Hello. If you are reading this, you have upgraded to firmware 2.0 and miss the old 1.1.4. No problem (even though I warned you). Here is what you gotta do. It is a little tricky, with 2 whole (complicated) steps, but it is worth it to be back into the hacking world. Here is the first video tutorial for the site on how to do it:
Detailed Instructions on how to Downgrade from 2.0 to 1.1.4
1. Downgrade iTunes
- Since you need iTunes 7.7 in order to have 2.0, you need to downgrade and get iTunes 7.5 back.
- First, uninstall iTunes 7.7. Once done, it will ask you to restart your computer. Do it.
- Once restarted, download iTunes 7.5.
- If it doesn’t run, in Windows, go to Start, Search, All Files and Folders. Type “iTunes Library.itl”. Find the file and delete it. Now it should work.
2. DFU Mode
- This mode is a little tricky. First, connect your iPod. iTunes will pop up and say it won’t work with this version of iTunes. That is ok. You just need to put it into DFU Mode.
- Turn up the sound on your computer. Next, turn your iPod off. Hold power and home for 10 (ten) seconds (as in 1001, 1002, 1003…). Let go of the power button while still holding the home button. Hold this until you here your computer give the “USB Connected Sound” (”Ba Dum” I think). Then let go. You are now in DFU Mode.
- Now in iTunes, hold Shift and Click restore. Select the 1.1.4 firmware.
- Let it do its thing.
- If you get an error when you restore, use ZiPhone to get your device out of restore mode by running the program and going to Advanced Features, Normal Mode.
- Once done, you should have firmware 1.1.4 on your iPod again. Jailbreak instructions are here.
There you go. Maybe you will listen next time. Also, as an added bonus, you can watch my first video on how to jailbreak. Maybe this will help you more. Nope your itunes will stay there…. however they may get cleared from your library, but all you need to do is import your tunes from the destination folder again in to the library

You need to just follow Step 2 explictly. You WILL be able to restore it. Just repeat the DFU mode until it works. The first time i entered DFU mode on my PC, it popped up with a notification icon telling me so

Your itunes will remain intact on your computer, worst comes to the worst just import them all again. Your library essentially is just a link to your itunes folder
when i try to restore to 1.1.4 it gives me an error 1604.

explain more detail please… someone has restored your iphone for you??? I would maybe suggest try restoring it yourself in itunes with a shift+click ‘Restore’ and use the 1.1.4 firmware and if that doesnt work then surely you’ll be covered under warranty still so i would then suggest taking it back to the store you got it from
Yeah I’ve asked my friend to help me fix it, coz he had the same problem and he fixed it.

I diowngraded my itunes to 7.5, put my itouch into DFU mode and did a restore to 1.1.4 but it still gives me an error 1601 so i used Z iphone to restart in normal mode but it says permission denied and won’t do anything.

thank you Lone Stag for this video I didnt use it for 2.0 firmware I actually had to downgrade from firmware 1.1.5 because it had so many bugs when i jailbroke it and too many problems would occur so i just follwed the step by step vid. and got back my 1.1.4

To those who are having problems with errors popping up when they are restoring with the 1.1.4 firmware, Re-download it. I had heaps of trouble when I was a n00b because I kept downloading corrupt firmware (or the firmware was getting corrupted while downloading from apple). The best way is to find a (Trusted) torrent (if you don’t know what this is google it) as it seems to manage downloads a bit more accurately.
Also an easy way to enter DFU mode it as follows.
1. Open ITunes
2. Plug the USB end of your ipod cable in to the Computer.
3. Turn off your Ipod completely (hold home and sleep button for a few seconds and the slide to power down).
4. Hold the home button (Round one, on the touch) down and plug the cable in to the ipod.
5. keep holding the home button
6. The ipod will boot in to DFU mode. ITunes will say there is an ipod in recovery mode.

I have been trying to downgrade from 2.0 to 1.1.4 on my ipot all day. I have went back and forth from itunes 7.5 to 7.7. I have successfully put my ipot into DFU mode (not recovery mode) and I still keep getting errors in itunes that range from errors: (20), (1600), (1601)…
The latest problem I am having is with itunes 7.5 installed, I plug in my ipot and it gives me the “cannot use ipot because I need 7.7) I cancel that out and then attempt to put my ipot into DFU. I’ll power down and then hold both buttons for ten seconds. I release the sleep button while holding the home button and a few seconds later I hear the windows signal for a usb device being connected. Actually, it’s not the normal sound I hear (ba dah) , it’s in the same tone as that but it kind of skips and soiunds more like (da da da) my screen is black, as if it were in DFU mode but it never shows up in itunes for me to click ‘restore’… I am about ready to give up.. any help would be appreciated. I have exhausted all instructions that I have read so far.

This works however, after I run ZiPhone again my phone will not show any cellular service. I can use all aps on the phone with WiFi but I have no bars and no carrier name in the upper left corner. If I go into settings the option to set up the Edge connection is not there. Any ideas? My SIM works perfectly in my Zinc II.
Ok, I got this working. I downgraded the baseband and all is well.
I’ve just downgraded to 1.1.4, which worked fine. But when I went to add the sites for the January apps it came up with a ‘can’t refresh’ error. I’ve double checked the addresses and the are correct. Any thoughts?

If you are getting error(5) like I did, you are probably using iphone firmware 1.1.4 to downgrade your ipod.

what is the source you are trying to get Jan Apps from in Installer. Think the one i got them from was ipodtouched.net/repo.xml
On a side note I am pleased to read that some people can seem to follow these guidelines to the point!

Tried both http://ipodtouchmaster.com/files/repo.xml and http://repo.applerepo.com, as instructed in the April 1 post, but neither appear to be recognized (this time): they listed are under “Uncatagorized” as an “Untitled Source”. Perhaps I should start from the beginning again - reinstall the firmware, jailbreak, etc?

ahhh… if it say uncategorised then the source wasn’t correct. perhaps try entering it like http://ipodtouched.net/repo.xml…if its accepted it the title will definitely show up ‘Ipodtouched.net’
Alternatively, have you tried the iSpazio source? try this spaziocellulare.com/ispazio.xml or if that doesnt work put http:// before it. try the former first though
If you want to add all sources add this source http://ride4.org/shai.xml and then go to ‘Sources’ under ‘Install’ and install ‘All Sources’. Note though that this does duplicate some sources, so when you say for instance click on ‘All packages’ some apps/games will come up 3 times lol. My touch is like that at the minute, just cant be arsed to trawl through and delete the sources

Okay, so I’ve reinstalled the firmware and jailbreak, but noticed that when I went to install BSD Subsystem that it was not available as an install option. After checking the ‘Uninstall’ tab I could see that it had been automatically installed. An attempt to reinstall by hitting the ‘reinstall’ button failed. Could this be the reason why the repo sites are not being recognized?

I just spent a long time working with my iTouch trying to get it to downgrade. I have had quite a bit of experience jailbreaking and such, so i was getting frustrated that this wasn’t working for me. What i finally realized was the problem was that i was not actually in DFU mode, i was in face in recovery mode. Make sure to follow the timing that he does in the video exactly (the video helps a lot). If you have done it right, nothing will appear on the screen of the iPod. If you see the itunes logo with the usb cord that means you are in RECOVERY MODE not DFU mode, so you’ll need to restart and try again. Hope this helps those having trouble.

@MechanicalMind: Not sure what’s going on with the forum delay, but didn’t get your last until after I reinstalled everything. Anyway, I tried the sites suggested with mixed results (and yes, http:// was used in all cases). First off, ipodtouchedrepo was recognized as a source, but unfortunately I’ve not had any success in downloading any of the packages. Shai was also recognized as a source. However, I can’t see any applications of use (such as mail, maps etc). Perhaps I’m missing something. Spazio was not recognized as a source (using both .con and .com!) so no luck there.
Edit: After the fourth attempt to install the apps from ipodtouchedrepo, I had success! So now I’m a happy camper.

I did an accidental upgrade to v2.0 so I’m trying to get back to 1.1.4 and an unlocked phone.
I can get the phone into DFU mode ok but every time i try and recover it I get error 1 or 5, any clues?
Forgot to say I’ve also tried getting phone back to normal mode with Ziphone but Ziphone just detects it in DFU mode and does nothing with it.
Also tried Ibrickr but that doesn’t even detect it’s there, I’m quickly
losing what little hair I have left!!

okay i uninstalled 7.7 restarted with 2.0 SW still on the ipod touch. after restarting installed 7.5 itunes says could not use device newer version stuff. so i out it into DFU at this point and shift click restored 1.1.4 seem liked it would work perfect only it dosent i get unknown error occured (10)

If you are using Vista and you are having any kind of problems restoring your touch of iphone. Try using XP instead of Vista. I seems that Itunes really dislikes Vista.

ok i can get the error 1015, which puts the phone in restore mode, but i cant get it back out to normal mode.. ive tryed Ziphone v3.0 but its not working.. it just says “working to restart phone” or something like that.. anyone else have this problem? help please!
wait scratch that… i just repeated the 1.1.4 update in itunes and tryed ziphone “normal mode” again and it worked! then i just jail broke the phone from there.. 1.1.4 with a 4.5.4 g baseband.

i have the 8gb iphone.
i updated my itunes n i locked it again.
i tried to unlock it using ziphone but it did not work.
Than i followed those instructions above and it takes me back into recovery mode.
Than I take it out of recovery mode using ziphone,normal mode.
I try to restore b/c without restoring you are not able to use itunes.
But now it says this software for this iphone is unavailable. Make sure u have the lastest version of itunes and try again.
If i update it, i will not be able to unlock my iphone.
please, help me. I havent been able to use my phone for a week.

I agree with Kristian # 75, itunes hates Vista, I have tried doing this about 50 times to no luck. I’m formating in the morning and going with my old XP. I think Vista SUCKS!
I had big time troubles with this method. I tried everything I read and could think of until I told myself this piece of shit wasn’t going to beat me. So what I ended up doing was first I downloaded the firmware from this link, then I ran Itunes as an administrator. When the ipod was verifying the restore, I unplugged the cable. Of course Itunes gave an error, then I plugged it back in. Then I started the restore over again without turning off my ipod touch. Vista then installed the driver as itunes was restoring it. It finally worked.
Guess What! You won’t believe it but I restored my Ipod Touch from 2.0 to 1.1.3 using Itunes 7.7.1! All you have to do is put the Ipod into DFU mode, plug it into the computer, start itunes, hold shift + restore and wham. It was that easy. Ain’t I Neat!
