iTunes Update

Author : rooster

Apple just released its new update for iTunes: 2.2.1 (5H11a).

Do not update!!!  The Dev Team would recommend that anybody looking for a working JB should not update.

My opinion states: Don’t update unless it needs it.

The current iTunes and lots of previous versions are stable and don’t really need an update.  The only thing I would recommend, if you have not updated to a version with Genius support already, that you do so. If you have a fair amount of songs and dislike the pains of going through manually to make playlists, Genius is great.

iTunes to Go DRM Free!!

Author : rooster

This would be amazing.  iTunes and the Digital Rights Management are currently discussing a very hot topic: whether to freely distribute certain MP3s.   The rumor this past week has concerned the verdict of these discussions and when both parties would meet a consensus.  Supposedly this date was December 9Th.  However, these rummors were just that and turned out only partially correct.

There is good news though.  Apple is in negotiation with the three record labels (Sony, Universal, and Warner), and is in fact trying to get the music to be sold DRM-free. These negotiations are not going smoothly. But don’t lose hope, it is quite likely that we will have some sort of breakthrough, whether that be DRM-free music or not, in early 2009.

iTunes Music Store is Safe!

Author : rooster

The iTunes Music Store is safe.  The royalty rate remains unchanged after the Copyright Royalty Board decideds to keep royalty rates at 9.1 cents. Music publishers had been pushing for an increase to 15 cents per track,  Apple was not very happy with this potential change and threatened to shut down the iTunes Music Store. It worked and iTunes is happily safe for now. Yeah!
