Ok, here’s what I gotta say. Listen up, pay attention, and you just might learn something.
I have tried out firmware 2.0. I may or may not have downloaded it from somewhere, but I am not allowed to POST where I got it (hint hint). I will be posting a more detailed look at 2.0 in the very near future. I will say this: it is not as good as a jailbroken 1.1.4. I DO NOT recommend upgrading. Live the hacker way. I think it is stupid to have to BUY apps. Just my linuxy opinion. PLUS, the apps weren’t all really special. I saw a few familiar names, some stupid and pointless ones, and some ridiculously expensive ones ($45!!!). But I digress.
Since rAawks left, I have been getting a lot of emails asking for help. Good job to those who listened and emailed me directly for help (LoneStag01@aim.com). For those of you who post IN ALL CAP LOCKS and are panicking because of a bug or glitch, PAY ATTENTION. Also, forĀ those of you answer these distressed posters, I thank you. Good job. Keep up the good work.
How many people out there actually own an iPhone and show up to this site? How many own Macs? I am sorry to inform you that I own neither. I cannot tell you how many answers I had to look up on other sites because I owned neither. How many of you are on this site? Should I buy one? Would people donate (via PayPal) to my cause?Just curious.
Now onto the request part. I have already stated that I do not support updating to 2.0. It is not hackable yet, and it is very hard to return back to 1.1.4. If people do need instructions how to return, post on this article. If i get enough, I will write a “Detailed Instructions” article. Anyway, I need to know what you readers want to know. Do you want AppStore information? Do you want hacker information? Jailbreak progress? Thoughts? Descriptions of apps (Installer and AppStore)? Interviews with hackers (Zibri of ZiPhone?) Honestly, I need some ideas.
This site was created to help you.

yes, please do post how to return back to 1.1.4 from 2.0
my iPod Touch was jailbroken (1.1.4) and I updated to 2.0, mainly to try out the App Store, but also because I’ll soon be getting an iPhone, then I’ll pass on the Touch to someone else in the family and they can do whatever with it. and I’m assuming that sooner or later someone will jailbreak 2.0 so no problems there..
one thing I’ve noticed is there’s a couple odd things that seem to be related to file permissions
1. when I reboot the Touch, a website bookmark I saved on the homepage keeps returning, even if I delete it.
i.e. delete icon, it goes away. reboot, the icon reappears. it was a bookmark I had saved back when the iPod was in jailbroken state
2. if I set my .Mac email settings, they don’t get saved. meanwhile, my gmail account settings (which were set back when it was in jailbroken state), reappear when I reboot, even if I delete them
my assumption is there is some system state stored that gets reloaded on reboot, and perhaps the file where it is stored has the wrong permissions set as a result of the jailbreak. I remember there was some issue with the default user being root in earlier versions, then mobile in others (and corresponding /var/root and /var/mobile root directories. in some earlier jailbreaks I remember having to manually fix some file permissions here and there.
restoring from backup doesn’t fix it. completely erasing the iPod contents from the Settings menu doesn’t fix it. it’s only a minor annoyance at this time, but I guess what I need to do is get back to jailbroken state and look for the offending file and change permissions (I vaguely recall there was some system file that caused this same problem before, I forget)
anyhow, if anyone has a suggestion, or instructions how to revert back to 1.1.4, I’d appreciate it. Thanks!
PLEASE! Post how to get back to 1.1.4. I am horribly disappointed with 2.0, and want to get back in the worst way!
I too would like to lnow how to retreat from version 2.0. By the way, I own an Ipod touch and a MAC Book.
Here here!!
I completely agree about not having to pay for these things. As far as upgrading to 2.0 I absolutely agree with Lonestag. You might want to wait at least until the bugs are worked out or until you hear enough reviews to get a really good idea what is involved with it. All this said, it appears that many of the jailbroken apps are requiring a fee as well. This is disappointing. If the trend keeps up, jailbreaking will mean less. As far as downgrading from 2.0 to 1.1.4 I would imagine that downloading and running the 1.1.4 firmware might work. but I have not done this and would have to defer to Lonestag. Also, I own neither a Mac of an Iphone. It would be great if some of the Mac/Iphone users could help the new users as well.
hey
i have been really tempted to upgrade to 2.0. if you need an idea you could make a video of why it is worse because i have always assumed that it would be better since many of the apps come directly from the company and i have found that you ussually get a higher quality from large companies instead of individual developers. so basicly my idea is that you could just make a short video showing how 2.0 is worse for specific types of people such as people who want to use it for gaming, work/ schedual, blogging/ other internet related apps, and any other important categories.
thanks for your time and keep up the good work!
Hey, I have ordered an iPhone on the internet, and i think its coming with firmware 2.0, since im probably not the only one, please show us how to downgrade. I think its complete B$ that they charge people for a firmware upgrade…
Please post how to downgrade from 2.0 back so I can have it jailbroken again.
Hey I think you should put out a post with all the apps you think are worth peoples time. There are so many apps on installer i could never look through them all. Im just curious to what ones you have found
