RedSn0w Jailbreak Tutorial
Install the new iOS 4.0 for you device
Download the 4.0 firmware (iPhone 3G and iPod Touch 2G)
Plug in you device
Hold down (shift in windows) or (alt on a Mac) and click the “restore” button
Select the 4.0 firmware you just downloaded
Your device will now update
Now Run RedSn0w
RedSn0w will prompt you to locate your IPSW for your corresponding firmware ( This IPSW is the firmware you just downloaded)
Find the firmware (IPSW) and hit “next”
A prompt will ask you whether you have the iPod Touch 2G “MC” model.
To find out whether you have this model go to Settings General About
Respond appropriately
Click “Next”
Select the Options you want enabled
Tip: Always keep Cydia selected
Plug in your device, making sure it is OFF
Enter DFU mode the on-screen instructions will lead you through this process easily
If you correctly entered DFU mode, you screen will go white and the jailbreaking process is on its way
Eventually, it will reboot and there you go!
PwnageTool Jailbreak Tutorial
Download PwnageTool 4.01 (Mac & Windows)
Download iTunes 9.2
Download iOS 4 firmware IPSW (Here)
Launch PwageTool and select your device
Browse and select the IPSW (firmware) you just downloaded
Next you will be asked whether you have an iPhone contract that would activate normally through iTunes. TO UNLOCK YOUR iPHONE 3Gs CLICK “NO”. If you do not want to unlock your iphone merely click “YES”
Now PwnageTool will build a custom IPSW for your device
A “iHaz Success” message should appear
Go into iTunes
Plug in your device
Hold down (shift in windows) or (alt on a Mac) and click the “restore” button
Browse and select the newly created IPSW
After that installation your device will reboot and you should now have a fully jailbroken / unlocked device!
Jailbreaking all devices Running 3.1.2 / 3.1.3 / 3.2 Firmware
Spirit Jailbreak will allow you to unlock any device running on any of the above firmware
Spirit is not a carrier unlock
Any version of iTunes earlier than 9.2!
Sync your device with iTunes
Download Spirit
Connect your device
Hit Jailbreak
Your device should now boot up to your home screen in a matter of 30 seconds or so
You’re done, time to have fun!
Unlocking your iPhone after Jailbreaking
In the past unlocking (allowing your iphone to run on different carriers) and jailbreaking were done with the same tools. However, recently unlocking has become more complicated and different tools have emerged.
PwnageTool 4.01 though, will allow you to unlock your iPhone 3Gs (Old Bootrom) if you have not yet upgraded to firmware 3.1.3.
Additionally, you can downgrade to a prior firmware to make this unlock a possibility.
You can use UltraSn0w as a iPhone 3G carrier unlock as well.
step 1. You must have jailbroken your device and have Cydia downloaded
step 2. Go into Cydia and search for UltraSn0w. If it is not to be found, you might have to add the following repo: repo666.ultrasn0w.com
step 3. Download ultrasn0w
step 4. reboot
How to Unlock your iOS 4.01 on your iPhone 4:
UltraSnow 1.0-1 will unlock:
- The iPhone 3G, iPhone 3GS, and iPhone 4
- Basebands 01.59.00, 04.26.08, 05.11.07, 05.12.01 and 05.13.04
Note that UltraSn0w will work no matter what your iPhone model number is.
step 1. Make sure your phone is activated with its original sim card.
step 2. Jailbreak your phone using Jailbreakme.com
step 3. Go into Cydia and search for UltraSn0w. If it is not to be found, you might have to add the following repo: repo666.ultrasn0w.com
step 4. Download ultrasn0w
step 5. reboot

OMG I installed 4.0 OS and tried using redsn0w via your links – both links are the Mac version so I had to go to another site to d/l redsn0w for windows… one version wouldn’t read my IPSW so i D/Ld the latest version which recognizes my IPSW but tells me because I have a MC model the software was not made for my phone. In further google searching, there is no current jailbreak method for 4.0 OS – at least without a Mac.
Guess I have to downgrade now… what a waste of a evening…. -

Stop trying to use technology and track down an Etch-a-Sketch. Maybe that’s more your speed. Be sure to read the manual though.
