So you just purchased a new iPad, and you are excited to try out the new Retina display. So what do you do? Open up your Netflix app, browse some nifty high-resolution artwork, click play and – what?! You’re looking at the same standard-definition video. So what’s up?
Well, it seems Netflix is taking their sweet time in allowing HD streaming on the new iPad. So, in the mean time, they updated their artwork to appear nice and crisp, but left streaming untouched. Netflix tweeted that HD streaming is “on the way.” Netflix is already streaming 1080p content to the new Apple TV’s, but those wanting to watch some “Limitless” in crystal-clear HD on the new iPad will have to wait.
But of course, delayed gratification doesn’t go over well with consumers nowadays, so what’s a person wanting to indulge in some 1080p content to do? There are a few options. Apple has updated iTunes to include 1080p movies, so if price is no object (most are $4.99 a rental), you can see all the new releases that way.

But, of course, there needs to be a free option! There is. Apple’s “Apple Trailers” app was recently updated to stream HD content, and it looks amazing. (Make sure that you allow your new iPad to buffer a bit, because if it hiccups while streaming, it will reload in standard definition). Hope this helps tie you over until Netflix decides to cause some more strain on their servers by allowing 1080p on the new iPad. We’ll keep you updated!

March 7th saw the announcement of Apple’s newest iPad, named simply “New iPad”. A departure from tradition, this marks Apple’s decision to discontinue a numerical model, instead focusing on refreshing the model on an assumed yearly basis. This is similar to the iPod line, where instead of numbers, the generation or year is used. Speculation has started that Apple may decide to introdudce this naming scheme for their newest iPhone. But enough on the name, what was all the hype about?
The New iPad’s most striking feature is its Retina display, a crystal-clear 2048 x 1536 pixels, totaling for over 3.1 million pixels. To put this into understandable terms, your HD 1080p television has a resolution of 1920 x 1080. So the iPad’s screen now has a better resolution than your TV, all packed into a 9.7″ screen. And the fun doesn’t stop there.

What’s under the hood? Apple needed some more muscle to power such a pixel-intensive screen, so they upgraded the internals to Apple’s A5X chip. This means quad-core graphics for blistering speeds. 4G LTE is also a new feature, offering a significant bump in using Verizon or AT&T’s 4G LTE networks. This means faster downloads and streaming speeds. Apple’s finally allowing you to use your iPad as a mobile hotspot now, providing wireless internet to your friends, if your carrier allows it.
So you like to take pictures and video? Apple’s got you covered. Continuing their obsession for assigning creative names to features such as the “Retina” screen, the new iPad will have five-megapixel iSight (see what they did there?) camera, very similar to the one found in the iPhone 4S. This will also shoot 1080p video.

Keeping the same battery life (10 hours wifi, 9 hours 4G LTE), and pricing scheme ($499 +), you can enjoy all of the new iPad’s new features without having to plug it in, or empty your wallet (somewhat). Pre-orders are live, but if you want to hold one on March 16th, you might want to line up, Apple’s site is showing delayed shipping for online models. We’ll continue to review the new iPad (I managed to snag a pre-order due to arrive March 16th). What do you think? Are the new features enough of an upgrade, or were you expecting more? Let us know in the comments below!
Hey iPodTouchHackers, it’s been a long time since I’ve updated but this summer should have a lot of Apple action and I hope to give you coverage, hints, tips, and tricks along the way!
iPhone OS is going to have a lot of updates that are really going to change the way people use the iphone.
1. Multitasking
Double click the home button and up pops a “fast-switch” tool bar for your currently running applications. Apple has introduced this update with the following possibilities. Available for Background Audio Streaming, VoIP, Background Location, Push notifications, local application notifications, task completion, fast app switching.
2. Folders
Drag and drop your applications into folders that are automatically subdivided into categories but can also be customized.
3. Home Screens
You can now chose a different home screen and lock screen. One analyst believes the new iPhone will have a sharper screen as well.
4. Finally a universal inbox
5. iBooks – the same app for the iPad . . . just smaller
6. Game Center allows you access to 50,000 gaming titles in the App Store. Game Center brings social aspects to games. Challenge friends, leaderboards, achievements etc.
7. iAd – Apple’s version of ads, makes them more consistent, creative, effective, and probably annoying but we’ll see.

But something was quitely changed by Apple today as well. . . .
Apple has removed the restrictions surrounding Voice Over Internet Protocol in the new iPhone OS SDK. This means that users may now use VoIP services over 3G networks. iCall, the first of a presumable plethora of VoIP apps to be released, is already available on the App store.

Apple has recently let out that its next big release date will be January 27th!!!!!
Although Apple is not expected to release the MacPro, Macbook Pro, or new Desktop Monitor (all of who’s product cycles have come to an end) they are expected to release a the long awaited iPad, iPhone 4.0 software, and iLife 2010.
The Wall Street Journal reports:
… the screen is expected to be 10 to 11 inches and priced somewhere in the ballpark of $1000. . .
and
In short, it looks like this device is going to be a household appliance used by multiple people to consume media. The device may even have a built-in camera to identify the user.
But as you know, these are just rumors.
