Since rAwks created his own Top 5 Apps post, I thought it was only fair that I steal the idea from him. In no particular order, here are my top 5 favorite applications.
1. PowerTool
- Powertool is found in the iHackers repo (pretty sure in Community Sources or Big Boss). It is a really simple tool. All it does is is Re-Spring the Springboard (by reseting the language or by restarting it) or reboots your iPod (turning it off and back on again). I like it because sometimes Installer doesn’t work right or refreshes don’t work at all. I have never had a problem with it and it has always served me well.
2. Mobile Chat
- Mobile Chat is found in the repo “twenty08.com/installer”. It is without a doubt the best chat client ever made for the iPod. It supports AOL, AIM, .mac, XMPP, MSN, and ICQ. It has a great interface and supports the accelerometer so that you can flip it sideways to type. It runs in the background too, if you want to do other stuff when you are logged on. If you don’t have time to turn on your computer to check your IM client, or you just want to IM on your iPod, this app is for you.
3. Summerboard
- Summerboard is found in the Community Sources source (under System). Summerboard is the basic app that shows people that you have hacked your iPod. With different background pics, app icons, and styles, this app creates a more personalized feeling with your iPod (see also, Customize). This app is the symbol of pwnership (Yeah, I made that word up) of your iPod.
4. SendFile and SwapPlugins
- These apps are afound in the iSpazio source “repo.iSpazio.net” (found in Utilities). You have to make sure you install the Jiggy Runtime (in Community Sources in the Development folder). These apps allow you to download songs from Safari (on the website “seeqpod.com”). Once installed, go into the SwapPlugins app and click “Enable Downloading”. Then go into Safari, type in the website (seeqpod.com) and search for your song. When you find it, click on it. Then click download and wait for it to finish. Look in the SendFile app, click the file and click “play audio”. Now you can get free music. To get the songs off your iPod, you will have to find the folder by SSH’ing into your iPod. Read my post on how to SSH to find out how.
5. Make it Mine
- Make it Mine is found in Community Sources in the Utilities folder. Not a whole lot to this app, but it is pretty cool. By default, at the top left side of the screen it says iPod (or AT&T if you own an iPhone). This app allows you to change that. You can write whatever you want on it, like your iPod’s name (if you name your iPod) or your own. Personally, I wrote “iPwnd” just because I felt like it. Take that Apple.
So there you are. Pretty cool stuff, eh? Way better than rAwks’s I bet (just kidding rAwks). Comment on my choice if you feel like it, or add your own favorites.
Also, if you need help with your iPod, email me at “LoneStag01@aim.com”. I do not reply to posts, unless to say that. Posts are for thanks or help from other hackers. I will answer your emails. Guaranteed.
