to buy fw 2.0

OMG! Stupid upgrades. It totally wiped my last hack, and all the app with it! Now I tried to do it again, and it just freezes, and doesn’t want to work! Never again…

  4. Daina, July 16, 2008:

I’m trying to re-upload the ‘iPhone 1.1.4 Apps’, but it says i need the 1.1.4 firmware, so I downloaded both FWChanger and JFWChanger, and neither helped. It’s still saying the same thing! Help!!

  5. MechanicalMind, July 16, 2008:

Dont lose hope! You cant really brick you ipod touch as such, so just relax and try to follow the guides on here. At what stage are you at the mo? Can you not even restore to 1.1.4 by doing a shift+click ‘restore’ ?

  6. MechanicalMind, July 16, 2008:

    @ Daina

You might as well just restore to 1.1.4. 1.1.5 is pointless imo. Do you know how to restore back to 1.1.4? There is a guide here…

  7. Daina, July 17, 2008:

Ok, well, I kinda tried to change back to 1.1.4 by myself. :S (didn’t work). I was very tired and frustrated, and was clicking on different links in ZiPhone…(don’t ask) and now it’s stuck on the line “BSD root: md0, major 2, minor 0″ and I can’t get out of it even after restarting, so I can’t even follow the guide! :( Any suggestions? Sorry to be such a pain.

  8. MechanicalMind, July 17, 2008:

Theres a few vids on youtube that should be able to help you out, this is one http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2q5L5cH0vkg

Basically you’ll just need to hold both the sleep/on/off button AND the home button together until it turns off, keep holding them when the apple logo comes on until it pops up with the itunes symbol and USB connection, then in itunes it should recognise your device and that it needs to be restored. Then just shift+click ‘Restore’ in itunes and select the firmware file you want to restore to your touch ie 1.1.4. Then you’ll be back to a fresh install.

Maybe if ZiPhone is giving you probs, you should try one of the other jailbreaking methods. iLiberty perhaps? or if you’re feeling brave winpwn :-)

  12. MechanicalMind, July 17, 2008:

    Daina

check this post out ‘How to recover from BSD root: md0, major 2, minor 0 without restore’

    http://www.ipodtouchfans.com/forums/showthread.php?t=43872&highlight=ssh+apps+touch

    @feyenoord

to bring it back, you’ll need to restore therefore you’ll lose your music on you ipod

    @Da Man

Have you tried manually putting it in to restore mode or ‘DFU’ mode using any of the guides here?

  13. feyenoord0808, July 18, 2008:

i need help!! stupid upgrade 1.1.5 sucks!! i upgraded it and jailbroke it.. which works.. but they don’t have any apps and stuff for 1.1.5! like no customize. AND my keyboard keeps freezing if im on safari.. HELP!!

  19. mopanelooser, July 20, 2008:

dam 1.1.5 to hell, i had a hacked 1.1.4 and i had it exactly as i wanted it, then i had a major crash and had to restore my ipod, i didnt know about 1.1.5 so when the restore was up, my firmware changed. I dont even want to bother with jailbreaking 1.1.5, i just want to get back to 1.1.4 so i can redo EVERYTHING that i had, any suggestions

  20. julio, July 21, 2008:

firmware 1.1.5 can still be put into DFU mode using the advanced options on the Ziphone program but downloading the 1.1.4 firmware from the Ziphone link dosnt work on the itouch instead download the 1.1.4 firmware from the link on how to downgrade from 2.0 to 1.1.4 when your done with the download put the ipod into DFU mode and then itunes will say it found an ipod in recovery mode then hold shift and hit restore then just find the downloaded 1.1.4 firmware for the ipod and let it do its thing

    hope this helps : )

  21. mopanelooser, July 21, 2008:

  22. Kreos, July 22, 2008:

    hi
just to say, i looked back at the recent posts (the one asking what we wanted on this site) and i just wanted to say that i would like to see Jailbreak progress on the version 2.0 for iPod Touch. thanks =D

  23. Don't Worry, July 23, 2008:

For those of you that are fretting over 1.1.5 affecting your jailbreak, don’t. I just jailbroke my touch twice with ZiPhone (twice because the first time something or other screwed up with installer - don’t ask), and it worked perfectly the first time both times.

  24. Don't Worry, July 23, 2008:

I think I know what affected my touch the first time, and it had something to do with a step in the detailed 1.1.4 tutorial that involved adding a source. That screwed up Installer AND the Safari keyboard.

  25. Henry Myers, July 23, 2008:

I updated to 1.1.5 and am kicking myself. Yes ziphone jail broke it; the installer worked, but something is draining my battery in 5 or 6 hours even when the ipod is not being used. I’m testing to see if it is the ziphone update or the great siphon software (touchmods) that makes the ipod touch into a voi phone.

  26. Deano, July 23, 2008:

    @ Henry Myers…

It could be SSH install bossprefs and turn it off
