ZiPhone Works

Author : The Lone Stag

Update:

There are currently new instructions on how to jailbreak your iPod Touch 1.14. If you would like to jailbreak your iPod Touch please use the new instructions.

Ziphone has updated it’s jailbreaking method to work with any version of iPod Touch. It jailbreaks it automatically and takes about a minute. You must be on firmware 1.1.4 in order for this to work. If you have any music on it, it will still be on it after the jailbreak, and Purchased music actually works on it. It seems like my jailbreaking post is not useful anymore, but who cares now. I tried this method and it worked perfectly. I highly recommend doing it since it is easy, fast, and actually works.

Download ZiPhone at the website: http://download.ziphone.org/

If this doesn’t work, then do a manual restore (hold power and home until it turns off, keep holding until it says connect to iTunes) and restore to version 1.1.4 and try again.

Make sure the first thing you install is BSD Subsystem, so you will be able to run your apps.

I’m just wondering if this works with a 16gb ipod touch because ive heard that the ziphone method doesnt work with 16gb’s but does the new one work or not??
    Thanks alot

  2. The Lone Stag, March 14, 2008:

Yes it does. It works with any size (first sentence).

  3. rAwks, March 15, 2008:

I didn’t read carefully that I had to be on firmware 1.1.4 when I used Ziphone, until I started the jailbreak. I thought something might happen, so I said to kill Ziphone. Now, my iPod is stuck doing a BSD root stack. WHAT SHOULD I DO?!? I tried restarting it, but it would shut down and then when I turn it on…it would still do the BSD root stack still. Please help ASAP!

  4. rAwks, March 15, 2008:

    I fixed it…thanks!

  5. Drew, March 15, 2008:

    Lone Stag,

Thanks for the link! Will this app give us the January Software Update like your method did?

  6. rAwks, March 15, 2008:

Drew…I’m not Lone Stag, but it DOES NOT include the January Software Update. You can add on your source “ipodtouchmaster.com/files/repo.xml” This will add the January Software Update.

Long Stag, this was a very VERY simple jailbreak, but the only problem is that some applications don’t work with 1.1.4. I was SO happy to jailbreak my iPod so quickly, but now I’m bummed out because applications I use on a daily basis…don’t work!

  7. The Lone Stag, March 15, 2008:

    To rAwks:

I agree, but because of this easy method, people will be updating their apps soon. Good spot for the repo, I use it too. Someday I might create my own repo with all these good apps and more, if I get enough requests in my request post.

  8. Tim, March 15, 2008:

From everything i’ve read and the videos i’ve watched, this WILL work with 1.1.3 right?

  9. The Lone Stag, March 15, 2008:

    To Tim:

Actually, no. It must be firmware 1.1.4.

  10. rAwks, March 15, 2008:

I used ipodtouchmasters repo to get the January Software update, but the mail application doesn’t work. When I click on it, it just crashes. Is there another source out there that will work to get these features?!?

  11. Tomm Havoc, March 15, 2008:

My 8gb ipod touch worked with 1.1.3

  12. Sandeep, March 15, 2008:

    hi,

I have a 16GB 1.1.4 version. Badly want to jailbreak it and insall some apps like games and mail so that when im on the move i’ll be able to play around with my ipod.

i have downloadsd the ziphone. Can anyone tell me how much time does it take to do the jailbreak and will my music, videos and photos still be present after the jailbreak?

Can i restore the ipod to older versions using itunes if something goes wrong while jailbreaking?

  13. Hisun, March 15, 2008:

I jailbroke my 16G ipod touch, everything works fine until I tried to enter source in the Installer. After typing the a few characters, the Installer hung and no way out. I have to press the power and home button.

  14. Tomm Havoc, March 15, 2008:

    To Hisun,

That happened to me the first time I jail broke it with ziphone.
I reupgraded, downgraded, again. and it worked the second time

  15. Sandeep, March 15, 2008:

    hi all,

i have managed to jailbreak without any problems !!

thanks for all the posts here it was so simple.. esp the software..

  16. Caleb, March 15, 2008:

    BSD root: md0, major 2, minor 0

it says this over and over again and im stuck cause it wont restart and go back to main menu

    can you help?

  17. The Lone Stag, March 15, 2008:

    To rAwks:

Open installer and install the SYNCFIX (in iClarified). Restart your iPod and connect it to iTunes.

  18. The Lone Stag, March 15, 2008:

    To Hisun:

Try reinstalling installer. Do this by opening installer and in the featured tab, click the installer symbol and then reinstall.

  19. The Lone Stag, March 15, 2008:

    To Caleb:

Hold power and home until it turns off, then keep holding until it says connect to itunes. Then restore to firmware 1.1.4 and try again.

  34. harry, March 17, 2008:

Hey, whats the advantages of upgrading to firmware 1.1.4 if im on 1.1.1 and jailbroken? Is it worth it? And is there any way i can save all my apps after the restore? So i dont have to download them and reconfigure them all?

  35. edgar, March 17, 2008:

link for windows doesnt work anymore

  36. james, March 18, 2008:

ok I do alll well but when i connect mi itouch to the computer it dosent apper on itnues what do i should do

  37. Vinc, March 18, 2008:

hey thanks Lone Stag! it works to me and it’s cost less time than any JB before, it’s perfect.

  38. iPod Newbie, March 18, 2008:

Hey it worked on my 32 gigs, hmm … and then what next?

  39. iPod Newbie, March 18, 2008:

oops never mind… this is great! kudos for the developer

  40. rAwks, March 18, 2008:

TO EVERYBODY that has problems with the Ziphone when it’s stuck on this part

    BSD root: md0, major 2, minor 0
    BSD root: md0, major 2, minor 0
    BSD root: md0, major 2, minor 0
    BSD root: md0, major 2, minor 0

Just do a hard reset! All you have to do is hold the Wake/Sleep button and the home button at the same time. Keep holding it until it shuts off and keep holding it even when the Apple logo shows up. Keep holding it until the connect to itunes icon shows up on the screen. Then just restore the 1.1.4 firmware again. I went through this problem also and I went through a major panic attack. I thought I broke my iPod to be honest, but I just took a deep breath and just hoped for the best. When I figured out what to do, I did everything Lone Stag mentioned and now my iPod is PERFECT! So…just relax and don’t get into a panic. You’ll have a jailbroken 1.1.4 in no time.

  41. The Lone Stag, March 18, 2008:

    To harry:

You get the wiggly feature. Pretty cool, plus apps will be updated to work for 1.1.4. I would do a restore to 1.1.4 even though it will delete your apps, it will be easy to get them back.

  42. The Lone Stag, March 18, 2008:

    To rAwks:

    Good Job

  43. IpodTouch, March 18, 2008:

I read that someone said some applications don’t work.. which are these? Also I have a 32gb touch w/ the Jan update on it. Will this affect me in any way?

  44. rAwks, March 18, 2008:

I’ve downloaded a bunch of apps and they all work. The only one that doesn’t work that I know of is Customize. Customize only works for version 1.1.[1,2,3], but I heard they’ll update eventually…then Customize will work for 1.1.4

  45. Randy Bennett, March 19, 2008:

@ rAwks, i upgraded to 1.1.4 and was baffeled when i could not get customize to work. Low and behold on the sources in the installer there is a patch for 1.1.3 apps to work on 1.1.4. I honestly do not know the name, but it should be in one of the sources (maybe ispazio). Simply install it and then “presto!!” worked great for me and had NO problems since.

  46. IpodTouch, March 19, 2008:

Sweet.. I think I will do this jailbreak.

  47. Chrissel, March 19, 2008:

hey ya, tried 2 jailbreak but touch broke up and now its stuck on this error: BSD root: md0, major 2, minor 0
    BSD root: md0, major 2, minor 0
    BSD root: md0, major 2, minor 0
    BSD root: md0, major 2, minor 0
cant restore, reload, nuttin!!!! the computer doesnt even find my iPod…
somebody have a suggest wht 2 do?
    pls help
    cheers, chris

  48. rAwks, March 19, 2008:

    To Randy Bennett…

I’ll try to find out about that source. Thanks for letting me know about it!

  49. rAwks, March 19, 2008:

    To Chrissel…

Read my comment #40…it’ll help you out to fix your problem! Hope all goes well

  50. zt1180, March 19, 2008:

is it worth jailbreaking the ipod if apple is going to alow us to install apps now.

    zt1180

  51. The Lone Stag, March 19, 2008:

    To zt1180:

You have to wait until June for that and it might cost you some cash. I would do it now. If you need help, email me.

  52. zt1180, March 19, 2008:

ok thanks for the info. I just bought my iPod and I am going to give it a shot.

  53. zt1180, March 19, 2008:

how do you download the .exe. i cut and pasted the url into my browser and i got error ‘404 file not found’. it the link broken?

    zt1180

  54. rAwks, March 19, 2008:

    To Randy Bennett…

Thanks again for letting me know. I found out what the sources are to put Customize on 1.1.4. If any of you want to add Customize on your iPod here’s the steps:

    1. You have to add 2 sources on installer
    - repo.ispazio.net
    - ipodtouched.net/repo.xml
    2. Go to install and Under “Tweaks (1.1.4)”…install 1.1.4 Compatibility Patch
    3. Then go back to install and under “iPod Touched”…install Modded Customize
    4. Once you download that, go to uninstall and uninstall the “1.1.4 Compatibility Patch”

Then you should be able to use Customize on your jailbroken 1.1.4

If you have any questions, just let me know!

  55. rAwks, March 19, 2008:

    To zt1180…

I’ve been hearing that the links that were posted don’t work. I don’t know where to get the file from anywhere else, but maybe ipodtouchmaster.com might have something. I can’t really research things right now cause I’m at work and things are blocked. Hope you find the file somewhere!

  56. harry, March 19, 2008:

Another question which may seem silly. But im worried about losing my applications and their configurations when i update. Would it be possible to use WinSCP to copy the applications off my Touch, onto the computer, and afterwards simply paste them back on? Or is that stupid?
And also, i take it that if i just click “Update” in iTunes, then the 1.1.4 firmware wont brick my Touch?
Sorry for being noobish, thanks, Harry

  57. rAwks, March 19, 2008:

    To Harry…

I’m not familiar with your method using the WinSCP. Maybe someone else might know if that’s a good way or not. I’m writing to you in response of your next question. I was working on my brother’s iPod and he had a lot of apps on his iPod. I upgraded to 1.1.4 and used the Ziphone hack. When I went into Installer all his apps were in his Update tab. So…I just updated all and it installed all of it. I’m not sure if this situation happens to everybody or if I was just lucky. Hope for the best!

  58. IpodTouch, March 19, 2008:

Before I start, is it needed to restore my touch before I do the jail break?

  59. rAwks, March 20, 2008:

    To IpodTouch…

Make sure you’re on firmware 1.1.4 before you jailbreak using Ziphone

  60. rAwks, March 21, 2008:

    Lone Stag…

I just realized on my iPod that my Notes don’t save. When I type in a note for myself and hit Done…when I go back it says I have no notes. What should I do?!?

  61. rAwks, March 21, 2008:

Sorry…I figured it out! I had to change permissions on notes to 777

  62. jed_bello, March 21, 2008:

Ok, read all the posts.. and im so tempted on doing this jailbreak… need some more assurance from you guys.. heheh got a 16 gig ipodtouch with 1.1.3 firmware.. i synchronized music and photos using my sisters mac, and now im using windows,, will this still erase the files? i mean if I use windows to jailbreak it.. and oh one more thing,, need a link where to dl the ziphone thingy, thanks…man this site is great, like modmymoto for motorola users.. bwahaha…

  63. rAwks, March 21, 2008:

    To jed_bello…

The Ziphone hack is the best one out there…it takes less than a minute if everything goes smoothly. When I hacked my iPod, it went well…then when I hacked my brother’s iPod…there were some mishaps like the recurring BSD root. To use the Ziphone hack you would have to upgrade your firmware to 1.1.4 then use the Ziphone hack. I don’t think it would be a problem about your music and photos erasing…I’m pretty sure it stays on. I’m not sure where to get the links from because the links that were mentioned don’t work. I’m pretty sure you can find it somewhere on google. Just letting you know…jailbreaking your iPod/iPhone is very helpful and awesome, but there are times when things don’t go as planned. So…if things go wrong, you might have to restore…which means things WILL get erased. I have restored my iPod a handful of times…it’s a pain. But when you get your iPod the way you want…it’s worth the trouble. I hope everything works out for you!

  64. Rhett, March 21, 2008:

I was less happy with ZiPhone. Some iPhone apps (e.g. Mail) did not work on my 16Gig touch after jailbreaking with ZiPhone. Also there was trouble with the automatically installed icon to Zibri’s blog - it interfered with synchronizing bookmarks. I’ve heard there is a problem if the icon is removed but never investigated. Zibri has gotten into some trouble with other iPhone hackers of high repute who dispute his ownership of the code he distributes. If you are running OS X then i highly recommend iJailbreak (http://ijailbreak.com/) instead. It is more up-to-date and worked really well for me.

  65. Blue, March 21, 2008:

I have tried running Ziphone three times now and each time I have gotten the
    BSD root: md0, major 2, minor 0
    BSD root: md0, major 2, minor 0
    BSD root: md0, major 2, minor 0
problem. Each time I hard reset, restore and try again. Am I doing something wrong?

  66. Blue, March 21, 2008:

Okay, I’m embarassed to say I figured out the problem… I was trying to “unlock” my ipod… clearly I can only jailbreak the ipod, not unlock it. So nevermind…

  67. jed_bello, March 22, 2008:

Just thinking out loud,, it would be very helpful if you read all the posts… in here and also in the post for the manual jailbreak wherein you need to downgrade,, there are some problems that are similar and it seems that all of them have their solutions,, by the way thanks rawks,. im still not sure if im going to jailbreak my touch,, have to think hard.. lol.. im hearing all this probs with the ziphone wherein some apps dont work, maybe it would be wiser if i wait for the apps to be compatible for the jailbroken 1.1.4, as you said ziphone is easier than the 1.1.3 right? but if you were to choose.. which one would you use?

  68. rAwks, March 22, 2008:

    To jed_bello…

I used both the 1.1.3 hack and the Ziphone one. With the 1.1.3 hack…it took a while (depends on Wifi connection) to install. Once I installed it everything worked fine because all the apps work for 1.1.3. The only bad thing about this hack is that ANYTHING you downloaded from iTunes WILL NOT work on your iPod. Since you started with a firmware 1.1.1 and jumping to 1.1.3 with the hack…something happens with the DRM. So…that was the downfall of using the 1.1.3 hack.

Ziphone took less than a minute to hack. As I said in another comment, it worked PERFECT on my iPod, but the hack was weird when I used my brother’s iPod. I used another hack for my brother’s iPod (I’ll explain in a bit). When I did the Ziphone hack on my iPod it didn’t come with the January Software update with the wiggles…but you can add a source to get those EASILY. My only problems I faced with Ziphone was I didn’t have Customize and my Notes weren’t saving. I explained how to add Customize to 1.1.4 on a previous comment, so I won’t elaborate. It all involves adding sources and installing a few apps. For the Notes, I just had to SSH into my iPod and change the permissions. Those are my only problems with the Ziphone.

When I used Ziphone on my brother’s iPod, I was faced with that terrible BSD root error. I was also faced with that Spamming AT error also. I used another jailbreak using a jailbreak I found somehere. To be honest, I don’t remember where I found it…but it worked. In the folder there was a run.bat…and I just used that. To be honest, it kind of looked like a Ziphone hack. I’m trying to think of the name of the hack…once it comes into mind…I’ll post it up.

Any jailbreak you use, you’ll be faced with lots of PROS and CONS. Hacking your iPod/iPhone, you will be faced to restore a couple of times and deal with a lot of complications. So…if you think hacking will be an easy job…think again.

Sorry this was freakin long and I hope it makes sense (I’m going through a headache right now)…so if you need further instructions on anything…I’m happy to help. Hope for the best!

  69. Stolniik, March 22, 2008:

Hey man, i tried your previous method, downloading 1.1.1 and so on. When it came to the DOS prompt (ijailbreak), i let it run through, and it shut down my ipod touch. I turned back on and when to continue with the steps and it’s saying I need a jailbreak version of 1.1.3 to install this file.

I might try this method, atm i am re running the (ijailbreak) one more time, though it has taken over two hours, and for the past 30 mins been on the same screen. If this doesn’t work, how do i get rid of the Installer and the Ijailbreak icons on my home screen?

  70. IpodTouch, March 23, 2008:

Does anyone’s time not work correctly? Whenever I go into Settings > Date & Time > Time Zone and set it to Ottawa, Ontario; it doesn’t save the setting. I turn my ipod off, and it puts the time at something random. (eg 1:34 AM when it actually isn’t). Then I will turn my ipod off again, and turn it back on to discover it is 2:35 AM. Why would this be happening?

  71. rAwks, March 24, 2008:

    To Stolniik…

I recommend trying Ziphone cause you’re saying that it’s taking you 2 hours using iJailbreak. That’s a pretty long time! Well, all you have to do to get rid of installer or any apps you installed is just to restore to factory settings. Just plug your iPod/iPhone into your comp…on iTunes just hit restore. Then you’re done! You’ll be back to factory settings with NOTHING on it. So…you would have to put all your music, videos, pictures, etc. back on it!

  72. rAwks, March 24, 2008:

    To IpodTouch…

To be honest, I have no clue why you’re time isn’t working. I went on google to look for the solution and I found some stuff. Seems like people are having problems with this. I’m not sure if these work, but I’ll just put it out there for you.

    1. Connect your iPod/iPhone to your comp with iTunes open. Then close iTunes. With your iPod/iPhone still connected, open up iTunes. Then your time should set.

    Another possible solution

    2. Click on Settings on iPod/iPhone. Click on General and then Date and Time. Under Calendar it says Time Zone Support, switch it to off. Then set your time zone (under date and time). Then set your correct time and date.

These are solutions people posted and said it worked. So…hopefully it works for you. If not, sorry…I did my best!

  73. Dillon, March 25, 2008:

im doing all of the things rawks has been saying but it wont get the screen up where it says to conect to itunes how many times does it need to reset?

  74. rAwks, March 25, 2008:

    To Dillon…

Please tell me what your situation is! Are you stuck on the BSD root error? Spamming? I don’t know what’s going on…so I can’t really help you at this point. Just let me know!

  75. Dillon, March 25, 2008:

    hey rAwks…

well it goes through all of this crap and then it keeps repeating
BDS root mdO, major 2, minor 0
    and it keeps saying that
    HELP PLEASE

  76. rAwks, March 25, 2008:

    To Dillon…

So…this is what I did when I went through this situation. When it’s stuck on the BSD root error, hold the home and sleep/wake button down until it shuts off. Keep holding it until the Apple logo shows up and keep holding it. Let go when the connect to iTunes screen pops up. Then from there you can restore to 1.1.4 and do the Ziphone hack. Hope all goes well.

  77. Dillon, March 25, 2008:

yeah but heres the thing how long do i have to reset it fo and what do i do if the conect to itunes sreen dqes not come up??

    thanks

  78. rAwks, March 25, 2008:

When I did the reset, I just held the two buttons until it shut off and until the Apple Logo popped up. This whole process shouldn’t even take 30 seconds. Just make sure to hold the 2 buttons tight and the connect to iTunes should pop up. I forgot what I did, but try having your iPod/iPhone plugged in via USB while doing the reset. If you’re doing this while it’s plugged in, then do vice versa and do the reset while it’s NOT plugged in. Hope for the best!

  79. Dillon, March 25, 2008:

WOW THANK YOU SOOOO MUCH rAwks I GOT IT SO NOW HOW DO I JAILBREAK IT SAFELY?

  80. rAwks, March 25, 2008:

    To Dillon…

Restore it on iTunes to 1.1.4, so you’ll be with just a regular iPod pretty much. Nothing on it! Which hack did you use?!? If you used the Ziphone hack mentioned on this post, I suggest you try it out one more time. If all goes wrong, just restore it back. Then I suggest trying out a different hack. I used this other hack with my brother’s iPod and it worked. Go on ipodtouchmaster.com and he has a whole video on how to do it. It works pretty well! Hope all goes well!

  81. Dillon, March 25, 2008:

    thank you sooo much rAwks:)

  82. Tledbett, March 25, 2008:

Guys, I am anxious to use this method, but am curious. I just got my touch and it connected to apple and updated to 1.1.4 right after I connected it. It is on 1.1.4 now. Do I need to restore again to 1.1.4 or should it be good to go for ZiPhone? Also, will I lose my January apps if I jailbreak?

    Thanks

BTW, This forum is easier to read than other forums I have seen in the past.

  83. rAwks, March 25, 2008:

    To Tledbett…

If you go on Settings<General<About and under version it says 1.1.4…you’re good to go with using Ziphone. I’m pretty sure you WILL LOSE your apps (Maps, Mail, etc.), but you can get all of that EASILY! Hope all goes well.

  84. Rizzo, March 25, 2008:

When i try to install BSD Subsystem it says “Error, Package download failed!”
how do i get around this? Please help me thank you.

  85. Rizzo, March 25, 2008:

Also if i try to install ANYTHING it says the same thing, uhgg some one help please……

  86. rAwks, March 25, 2008:

    To Rizzo…

When you click install on the program you want to install, make sure there’s nothing in your queue. If there is, just click clear queue. Pretty much, when you click install…make sure there’s only 3 buttons that appear. If this doesn’t work, shut off your iPod and turn it back on. This might solve your problem. Hope all goes well.

    I feel like a dumb@$$ cause I don’t know if I spelled “queue” right…you know what I mean though

  87. Rizzo, March 25, 2008:

    To rAwks…

Ok i turned off my iPod and turned it back on but now i got a new error message when trying to install something, it says “Error, Package download failed: can’t find host!” I have wifi and nothing seems to be wrong with my iPod so what could be wrong?

  88. rAwks, March 25, 2008:

    To Rizzo…

Did you clear the queue on installer?

  89. Rizzo, March 25, 2008:

Wait and now its back to the original error message I had…..hm this is quite lame.

  90. Rizzo, March 25, 2008:

    To Rawks:

    yes i did, sorry

  91. rAwks, March 25, 2008:

    To Rizzo…

Also, try reinstalling Installer. Go to uninstall and find Installer. Click on it and click on reinstall

  92. Rizzo, March 25, 2008:

    To rAwks:

Just reinstalled it, still no luck though. =[

  93. rAwks, March 25, 2008:

    To Rizzo…

Sorry for all this…try reinstalling installer again…make sure nothing is in the queue again. Turn off your device and turn it back on again. First thing…go straight into installer and install BSD. Hope it works.

  94. Rizzo, March 25, 2008:

    To rAwks:

It seems that i cannot instal BSD Subsystem, but i can install other things, i just installed “tap tap revolution” and i ran it and it worked perfectly. Do i need BSD Subsystem?

  95. rAwks, March 25, 2008:

    To Rizzo…

That’s weird! I was always told BSD is the most important thing. If everything works, then just keep downloading. I’m not sure why this is happening, but oh well. I found answers to why you’re getting that error. An option to fix it is to reset network settings. You can do this by going into settings<general<rest and then click network settings. If that doesn’t work…it said to restore iPod and install Ziphone again…but I know that’s a hassle. Hope for the best!

  96. Rizzo, March 25, 2008:

    To rAwks:

Actually scratch my last comment, it worked the FIRST time but now it just freezes and crashes out. So i guess I’m just gonna start from stratch. Thanks man I’ll know to ask you if I need anything else, thanks again

    Guys…

What i will click to activate the jailbreak?

    - Do it all?
    - Dont unlock?
    - Jailbreak

Im using a Ipod TOuch 16gb..

  98. rAwks, March 26, 2008:

    To Mr. Quik…

I’m not at home, so I can’t check my Ziphone app…I thought on the buttons it says like “iPhone” or “iPod Touch.” I think it’s the button that only says jailbreak, since iPod’s don’t need to be unlocked or activated. Hope all goes well!

  99. Mike, March 26, 2008:

    Hello,
    I dont know why,
But now when i want to install something from the installer, i always get:
    Main script execution failed!
How i can get it back to work?
    Thnx!

  100. rAwks, March 26, 2008:

    To Mike…

Try turning your iPod on and off. If that doesn’t work, make sure you have nothing in your queue on installer. That’s usually a problem. Hope all goes well!

  101. mgmm1, March 26, 2008:

    Hi,

I recently purchased a 32gb iPod Touch. Sweet machine but lacks playing native games and/or apps similar to a PDA. I was actually looking for something to replace my Palm TX since the web browser, Blazer, sucks. Safari mobile is so much better. Yes I know its not a PDA and mainly an MP3 player, but one could dream especially with the new SDK tool.

Anyway, using Ziphone with the already installed 1.1.4 firmware worked perfectly. Other than some apps not updated yet for the latest firmware, I was happy I was able to jailbreak my Touch.

What I haven’t been able to figure out, in reading many post from various Boards, is how to download directly to the iPod without the installer. I keep reading about coppying to a root directory and changing “this to that” but haven’t got a friggin’ clue as to what the posters are referring to.

From what I have read, the iPhone and Touch cannot act like a flash drive like the 3G Nano and other models. So…how/where do you copy/move/drag the unzipped files to the iPod? Is there a turorial out there in Cyber IPodland that can detail the steps to accomplish this task? One of the apps in question is the Safari plug-in. When opening the Installer, under the “Features” tab it states that this plug-in is not installed. I thought this was an app I could install with the Installer but that does not appear to be the case. So I downloaded the plug-in to my pc, extracted the files and then realized I had no way to get the files to the Touch.

Any help or suggestions on downloading directly to my iPod Touch would be appreciated. My apologies for being such a noob.

  102. Mike, March 26, 2008:

Where i can see or there’s something in my queue?
    Thnx for help rAwks!!

  103. Tledbett, March 26, 2008:

I have seen many many videos demonstrating how to jailbreak. However, most of them show a lot of convoluted stuff that one does not expect. Is there a video that shows the best way using ZiPhone 2.6 and the procedure of what to do after the initial jailbreaking such as BSD/customize/SSH/Iphysics/? What I keep reading is that it is simple and takes a minute or two. Then I see these videos and folks are going into other areas such as mentioned above and it gets complicated.

    Thanks guys.

  104. rAwks, March 26, 2008:

    To Mike…

To see if you have anything in your queue, click on something you want to install on installer. When you click on it, there should be ONLY 3 BUTTONS THAT APPEAR. If there are more, it means you have things in your queue. One of the buttons will say “Clear Queue”…so just click on it and it should clear your queue. Hope all goes well!

  105. rAwks, March 26, 2008:

    To Tledbett…

Ziphone jailbreak takes less than a minute to install. It takes longer if you run into any errors or problems. Customize doesn’t work on 1.1.4, unless if you go around it and get a modded one. That takes some time! If you need to SSH into it, that takes some time. So…if you want to jailbreak into your iPod, it takes a minute…if you want to add more stuff like Customize…might take some time. Hope all is well!

  106. mgmm1, March 26, 2008:

    @Tledbett,

  116. rAwks, March 27, 2008:

Did you use the Ziphone hack?!? Also, are your music and videos purchased or did it come from iTunes? I used a hack different from the Ziphone and NONE of my music and videos that came from iTunes worked. Hope all goes well!

  117. rAwks, March 27, 2008:

    To Tledbett…

Every application I got works well with 1.1.4. The only one where I had to find a modded app was Customize. Well, also OBVIOUSLY the ones that are marked for a different version OBVIOUSLY doesn’t work for 1.1.4 (ex. Applications for 1.1.2). If you need furthur info, I’ll try to help.

  118. rAwks, March 27, 2008:

    To Tledbett…

I read that if you reset your settings on your iPod it should work. Also, people also mentioned that their BSD it the cause of this and they installed something else in replace of it. I’ll put up the link for you to check out and see what you want to do. http://www.ipodtouchfans.com/forums/showthread.php?t=51484. Hope all goes well!

OOOPS…That TO TLEDBETT ON COMMENT 118…WAS MEANT FOR MR. QUIK!!!

  120. rAwks, March 27, 2008:

    To Hamokid…

I’m not sure why you’re iPod isn’t connecting to iTunes. I tried looking for the answer, but no luck. The only thing I can think of is to reset your iPod. Just hold the home and sleep/wake button down until it shuts off. Keep holding it until it the apple shows up and let go when you get the connect to iTunes screen. I don’t know if this solution will help at all, so just be careful. I’m just putting in a solution I think might work. Hopefully when you reset it’ll connect via USB. Hope all goes well!

  121. rAwks, March 27, 2008:

    To jed_bello…

I’m glad everything went okay with you, except for the youtube situation. Well, to install apps…you would just go onto installer and install the apps you want. Easy as that! You can add sources to get more apps onto your installer. Well, for the youtube situation, it just says to uninstall it and reboot. Hope all goes well!

  122. rAwks, March 27, 2008:

    To Mr. Quik…

I just tried Ipodtouchmaster’s technique three times and each time when the Ipod is supposed to restart I get this BSD error with something about major and minor. Am I missing something? BTW, my Ipod Touch has 1.1.4 w/ the January Updates.

    Please help.

  124. Tledbett, March 27, 2008:

I just tried the ZiPhone 2.6 method twice and it locks up as I enter in Ipodtouchmasters source. The first thing I installed after the JB was BSD Subsystem. I might add that after I run the jailbreak my Ipod Touch runs slow.

    Guys…

    I have a problem again…

Why is it when i install/download an apllication, when it is almost done, my ipod retruns to the home menu, and the application is not installed..
And sometimes a message appear “cannot update, free at least 512 kb”, even though i have a free space of 8 gig..

    What will i do?

    Thanks guys…

  126. pedrinho, March 28, 2008:

i am not famliar with the BSD Subsystem,, where do i downloaded in my ipod touch or in my computer?? and what is the link in where i have to downloaded and is very important to do it or is just an extra for the jailbreak??

thanks and i wait for answers

  127. rAwks, March 28, 2008:

    To Tledbett…

I’m assuming that you used the Ziphone hack and are getting complications with adding sources. I know you said it locks up when you try to put in ipodtouchmasters source in…have you tried out any other sources? I’m just making sure…does your keyboard just lag and gets stuck?!? This happened to me when I used the Ziphone hack, so I used the one on iPodtouchmasters. Since you tried that and are having problems…I suggest using another method. Try using the iJailbreak one. Haven’t tried it, but heard it works. http://ijailbreak.com/
    Hope all goes well!

  128. rAwks, March 28, 2008:

    To Mr. Quik…

Did you install Bosstools? Make sure to install that to free up space. The space it’s talking about is not how much room you have on your iPod (Music, Videos, etc.), but the space you have for applications and stuff. So…make sure to get Bosstools. When you get it go into it, click on “Free Disk Space.” Then click on “Relocate Fonts.” This should add a lot more space on your iPod. Hope all goes well!

  129. rAwks, March 28, 2008:

    To Pedrinho…

When you install a jailbreak on your iPod, you will get an icon ON YOUR iPOD that says “Installer.” In installer, you will have to find BSD Subsystem (Which can be located in “System” folder or in “All Packages” folder). When you click on BSD Subsytem, on the top right you will have to click on “Install.” BSD Subsystem is something you will need for the apps. Then you can install and apps you find in Installer. If you need more, go to sources and get more sources or you can google for more sources. Hope all goes well!

  130. jed_bello, March 28, 2008:

    http://lonman06.com/2008/03/12/ipod-touch-new-way-of-jailbreaking-114-for-windows-users/

I’m leaving for work, so I don’t have time to really scope it out. The video that’s on it…the hack looks similar to ipodtouchmaster’s…not sure if it’s the same or not. The description of how to do it sounds the same. Might as well try it out and see if it works. Hope all goes well!

  133. Mr. Quik, March 28, 2008:

    Thanks for evrything rawks…

    But i still have a problem…

Do you know how to use the FTP? I want to put GBA ROMS on my IPOD.. Im following the steps on the youtube but still does’nt work…

Do you know to do? Thanks in advance…

  134. rAwks, March 28, 2008:

    To Mr. Quik…

You have to SSH into your iPod and put the GBA ROMS into a folder. Can you please explain more in detail what the exact problem is? Are you having trouble with connecting to your iPod?!? Does it seem like you’re putting it in, but it won’t show up in the emulator?!? Just let me know, so I can help you out more.

  135. rAwks, March 28, 2008:

    To Tledbett…

Lots of people are having problems with the keyboard freezing. I told you to try out a different hack, but you can try this solution out. Someone said the way they fixed the problem was they went onto contacts. They added a contact and just typed in gibberish for maybe 10 seconds. Then they canceled the contact and just restarted the iPod. Then the person said they were able to add sources after that in installer. Hope it works out!

  136. tledbett, March 28, 2008:

Am I correct in assuming that the source
http://ipodtouchmaster.com/files/repo.xml is still the correct one to use for the Ipone apps and such?

Now I need to look at some of these apps and see which ones will be helpful to me. thanks guys.

  141. rAwks, March 28, 2008:

    To Tledbett…

I actually do know a source to get ROMS for the SNES. It’ll add about 23 games into your emulator. Add this source:

    http://S.apfelphone.net

I haven’t tried all the games, but I tried most of them and they all work well. I didn’t play them with headphones, but I heard that the SNES ROMs are having trouble with sound. Hope all goes well!
