ZiPhone Works

Author : The Lone Stag

Update:

There are currently new instructions on how to jailbreak your iPod Touch 1.14. If you would like to jailbreak your iPod Touch please use the new instructions.

Ziphone has updated it’s jailbreaking method to work with any version of iPod Touch. It jailbreaks it automatically and takes about a minute. You must be on firmware 1.1.4 in order for this to work. If you have any music on it, it will still be on it after the jailbreak, and Purchased music actually works on it. It seems like my jailbreaking post is not useful anymore, but who cares now. I tried this method and it worked perfectly. I highly recommend doing it since it is easy, fast, and actually works.

Download ZiPhone at the website: http://download.ziphone.org/

If this doesn’t work, then do a manual restore (hold power and home until it turns off, keep holding until it says connect to iTunes) and restore to version 1.1.4 and try again.

Make sure the first thing you install is BSD Subsystem, so you will be able to run your apps.

I’m just wondering if this works with a 16gb ipod touch because ive heard that the ziphone method doesnt work with 16gb’s but does the new one work or not??
    Thanks alot

  2. The Lone Stag, March 14, 2008:

Yes it does. It works with any size (first sentence).

  3. rAwks, March 15, 2008:

I didn’t read carefully that I had to be on firmware 1.1.4 when I used Ziphone, until I started the jailbreak. I thought something might happen, so I said to kill Ziphone. Now, my iPod is stuck doing a BSD root stack. WHAT SHOULD I DO?!? I tried restarting it, but it would shut down and then when I turn it on…it would still do the BSD root stack still. Please help ASAP!

  4. rAwks, March 15, 2008:

    I fixed it…thanks!

  5. Drew, March 15, 2008:

    Lone Stag,

Thanks for the link! Will this app give us the January Software Update like your method did?

  6. rAwks, March 15, 2008:

Drew…I’m not Lone Stag, but it DOES NOT include the January Software Update. You can add on your source “ipodtouchmaster.com/files/repo.xml” This will add the January Software Update.

Long Stag, this was a very VERY simple jailbreak, but the only problem is that some applications don’t work with 1.1.4. I was SO happy to jailbreak my iPod so quickly, but now I’m bummed out because applications I use on a daily basis…don’t work!

  7. The Lone Stag, March 15, 2008:

    To rAwks:

I agree, but because of this easy method, people will be updating their apps soon. Good spot for the repo, I use it too. Someday I might create my own repo with all these good apps and more, if I get enough requests in my request post.

  8. Tim, March 15, 2008:

From everything i’ve read and the videos i’ve watched, this WILL work with 1.1.3 right?

  9. The Lone Stag, March 15, 2008:

    To Tim:

Actually, no. It must be firmware 1.1.4.

  10. rAwks, March 15, 2008:

I used ipodtouchmasters repo to get the January Software update, but the mail application doesn’t work. When I click on it, it just crashes. Is there another source out there that will work to get these features?!?

  11. Tomm Havoc, March 15, 2008:

My 8gb ipod touch worked with 1.1.3

  12. Sandeep, March 15, 2008:

    hi,

I have a 16GB 1.1.4 version. Badly want to jailbreak it and insall some apps like games and mail so that when im on the move i’ll be able to play around with my ipod.

i have downloadsd the ziphone. Can anyone tell me how much time does it take to do the jailbreak and will my music, videos and photos still be present after the jailbreak?

Can i restore the ipod to older versions using itunes if something goes wrong while jailbreaking?

  13. Hisun, March 15, 2008:

I jailbroke my 16G ipod touch, everything works fine until I tried to enter source in the Installer. After typing the a few characters, the Installer hung and no way out. I have to press the power and home button.

  14. Tomm Havoc, March 15, 2008:

    To Hisun,

That happened to me the first time I jail broke it with ziphone.
I reupgraded, downgraded, again. and it worked the second time

  15. Sandeep, March 15, 2008:

    hi all,

i have managed to jailbreak without any problems !!

thanks for all the posts here it was so simple.. esp the software..

  16. Caleb, March 15, 2008:

    BSD root: md0, major 2, minor 0

it says this over and over again and im stuck cause it wont restart and go back to main menu

    can you help?

  17. The Lone Stag, March 15, 2008:

    To rAwks:

Open installer and install the SYNCFIX (in iClarified). Restart your iPod and connect it to iTunes.

  18. The Lone Stag, March 15, 2008:

    To Hisun:

Try reinstalling installer. Do this by opening installer and in the featured tab, click the installer symbol and then reinstall.

  19. The Lone Stag, March 15, 2008:

    To Caleb:

Hold power and home until it turns off, then keep holding until it says connect to itunes. Then restore to firmware 1.1.4 and try again.

  34. harry, March 17, 2008:

Hey, whats the advantages of upgrading to firmware 1.1.4 if im on 1.1.1 and jailbroken? Is it worth it? And is there any way i can save all my apps after the restore? So i dont have to download them and reconfigure them all?

  35. edgar, March 17, 2008:

link for windows doesnt work anymore

  36. james, March 18, 2008:

  37. Vinc, March 18, 2008:

hey thanks Lone Stag! it works to me and it’s cost less time than any JB before, it’s perfect.

  38. iPod Newbie, March 18, 2008:

Hey it worked on my 32 gigs, hmm … and then what next?

  39. iPod Newbie, March 18, 2008:

oops never mind… this is great! kudos for the developer

  40. rAwks, March 18, 2008:

TO EVERYBODY that has problems with the Ziphone when it’s stuck on this part

    BSD root: md0, major 2, minor 0
    BSD root: md0, major 2, minor 0
    BSD root: md0, major 2, minor 0
    BSD root: md0, major 2, minor 0

Just do a hard reset! All you have to do is hold the Wake/Sleep button and the home button at the same time. Keep holding it until it shuts off and keep holding it even when the Apple logo shows up. Keep holding it until the connect to itunes icon shows up on the screen. Then just restore the 1.1.4 firmware again. I went through this problem also and I went through a major panic attack. I thought I broke my iPod to be honest, but I just took a deep breath and just hoped for the best. When I figured out what to do, I did everything Lone Stag mentioned and now my iPod is PERFECT! So…just relax and don’t get into a panic. You’ll have a jailbroken 1.1.4 in no time.

  41. The Lone Stag, March 18, 2008:

    To harry:

You get the wiggly feature. Pretty cool, plus apps will be updated to work for 1.1.4. I would do a restore to 1.1.4 even though it will delete your apps, it will be easy to get them back.

  42. The Lone Stag, March 18, 2008:

    To rAwks:

    Good Job

  43. IpodTouch, March 18, 2008:

I read that someone said some applications don’t work.. which are these? Also I have a 32gb touch w/ the Jan update on it. Will this affect me in any way?

  44. rAwks, March 18, 2008:

I’ve downloaded a bunch of apps and they all work. The only one that doesn’t work that I know of is Customize. Customize only works for version 1.1.[1,2,3], but I heard they’ll update eventually…then Customize will work for 1.1.4

  45. Randy Bennett, March 19, 2008:

@ rAwks, i upgraded to 1.1.4 and was baffeled when i could not get customize to work. Low and behold on the sources in the installer there is a patch for 1.1.3 apps to work on 1.1.4. I honestly do not know the name, but it should be in one of the sources (maybe ispazio). Simply install it and then “presto!!” worked great for me and had NO problems since.

  46. IpodTouch, March 19, 2008:

Sweet.. I think I will do this jailbreak.

  47. Chrissel, March 19, 2008:

hey ya, tried 2 jailbreak but touch broke up and now its stuck on this error: BSD root: md0, major 2, minor 0
    BSD root: md0, major 2, minor 0
    BSD root: md0, major 2, minor 0
    BSD root: md0, major 2, minor 0
cant restore, reload, nuttin!!!! the computer doesnt even find my iPod…
somebody have a suggest wht 2 do?
    pls help
    cheers, chris

  48. rAwks, March 19, 2008:

    To Randy Bennett…

I’ll try to find out about that source. Thanks for letting me know about it!

  49. rAwks, March 19, 2008:

    To Chrissel…

Read my comment #40…it’ll help you out to fix your problem! Hope all goes well

  50. zt1180, March 19, 2008:

is it worth jailbreaking the ipod if apple is going to alow us to install apps now.

    zt1180

  51. The Lone Stag, March 19, 2008:

    To zt1180:

You have to wait until June for that and it might cost you some cash. I would do it now. If you need help, email me.

  52. zt1180, March 19, 2008:

ok thanks for the info. I just bought my iPod and I am going to give it a shot.

  53. zt1180, March 19, 2008:

how do you download the .exe. i cut and pasted the url into my browser and i got error ‘404 file not found’. it the link broken?

    zt1180

  54. rAwks, March 19, 2008:

    To Randy Bennett…

Thanks again for letting me know. I found out what the sources are to put Customize on 1.1.4. If any of you want to add Customize on your iPod here’s the steps:

    1. You have to add 2 sources on installer
    – repo.ispazio.net
    – ipodtouched.net/repo.xml
    2. Go to install and Under “Tweaks (1.1.4)”…install 1.1.4 Compatibility Patch
    3. Then go back to install and under “iPod Touched”…install Modded Customize
    4. Once you download that, go to uninstall and uninstall the “1.1.4 Compatibility Patch”

Then you should be able to use Customize on your jailbroken 1.1.4

If you have any questions, just let me know!

  55. rAwks, March 19, 2008:

    To zt1180…

I’ve been hearing that the links that were posted don’t work. I don’t know where to get the file from anywhere else, but maybe ipodtouchmaster.com might have something. I can’t really research things right now cause I’m at work and things are blocked. Hope you find the file somewhere!

  56. harry, March 19, 2008:

Another question which may seem silly. But im worried about losing my applications and their configurations when i update. Would it be possible to use WinSCP to copy the applications off my Touch, onto the computer, and afterwards simply paste them back on? Or is that stupid?
And also, i take it that if i just click “Update” in iTunes, then the 1.1.4 firmware wont brick my Touch?
Sorry for being noobish, thanks, Harry

  57. rAwks, March 19, 2008:

    To Harry…

I’m not familiar with your method using the WinSCP. Maybe someone else might know if that’s a good way or not. I’m writing to you in response of your next question. I was working on my brother’s iPod and he had a lot of apps on his iPod. I upgraded to 1.1.4 and used the Ziphone hack. When I went into Installer all his apps were in his Update tab. So…I just updated all and it installed all of it. I’m not sure if this situation happens to everybody or if I was just lucky. Hope for the best!

  58. IpodTouch, March 19, 2008:

Before I start, is it needed to restore my touch before I do the jail break?

  59. rAwks, March 20, 2008:

    To IpodTouch…

Make sure you’re on firmware 1.1.4 before you jailbreak using Ziphone

  60. rAwks, March 21, 2008:

    Lone Stag…

I just realized on my iPod that my Notes don’t save. When I type in a note for myself and hit Done…when I go back it says I have no notes. What should I do?!?

  61. rAwks, March 21, 2008:

Sorry…I figured it out! I had to change permissions on notes to 777

  62. jed_bello, March 21, 2008:

Ok, read all the posts.. and im so tempted on doing this jailbreak… need some more assurance from you guys.. heheh got a 16 gig ipodtouch with 1.1.3 firmware.. i synchronized music and photos using my sisters mac, and now im using windows,, will this still erase the files? i mean if I use windows to jailbreak it.. and oh one more thing,, need a link where to dl the ziphone thingy, thanks…man this site is great, like modmymoto for motorola users.. bwahaha…

  63. rAwks, March 21, 2008:

    To jed_bello…

The Ziphone hack is the best one out there…it takes less than a minute if everything goes smoothly. When I hacked my iPod, it went well…then when I hacked my brother’s iPod…there were some mishaps like the recurring BSD root. To use the Ziphone hack you would have to upgrade your firmware to 1.1.4 then use the Ziphone hack. I don’t think it would be a problem about your music and photos erasing…I’m pretty sure it stays on. I’m not sure where to get the links from because the links that were mentioned don’t work. I’m pretty sure you can find it somewhere on google. Just letting you know…jailbreaking your iPod/iPhone is very helpful and awesome, but there are times when things don’t go as planned. So…if things go wrong, you might have to restore…which means things WILL get erased. I have restored my iPod a handful of times…it’s a pain. But when you get your iPod the way you want…it’s worth the trouble. I hope everything works out for you!

  64. Rhett, March 21, 2008:

I was less happy with ZiPhone. Some iPhone apps (e.g. Mail) did not work on my 16Gig touch after jailbreaking with ZiPhone. Also there was trouble with the automatically installed icon to Zibri’s blog – it interfered with synchronizing bookmarks. I’ve heard there is a problem if the icon is removed but never investigated. Zibri has gotten into some trouble with other iPhone hackers of high repute who dispute his ownership of the code he distributes. If you are running OS X then i highly recommend iJailbreak (http://ijailbreak.com/) instead. It is more up-to-date and worked really well for me.

  65. Blue, March 21, 2008:

I have tried running Ziphone three times now and each time I have gotten the
    BSD root: md0, major 2, minor 0
    BSD root: md0, major 2, minor 0
    BSD root: md0, major 2, minor 0
problem. Each time I hard reset, restore and try again. Am I doing something wrong?

  66. Blue, March 21, 2008:

Okay, I’m embarassed to say I figured out the problem… I was trying to “unlock” my ipod… clearly I can only jailbreak the ipod, not unlock it. So nevermind…

  67. jed_bello, March 22, 2008:

Just thinking out loud,, it would be very helpful if you read all the posts… in here and also in the post for the manual jailbreak wherein you need to downgrade,, there are some problems that are similar and it seems that all of them have their solutions,, by the way thanks rawks,. im still not sure if im going to jailbreak my touch,, have to think hard.. lol.. im hearing all this probs with the ziphone wherein some apps dont work, maybe it would be wiser if i wait for the apps to be compatible for the jailbroken 1.1.4, as you said ziphone is easier than the 1.1.3 right? but if you were to choose.. which one would you use?

  68. rAwks, March 22, 2008:

    To jed_bello…

I used both the 1.1.3 hack and the Ziphone one. With the 1.1.3 hack…it took a while (depends on Wifi connection) to install. Once I installed it everything worked fine because all the apps work for 1.1.3. The only bad thing about this hack is that ANYTHING you downloaded from iTunes WILL NOT work on your iPod. Since you started with a firmware 1.1.1 and jumping to 1.1.3 with the hack…something happens with the DRM. So…that was the downfall of using the 1.1.3 hack.

Ziphone took less than a minute to hack. As I said in another comment, it worked PERFECT on my iPod, but the hack was weird when I used my brother’s iPod. I used another hack for my brother’s iPod (I’ll explain in a bit). When I did the Ziphone hack on my iPod it didn’t come with the January Software update with the wiggles…but you can add a source to get those EASILY. My only problems I faced with Ziphone was I didn’t have Customize and my Notes weren’t saving. I explained how to add Customize to 1.1.4 on a previous comment, so I won’t elaborate. It all involves adding sources and installing a few apps. For the Notes, I just had to SSH into my iPod and change the permissions. Those are my only problems with the Ziphone.

When I used Ziphone on my brother’s iPod, I was faced with that terrible BSD root error. I was also faced with that Spamming AT error also. I used another jailbreak using a jailbreak I found somehere. To be honest, I don’t remember where I found it…but it worked. In the folder there was a run.bat…and I just used that. To be honest, it kind of looked like a Ziphone hack. I’m trying to think of the name of the hack…once it comes into mind…I’ll post it up.

Any jailbreak you use, you’ll be faced with lots of PROS and CONS. Hacking your iPod/iPhone, you will be faced to restore a couple of times and deal with a lot of complications. So…if you think hacking will be an easy job…think again.

Sorry this was freakin long and I hope it makes sense (I’m going through a headache right now)…so if you need further instructions on anything…I’m happy to help. Hope for the best!

  69. Stolniik, March 22, 2008:

Hey man, i tried your previous method, downloading 1.1.1 and so on. When it came to the DOS prompt (ijailbreak), i let it run through, and it shut down my ipod touch. I turned back on and when to continue with the steps and it’s saying I need a jailbreak version of 1.1.3 to install this file.

I might try this method, atm i am re running the (ijailbreak) one more time, though it has taken over two hours, and for the past 30 mins been on the same screen. If this doesn’t work, how do i get rid of the Installer and the Ijailbreak icons on my home screen?

  70. IpodTouch, March 23, 2008:

Does anyone’s time not work correctly? Whenever I go into Settings > Date & Time > Time Zone and set it to Ottawa, Ontario; it doesn’t save the setting. I turn my ipod off, and it puts the time at something random. (eg 1:34 AM when it actually isn’t). Then I will turn my ipod off again, and turn it back on to discover it is 2:35 AM. Why would this be happening?

  71. rAwks, March 24, 2008:

    To Stolniik…

I recommend trying Ziphone cause you’re saying that it’s taking you 2 hours using iJailbreak. That’s a pretty long time! Well, all you have to do to get rid of installer or any apps you installed is just to restore to factory settings. Just plug your iPod/iPhone into your comp…on iTunes just hit restore. Then you’re done! You’ll be back to factory settings with NOTHING on it. So…you would have to put all your music, videos, pictures, etc. back on it!

  72. rAwks, March 24, 2008:

    To IpodTouch…

To be honest, I have no clue why you’re time isn’t working. I went on google to look for the solution and I found some stuff. Seems like people are having problems with this. I’m not sure if these work, but I’ll just put it out there for you.

    1. Connect your iPod/iPhone to your comp with iTunes open. Then close iTunes. With your iPod/iPhone still connected, open up iTunes. Then your time should set.

    Another possible solution

    2. Click on Settings on iPod/iPhone. Click on General and then Date and Time. Under Calendar it says Time Zone Support, switch it to off. Then set your time zone (under date and time). Then set your correct time and date.

These are solutions people posted and said it worked. So…hopefully it works for you. If not, sorry…I did my best!

  73. Dillon, March 25, 2008:

im doing all of the things rawks has been saying but it wont get the screen up where it says to conect to itunes how many times does it need to reset?

  74. rAwks, March 25, 2008:

    To Dillon…

Please tell me what your situation is! Are you stuck on the BSD root error? Spamming? I don’t know what’s going on…so I can’t really help you at this point. Just let me know!

  75. Dillon, March 25, 2008:

    hey rAwks…

well it goes through all of this crap and then it keeps repeating
BDS root mdO, major 2, minor 0
    and it keeps saying that
    HELP PLEASE

  76. rAwks, March 25, 2008:

    To Dillon…

So…this is what I did when I went through this situation. When it’s stuck on the BSD root error, hold the home and sleep/wake button down until it shuts off. Keep holding it until the Apple logo shows up and keep holding it. Let go when the connect to iTunes screen pops up. Then from there you can restore to 1.1.4 and do the Ziphone hack. Hope all goes well.

  77. Dillon, March 25, 2008:

yeah but heres the thing how long do i have to reset it fo and what do i do if the conect to itunes sreen dqes not come up??

    thanks

  78. rAwks, March 25, 2008:

When I did the reset, I just held the two buttons until it shut off and until the Apple Logo popped up. This whole process shouldn’t even take 30 seconds. Just make sure to hold the 2 buttons tight and the connect to iTunes should pop up. I forgot what I did, but try having your iPod/iPhone plugged in via USB while doing the reset. If you’re doing this while it’s plugged in, then do vice versa and do the reset while it’s NOT plugged in. Hope for the best!

  79. Dillon, March 25, 2008:

WOW THANK YOU SOOOO MUCH rAwks I GOT IT SO NOW HOW DO I JAILBREAK IT SAFELY?

  80. rAwks, March 25, 2008:

    To Dillon…

Restore it on iTunes to 1.1.4, so you’ll be with just a regular iPod pretty much. Nothing on it! Which hack did you use?!? If you used the Ziphone hack mentioned on this post, I suggest you try it out one more time. If all goes wrong, just restore it back. Then I suggest trying out a different hack. I used this other hack with my brother’s iPod and it worked. Go on ipodtouchmaster.com and he has a whole video on how to do it. It works pretty well! Hope all goes well!

  81. Dillon, March 25, 2008:

    thank you sooo much rAwks:)

  82. Tledbett, March 25, 2008:

Guys, I am anxious to use this method, but am curious. I just got my touch and it connected to apple and updated to 1.1.4 right after I connected it. It is on 1.1.4 now. Do I need to restore again to 1.1.4 or should it be good to go for ZiPhone? Also, will I lose my January apps if I jailbreak?

    Thanks

BTW, This forum is easier to read than other forums I have seen in the past.

  83. rAwks, March 25, 2008:

    To Tledbett…

If you go on Settings<General<About and under version it says 1.1.4…you’re good to go with using Ziphone. I’m pretty sure you WILL LOSE your apps (Maps, Mail, etc.), but you can get all of that EASILY! Hope all goes well.

  84. Rizzo, March 25, 2008:

When i try to install BSD Subsystem it says “Error, Package download failed!”
how do i get around this? Please help me thank you.

  85. Rizzo, March 25, 2008:

Also if i try to install ANYTHING it says the same thing, uhgg some one help please……

  86. rAwks, March 25, 2008:

    To Rizzo…

When you click install on the program you want to install, make sure there’s nothing in your queue. If there is, just click clear queue. Pretty much, when you click install…make sure there’s only 3 buttons that appear. If this doesn’t work, shut off your iPod and turn it back on. This might solve your problem. Hope all goes well.

    I feel like a dumb@$$ cause I don’t know if I spelled “queue” right…you know what I mean though

  87. Rizzo, March 25, 2008:

    To rAwks…

Ok i turned off my iPod and turned it back on but now i got a new error message when trying to install something, it says “Error, Package download failed: can’t find host!” I have wifi and nothing seems to be wrong with my iPod so what could be wrong?

  88. rAwks, March 25, 2008:

    To Rizzo…

Did you clear the queue on installer?

  89. Rizzo, March 25, 2008:

Wait and now its back to the original error message I had…..hm this is quite lame.

  90. Rizzo, March 25, 2008:

    To Rawks:

    yes i did, sorry

  91. rAwks, March 25, 2008:

    To Rizzo…

Also, try reinstalling Installer. Go to uninstall and find Installer. Click on it and click on reinstall

  92. Rizzo, March 25, 2008:

    To rAwks:

Just reinstalled it, still no luck though. =[

  93. rAwks, March 25, 2008:

    To Rizzo…

Sorry for all this…try reinstalling installer again…make sure nothing is in the queue again. Turn off your device and turn it back on again. First thing…go straight into installer and install BSD. Hope it works.

  94. Rizzo, March 25, 2008:

    To rAwks:

It seems that i cannot instal BSD Subsystem, but i can install other things, i just installed “tap tap revolution” and i ran it and it worked perfectly. Do i need BSD Subsystem?

  95. rAwks, March 25, 2008:

    To Rizzo…

That’s weird! I was always told BSD is the most important thing. If everything works, then just keep downloading. I’m not sure why this is happening, but oh well. I found answers to why you’re getting that error. An option to fix it is to reset network settings. You can do this by going into settings<general<rest and then click network settings. If that doesn’t work…it said to restore iPod and install Ziphone again…but I know that’s a hassle. Hope for the best!

  96. Rizzo, March 25, 2008:

    To rAwks:

Actually scratch my last comment, it worked the FIRST time but now it just freezes and crashes out. So i guess I’m just gonna start from stratch. Thanks man I’ll know to ask you if I need anything else, thanks again

    Guys…

What i will click to activate the jailbreak?

    - Do it all?
    - Dont unlock?
    - Jailbreak

Im using a Ipod TOuch 16gb..

  98. rAwks, March 26, 2008:

    To Mr. Quik…

I’m not at home, so I can’t check my Ziphone app…I thought on the buttons it says like “iPhone” or “iPod Touch.” I think it’s the button that only says jailbreak, since iPod’s don’t need to be unlocked or activated. Hope all goes well!

  99. Mike, March 26, 2008:

    Hello,
    I dont know why,
But now when i want to install something from the installer, i always get:
    Main script execution failed!
How i can get it back to work?
    Thnx!

  100. rAwks, March 26, 2008:

    To Mike…

Try turning your iPod on and off. If that doesn’t work, make sure you have nothing in your queue on installer. That’s usually a problem. Hope all goes well!

  101. mgmm1, March 26, 2008:

    Hi,

I recently purchased a 32gb iPod Touch. Sweet machine but lacks playing native games and/or apps similar to a PDA. I was actually looking for something to replace my Palm TX since the web browser, Blazer, sucks. Safari mobile is so much better. Yes I know its not a PDA and mainly an MP3 player, but one could dream especially with the new SDK tool.

Anyway, using Ziphone with the already installed 1.1.4 firmware worked perfectly. Other than some apps not updated yet for the latest firmware, I was happy I was able to jailbreak my Touch.

What I haven’t been able to figure out, in reading many post from various Boards, is how to download directly to the iPod without the installer. I keep reading about coppying to a root directory and changing “this to that” but haven’t got a friggin’ clue as to what the posters are referring to.

From what I have read, the iPhone and Touch cannot act like a flash drive like the 3G Nano and other models. So…how/where do you copy/move/drag the unzipped files to the iPod? Is there a turorial out there in Cyber IPodland that can detail the steps to accomplish this task? One of the apps in question is the Safari plug-in. When opening the Installer, under the “Features” tab it states that this plug-in is not installed. I thought this was an app I could install with the Installer but that does not appear to be the case. So I downloaded the plug-in to my pc, extracted the files and then realized I had no way to get the files to the Touch.

Any help or suggestions on downloading directly to my iPod Touch would be appreciated. My apologies for being such a noob.

  102. Mike, March 26, 2008:

Where i can see or there’s something in my queue?
    Thnx for help rAwks!!

  103. Tledbett, March 26, 2008:

I have seen many many videos demonstrating how to jailbreak. However, most of them show a lot of convoluted stuff that one does not expect. Is there a video that shows the best way using ZiPhone 2.6 and the procedure of what to do after the initial jailbreaking such as BSD/customize/SSH/Iphysics/? What I keep reading is that it is simple and takes a minute or two. Then I see these videos and folks are going into other areas such as mentioned above and it gets complicated.

    Thanks guys.

  104. rAwks, March 26, 2008:

    To Mike…

To see if you have anything in your queue, click on something you want to install on installer. When you click on it, there should be ONLY 3 BUTTONS THAT APPEAR. If there are more, it means you have things in your queue. One of the buttons will say “Clear Queue”…so just click on it and it should clear your queue. Hope all goes well!

  105. rAwks, March 26, 2008:

    To Tledbett…

Ziphone jailbreak takes less than a minute to install. It takes longer if you run into any errors or problems. Customize doesn’t work on 1.1.4, unless if you go around it and get a modded one. That takes some time! If you need to SSH into it, that takes some time. So…if you want to jailbreak into your iPod, it takes a minute…if you want to add more stuff like Customize…might take some time. Hope all is well!

  106. mgmm1, March 26, 2008:

    @Tledbett,

Did you use the Ziphone hack?!? Also, are your music and videos purchased or did it come from iTunes? I used a hack different from the Ziphone and NONE of my music and videos that came from iTunes worked. Hope all goes well!

  117. rAwks, March 27, 2008:

    To Tledbett…

Every application I got works well with 1.1.4. The only one where I had to find a modded app was Customize. Well, also OBVIOUSLY the ones that are marked for a different version OBVIOUSLY doesn’t work for 1.1.4 (ex. Applications for 1.1.2). If you need furthur info, I’ll try to help.

  118. rAwks, March 27, 2008:

    To Tledbett…

I read that if you reset your settings on your iPod it should work. Also, people also mentioned that their BSD it the cause of this and they installed something else in replace of it. I’ll put up the link for you to check out and see what you want to do. http://www.ipodtouchfans.com/forums/showthread.php?t=51484. Hope all goes well!

  120. rAwks, March 27, 2008:

    To Hamokid…

I’m not sure why you’re iPod isn’t connecting to iTunes. I tried looking for the answer, but no luck. The only thing I can think of is to reset your iPod. Just hold the home and sleep/wake button down until it shuts off. Keep holding it until it the apple shows up and let go when you get the connect to iTunes screen. I don’t know if this solution will help at all, so just be careful. I’m just putting in a solution I think might work. Hopefully when you reset it’ll connect via USB. Hope all goes well!

  121. rAwks, March 27, 2008:

    To jed_bello…

I’m glad everything went okay with you, except for the youtube situation. Well, to install apps…you would just go onto installer and install the apps you want. Easy as that! You can add sources to get more apps onto your installer. Well, for the youtube situation, it just says to uninstall it and reboot. Hope all goes well!

  122. rAwks, March 27, 2008:

I just tried Ipodtouchmaster’s technique three times and each time when the Ipod is supposed to restart I get this BSD error with something about major and minor. Am I missing something? BTW, my Ipod Touch has 1.1.4 w/ the January Updates.

    Please help.

  124. Tledbett, March 27, 2008:

I just tried the ZiPhone 2.6 method twice and it locks up as I enter in Ipodtouchmasters source. The first thing I installed after the JB was BSD Subsystem. I might add that after I run the jailbreak my Ipod Touch runs slow.

    Guys…

    I have a problem again…

Why is it when i install/download an apllication, when it is almost done, my ipod retruns to the home menu, and the application is not installed..
And sometimes a message appear “cannot update, free at least 512 kb”, even though i have a free space of 8 gig..

    What will i do?

    Thanks guys…

  126. pedrinho, March 28, 2008:

i am not famliar with the BSD Subsystem,, where do i downloaded in my ipod touch or in my computer?? and what is the link in where i have to downloaded and is very important to do it or is just an extra for the jailbreak??

thanks and i wait for answers

  127. rAwks, March 28, 2008:

    To Tledbett…

I’m assuming that you used the Ziphone hack and are getting complications with adding sources. I know you said it locks up when you try to put in ipodtouchmasters source in…have you tried out any other sources? I’m just making sure…does your keyboard just lag and gets stuck?!? This happened to me when I used the Ziphone hack, so I used the one on iPodtouchmasters. Since you tried that and are having problems…I suggest using another method. Try using the iJailbreak one. Haven’t tried it, but heard it works. http://ijailbreak.com/
    Hope all goes well!

  128. rAwks, March 28, 2008:

    To Mr. Quik…

Did you install Bosstools? Make sure to install that to free up space. The space it’s talking about is not how much room you have on your iPod (Music, Videos, etc.), but the space you have for applications and stuff. So…make sure to get Bosstools. When you get it go into it, click on “Free Disk Space.” Then click on “Relocate Fonts.” This should add a lot more space on your iPod. Hope all goes well!

  129. rAwks, March 28, 2008:

    To Pedrinho…

When you install a jailbreak on your iPod, you will get an icon ON YOUR iPOD that says “Installer.” In installer, you will have to find BSD Subsystem (Which can be located in “System” folder or in “All Packages” folder). When you click on BSD Subsytem, on the top right you will have to click on “Install.” BSD Subsystem is something you will need for the apps. Then you can install and apps you find in Installer. If you need more, go to sources and get more sources or you can google for more sources. Hope all goes well!

  130. jed_bello, March 28, 2008:

    http://lonman06.com/2008/03/12/ipod-touch-new-way-of-jailbreaking-114-for-windows-users/

I’m leaving for work, so I don’t have time to really scope it out. The video that’s on it…the hack looks similar to ipodtouchmaster’s…not sure if it’s the same or not. The description of how to do it sounds the same. Might as well try it out and see if it works. Hope all goes well!

  133. Mr. Quik, March 28, 2008:

    Thanks for evrything rawks…

    But i still have a problem…

Do you know how to use the FTP? I want to put GBA ROMS on my IPOD.. Im following the steps on the youtube but still does’nt work…

Do you know to do? Thanks in advance…

  134. rAwks, March 28, 2008:

    To Mr. Quik…

You have to SSH into your iPod and put the GBA ROMS into a folder. Can you please explain more in detail what the exact problem is? Are you having trouble with connecting to your iPod?!? Does it seem like you’re putting it in, but it won’t show up in the emulator?!? Just let me know, so I can help you out more.

  135. rAwks, March 28, 2008:

    To Tledbett…

Lots of people are having problems with the keyboard freezing. I told you to try out a different hack, but you can try this solution out. Someone said the way they fixed the problem was they went onto contacts. They added a contact and just typed in gibberish for maybe 10 seconds. Then they canceled the contact and just restarted the iPod. Then the person said they were able to add sources after that in installer. Hope it works out!

  136. tledbett, March 28, 2008:

Am I correct in assuming that the source
http://ipodtouchmaster.com/files/repo.xml is still the correct one to use for the Ipone apps and such?

Now I need to look at some of these apps and see which ones will be helpful to me. thanks guys.

    Thanks

  141. rAwks, March 28, 2008:

    To Tledbett…

I actually do know a source to get ROMS for the SNES. It’ll add about 23 games into your emulator. Add this source:

    http://S.apfelphone.net

I haven’t tried all the games, but I tried most of them and they all work well. I didn’t play them with headphones, but I heard that the SNES ROMs are having trouble with sound. Hope all goes well!

Hi, and thanks for a good website and a lot of productive comments.

Please consider updating the main article with all the information from the comments. There is a ton of repeated information in the comments, as well as a lot of unanswered questions.

For instance: Will all the default apps work after the device is cracked? Or will Mail/YouTube/Notes have strange errors and malfunctions? And which applications are the most common/popular? Even though I am a programmer, I am having a hard time deciphering and filtering the information presented here.

I like the basic idea of this website, but a little more structure and an updated article would REALLY help a lot of people … and it would probably boost your page views too ;-)

Need help writing it? Mail me – but be prepared for a barrage of questions!

    - Jesper

Okay so I used ziphone and successfully and everything works fine for my touch, except for the fact that I can’t put ROMs into my touch for the emulators because my pod won’t show in my computer even though it did before I jailbroke it and the fact that itunes DOES recognize it. How do I get the ROMs on my computer?
    Thanks!

  175. rAwks, March 30, 2008:

    To jed_bello…

Try out using this source: http://installer.iClarified.com
There’s an app called SyncFix and it should hopefully fix the problem. Hope all goes well!

  176. rAwks, March 30, 2008:

    To Jesper Sommer…

It is true that there are A LOT of repeats on this post. Since I’m a new writer for the site, I’m working on a new post that will clarify EVERYTHING that will help out (BSD root error, Spamming AT, adding Customize, which apps work, which are most popular, etc.) This will hopefully keep things set and less repeats on post. To help clarify your question, when I used Ziphone I had a couple problems with the default icons. My mail wouldn’t work and my notes wouldn’t save. I had to install an app to fix my mail application and I had to fix the permissions on the notes. Some people get a perfect jailbreak with no problems, but sometimes people go through a little obstacle…there are ways to face these obstacles to make your iPod/iPhone into what you want. The ipodtouchhacks team is working on making the site much better, but thanks so much for your advice. We will put into consideration your ideas. Hope all goes well!

  177. jackwhite, March 30, 2008:

what does it mean to jailbreak an itouch? i just got a 16gb

  178. rAwks, March 30, 2008:

    To G_reg…

To add ROMs into your iPod, you have to SSH into it. It doesn’t show up like a flash drive on the desktop or anything. I have a MAC, so I use Cyberduck to get into the iPod. There are also sources you can get..so when you download the app the ROMs go straight into your iPod. I know there are NES and SNES ones out there, but don’t know about the others. Hope all goes well!

  179. rAwks, March 30, 2008:

    To lyam…

I’ve heard that people are having trouble unzipping the files because of Vista. If this is difficult, you can try out other jailbreaks for instance ipodtouchmaster.com has a nice jailbreak. There’s also others like ijailbreak.com or iLiberty. I have a MAC, so I don’t know what the problems are with the Vista thing. Hope all goes well!

  180. rAwks, March 30, 2008:

    To jackwhite…

Jailbreak your iPod/iPhone means that you can modify your device to put applications that don’t normally come with it. You can add games, change the themes, etc. Hope all goes well!

  181. jed_bello, March 30, 2008:

rawks i tried the syncfix still isnt working

  182. jed_bello, March 30, 2008:

what do you mean by is it set up correctly? where will i set it up

  183. rAwks, March 30, 2008:

    To jed_bello…

Try this out…hope this works out. Get this source:

    - repo.ispazio.net

Under Tweaks (1.1.4) install the “1.1.4 Compatibility Patch.” When you get that, install the “1.1.3 Fix Mail.” This is a hunch I got that hopefully works for you. Since you’re saying that your password doesn’t work, this 1.1.3 Fix Mail should solve the problem. When you’re done installing that mail fix, uninstall the 1.1.4 Compatibility Patch. Hope all goes well!

  187. Adam M, March 30, 2008:

I have also done a hard reset and nothing sorts it out…

  188. rAwks, March 30, 2008:

    To Adam M…

Do the hard reset while your iPod is plugged in. Hold the home button and the wake/sleep button until it turns off. Keep holding it still through the apple logo. Then let go when the connect to iTunes screen is on. I’m pretty sure you’re stuck in the BSD root error. Once you get the connect to itunes screen, just restore and do it again. Hope all goes well!

  189. Tledbett, March 30, 2008:

    to James and Adam.

First, after you jailbreak and connected to iTunes you need to have it unlocked and on

  190. Tledbett, March 30, 2008:

    To jed_bello…

I found a video that might be helpful
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fnf0rOqhdzs&feature=related
If this doesn’t work…try using the new Ziphone jailbreak or try another jailbreak. Hope all goes well!

  200. rAwks, March 31, 2008:

    To Rachel…

Do a hard reset and restore it. Once you restore it, I would use the new Ziphone jailbreak. Hope all goes well!

  201. jed_bello, March 31, 2008:

Ok this i what i noticed, after jailbreaking a 1.1.4 your youtube will have problems connecting, so what you should do is install the youtubeactivation1.1.4 from tweaks. And i found out that by installing this it affects my mail, i restored it again and installed the programs 1 at a time, 1st the bsd, then restarted tried to check mail and it still works, but after installing the youtubeactivation, then my problem arises again, showing this “Cannot get mail The user name or password for “imap.apple.mail.yahoo.com” is incorrect.”. so what i did is restored again jailbroke and didnt install the youtubeactivation, my mail is now working, but now my prob is i would’nt be able to watch youtube videos, well i do certainly prefer to be able to check mail than to watch videos in youtube because there are other sites that allow me to watch videos, but it would be much better if they both work. any idea rawks? ill try to watch the link you gave me. thanks

  202. rAwks, March 31, 2008:

    To jed_bello…

Try this out if the video doesn’t work for you. Sorry, but you have to restore again. Once you restore your iPod and you connect it to iTunes. MAKE SURE TO SET IT UP AS A NEW DEVICE AND DON’T USE THE BACKUP. Then jailbreak it and I hope…I HOPE…it works out for you! If you don’t understand what I mean, just let me know. Hope all goes well!

  211. Ronald, March 31, 2008:

Hey there. I already read about 70% of the 207 comments, and did not have the patience to read the rest, so I will ask my question.

I would very much like to jailbreak my iPod, but I have some questions before I do it.
    1. I read above that you WILL lose the January apps, but it is easy to get them back. How do I get them back?
    2. Does anyone think they can give me a percent of the time that Ziphone DOES work?
    3. When you get the BSD root error, does resetting it and getting the “connect to iTunes” screen work EVERY time?
    4. Some people were mentioning having a hard time finding apps. Could someone tell me as well a good place to find them?
    5. A friend of mine told me something about being able to get a Super Nintendo emulator on an iPod Touch, so that you can play roms of SNES games such as Super Mario and such. Anyone know anything about this?

  212. rAwks, March 31, 2008:

    To Al,

To do a hard reset, hold down the home button with the wake/sleep button until it shuts off. Keep holding it even when it turns on into the apple logo screen. Let go when you have the connect to itunes screen. Hope all goes well!

  216. rAwks, March 31, 2008:

    To Dom…

I heard Apollo IM developments have stopped, so the best app to use is MobileChat. Hope that works for you! About eBooks, since the Books you install get downloaded into a different folder than usual…you have to SSH and fix it. If you are using older version of Books.app (older than 1.4), the ebooks should be put in the following folder:
    /var/root/Media/EBooks
If this folder does not exist, you should make it yourself or download an ebook from the installer(this folder will be created by installer).

v1.4 Books.app will find ebook from the /var/mobile/Media/EBooks folder for 1.1.3 firmware.

    Hope all goes well!

  217. rAwks, March 31, 2008:

    To Tledbett…

Read my comment #215 about the eBooks

  218. rAwks, March 31, 2008:

    To Ronald…

I know there’s so many comments that it’s hard to find your answer. I’m here to help you out to save you from reading tons of comments. Here goes:

    1. To get your apps back you just have to add a source into installer. When you get that source and install that app, you will get the january apps with the wiggles. I used this source: http://ipodtouchmaster.com/files/repo.xml

    2. I can’t give you a percent of the times Ziphone doesn’t work. All you have to do to is be on firmware 1.1.4 already and jailbreak it. There’s a new Ziphone out, which should probably fix those bugs.

    3. When you do get that error, you just have to do the hard reset and then just restore and do it again. Some people don’t do the hard reset right, so they panic and the BSD root error is still going. To be honest, I’m one of those people that panicked.

    4. Read my new post, which will help you find sources and apps for your iPod

    5. You can get NES, SNES, GBA, PSX, and Genesis emulators for the iPod. The only hard part is getting ROMs. It is true…you can play Super Mario on your iPod. I have about 200 ROMs for my NES, 23 ROMs for SNES, and a couple for GBA. To be honest, I don’t really play it that often…it’s just cool to have.

If you have any more questions, just let me know. Hope all goes well!

  219. Jack!!!, March 31, 2008:

hello does this take up memory on my computer…if so how much!

  220. al, March 31, 2008:

    rAwaks
so i have tried that, but then my itunes says there is an error and it cant connect,
    then what do i do?

  221. Dom, March 31, 2008:

hmmm thanks for the info. but i tried to download mobile client and it keeps saying download for package failed… is there another source i can download from?

  222. james, March 31, 2008:

didn’t read carefully that I had to be on firmware 1.1.4 when I used Ziphone, until I started the jailbreak.

  223. Ronald, April 1, 2008:

Thanks for your answers rAwks! But now I have some questions about your answers! :S

    1. This entire post was basically all greek to me. What do you mean about “adding a source” and such? Could you elaborate extremely on this? The impression I got is that you have to add that source code into either the Ziphone or iPod installer, and then you can install it. How do you add the source code on that page? And what is the “wiggles?” Basically, confused by your answer so please elaborate on how to get the apps back. Oh, another question regarding this. Say I have to reset my iPod because I get that BSD error. Will it restore my apps? Will I have to look for a hack on the web or pay $20 just to get them back?

    4. Which “new post” did you mean? Are there just a couple links you could post to help me out? I will probably looking for a chat application, a better text editor then the notes app with the January software upgrade and an email program which allows me to email music/photos and more then one photo at a time, if that is possible. Other then that, I would just basically like to be able to install Flash, Java and Shockwave so I can play games on internet sites like miniclip.com

    5. This post was helpful, but still one or two questions.
    a) I got all of your abbreviations other then PSX. What does that stand for?
    b) Was it a real chore to find roms? Was it a real chore to find emulators?
    c) What other methods of having games on your iPod do you know about? I know this is probably wishful thinking, but are there any first person shooters or real time strategy games for the iPod, be they roms or actual games?

  224. rAwks, April 1, 2008:

    To Jack!!!…

The download is the size of a song…not much at all. Hope all goes well!

  225. rAwks, April 1, 2008:

    To Al…

Is this happening after you jailbreak or after you did a hard reset?!?

  226. rAwks, April 1, 2008:

    To Dom…

Make sure that there’s nothing on your queue in Installer. Make sure to clear it out. Turn off your iPod and turn it back on. Go on Installer and try to install MobileChat. If that doesn’t work, check out my post about iAppCat to find another source. Hope all goes well!

  227. rAwks, April 1, 2008:

    To James…

You have to do a hard reset to fix this. Read the new post by Lone Stag and it’ll help you out a lot. Hope all goes well!

  228. rAwks, April 1, 2008:

    To Ronald…

    1. What I meant about adding sources all has to do with Installer. When you click on Installer, click on the sources tab on the bottom. Click Edit and then click add. Then add whatever source you found. Once you input the source, it’ll refresh your sources and then you can find that app in your install tab. The “wiggles” is new to firmware 1.1.3 and 1.1.4. On older versions, iPod/iPhone did not have the wiggle feature. The wiggle feature is when you click and hold on an icon (ex. Settings), all the icons wiggle. This allows you to move your icons around to wherever you want. Regarding about the apps, you can add a source into Installer to get those apps (Mail, Notes, Weather, etc.) FOR FREE! Check out Lone Stag’s new post for detailed step by step on jailbreaking.

    4. The post I’m talking about with sources is the iAppCat post. Here’s the link: http://www.ipodtouchhacks.com/applications/iappcat/
There’s apps for chatting like Apollo or MobileChat to use. Unfortunately, you won’t be able to play miniclip.

    5. a. PSX is a playstation emulator.
    b. Finding emulators is easy! Finding ROMs is more difficult. You would have to find ROMs and download them on your comp. Then you would have to SSH into your iPod and put the ROMs in a specific folder. Another way is by finding sources that have ROM packages. So…when you install these ROM packages, they go straight into your emulator.
    c. The only method of having games onto your iPod is by finding the game you want in the game folder and installing it. If you go on that post about iAppCat you can go down the list and see which games you want to add to your iPod. I think there’s a Doom game, so check that out on iAppCat. I’m pretty sure you can find a first person shooter ROM out there.

    Hope all goes well!

    Hi rAwks!

Great answers here! I’m looking forward to get “guided” by you in a particular way in this little “adventure” of jailbreaking my Ipod touch 1.1.4 (16Gb).

I tryed this software, guided by a video on Youtube. But…I almost got crazy when I noticed that it didn’t work and it was freezed with a black background and white text all over the screen.

After reading more I found the solution of recovering everything by pressing the home and power button…

Everything is well now after restoring everything with Itunes.

I got really scarde actually and also angry with myself for trying such a thing of “hacking” my birthday present. After all, it feels like i should appreciate what I got and don’t get it broken in a few days.

Although I’m still interested in this thing, because of all the opportunitys and abillities the jailbreak thing with ZiPhone should give.

But I don’t know anymore. I’m a bit scared yeah….What should I do? It didn’t work the first time, and I’m afraid of geting it broken.

    *Sorry for my english

Looking forward for some answers. Thanks!

  237. rAwks, April 1, 2008:

    To al…

Alright, to do a hard reset…hold the home button and the wake/sleep button down. Keep holding it until your device shuts off and keep on holding it. Hold it through the Apple Logo. Finally release it until your screen has the connect to iTunes. That’s how you do a hard reset. From there, you have to restore your iPod and then do the jailbreak from there. Read Lone Stag’s post for step by step directions. Hope all goes well!

  240. Ronald, April 1, 2008:

Thanks for the answers! I feel a bit embarrassed that I did not read the posts before asking these questions, but now I think I am almost ready to jailbreak. Just a few things I need to confirm. Going through the post with the installation process, there are a few questions I have.

    1. Restore your iPod to firmware 1.1.4

    * Plug in your iPod and run iTunes.
    * When your iPod shows up in iTunes, click the restore button
o This will erase everything on your iPod, but you can sync it later
*Do not restore from a backup

I thought that clicking restore would restore my iPod to 1.1.1, not 1.1.4. What exactly will clicking restore do? Is restoring from a backup a default thing?

    2. Download ZiPhone

    * Download ZiPhone
    * Click on the downloaded file and let it install
    * If it doesn’t install, you need to download and install this .net microsoft file

The bit at the end about the .net microsoft file is only for windows right?

    3. Run ZiPhone

    * With your plugged in iPod and ZiPhone running, click Jailbreak (the second action)
    * Wait a minute, and your iPod will be jailbroken with installer on your home screen.

I have read a bit about how people have stopped the jailbreaking process because it is taking to long. If it IS taking a long time, what should I do? Just leave it?

    4. Get it Running

    * In installer, go to the Install tab, click all packages, and install BSD Subsystem
    * To get the January apps, go to the sources tab and click edit, and add http://ipodtouchmaster.com/files/repo.xml

Is there a certain place that I need to add the source? Is there other source code that is in that tab that I have to place this source before or after?

    * In the Install tab, go to iPhone 1.1.4 Applications and install iPhone 1.1.4 Apps
    * Add the source
    * In Installer, go to Install, All Packages, then install BossTool
    * Once installed, click home and let the iPod refresh

How do you let the iPod refresh?

    * Click BossTools, Free Disk Space, then Relocate Fonts
    * You can then uninstall BossTool in Installer in the Uninstall tab

  243. LEVI, April 2, 2008:

HELP! i am not a computer person but i am pretty good at figuring things out for my own. But i cant seem to figure this one out! i have installer on my ipod touch version 1.1.4 i followed all th ziphone steps, i installed BSD subsystem and openSSH, yet when i try to download apps, themes or wallpapers, it either comes up with an error of some sort, or it says its done downloading and done installing. but when i go to the home screen and let my ipod refresh, and when i get done rebooting it, the stuff is never applied. when i tap on uninstall, it will say its downloading package, cleaning up and so on. WHAT AM I DOING WRONG HERE? Please, some one help me!

  244. bob, April 2, 2008:

hey rawks my ipod 16 is saying that it cant be restored im not sure if i have 1.1.4 its stuck on the BSD root thing please help

  245. bob, April 2, 2008:

so i got it to restore and now i have 1.1.4 so should i be able to click JAILBREAK IPHONE IPOD and it will work ?????

  246. Pinky, April 2, 2008:

Thank you very very much to rAwks for the tip. It really scared me when I kept trying to restart and the screen just repeatedly show:

    BSD root: md0, major 2, minor 0
    BSD root: md0, major 2, minor 0
    BSD root: md0, major 2, minor 0

Thankfully, I am able to recover it to the original mode now. I’m a bit scared though…so I think I’ll just stick with the old way of doing this. It takes longer, but it never scared me that much. Thank you anyway for all the help!

  247. Pinky, April 2, 2008:

But now, it seems as if I cannot downgrade it back to version 1.1.1…any idea why? Did ziphone do something to my iPod Touch?

  248. jed_bello, April 2, 2008:

hey rawks now everythings working fine, iAppcat.com is the best aint it? lol…
there are some questions i have with the safari, one is i use the beejive for chatting and it says there that you can add ur account and it will be saved… but everytime i log out it says that i have no account saved.. hmmm.. why?? plus when i use friendster and i log in, when i view my profile i get logged out..

  249. rAwks, April 2, 2008:

    To Ronald…

    Hope these answer your questions:

    1. When you click restore, it’ll restore your iPod to factory settings…but it’s also going to keep it up to date. So, since we’re on firmware 1.1.4…it’s going to restore it to a firmware 1.1.4. To do this jailbreak, it’s better off if you retore without the back up. For instance, when you plug in your iPod when the screen of your iPod is the connect to iTunes, it’ll ask you to choose from your backup or if it’s new iPod. Choose the new iPod.

    2. That last part is for PC only. When I downloaded Ziphone on my Mac…it was just download and open it. That’s it!

    3. Most people stop the jailbreak because they realize it’s taking long or they realized they weren’t on firmware 1.1.4. If your iPod has a BSD root error, that’s when you should do a hard reset. The jailbreak takes less than a minute, so if it’s been like 5 minutes. Mos def do a hard reset!

    4. The way you add a source is in Installer. Click on Installer and the bottom are a bunch of tabs. Click on the one on the right that says “sources.” Then the next screen will list all your sources. To add a new source to that list, you would click on “edit” and then click on “add.” That’s when you add a new source (Ex. ipodtouchmaster.com/files/repo.xml). When you add the source, it’l refresh all your sources. Once that’s done, then you can click on the install tab on the bottom and start installing apps.

So…when you click on an app to install. Let it to it’s thing and its thing and install. When it’s done installing and when you’re done installing anything else, you just click the home button. When you click the home button, the iPod will refresh on it’s on. It’s just going to have a spinning wheel kinda thing in the middle of the screen. Once it’s done refreshing, it’ll bring you on the slide to unlock screen. That means it’s done refreshing and that new app will show up on the main screen.

About your SNES source, I installed a ROM package and I don’t know what the source is. If you go on iappcat.com you can find any source there. I wrote a post about it, if you need further information about the site. The SNES emulator works fine. I think the sound doesn’t work…but I might be wrong. Hope all goes well!

  250. rAwks, April 2, 2008:

    To ivanto12…

Do a hard reset on your iPod. Hold the home button and the wake/sleep button down until it shuts off. Keep holding it down even through the Apple logo screen. Release the buttons when you get the connect to iTunes screen. From then, restore back to 1.1.4 and do the jailbreak again. Hope all goes well!

  251. rAwks, April 2, 2008:

    To Levi…

What else did you download?!? BSD Subsystem and OpenSSH don’t have icons, so they won’t appear on the home screen. If you installed themes, you need to have installed SummerBoard. This is where you would go to set the theme of your iPod. Make sure when you have SummerBoard to restart your iPod to make it active. If you’re having problems and errors while downloading, clear your queue and turn your device on and off. Hope all goes well!

  252. rAwks, April 2, 2008:

    To Bob…

Follow Lone Stag’s directions in his post. If you’re on firmware 1.1.4 and make sure you’re auto lock is set to never. Hope all goes well!

  253. rAwks, April 2, 2008:

    To Pinky…

I don’t think you can just click restore to 1.1.1 easily. If you really want to downgrade, here’s a link: http://www.ipodtouchfans.com/forums/showthread.php?t=44217&highlight=1.1.4+downgrade+1.1.1
I haven’t heard anything about this or I haven’t used it…I’m just putting the info out there…it’s your choice to use it. Don’t blame me if it doesn’t work or anything. Hope all goes well!

  254. Justin, April 2, 2008:

    Hello everybody,

Thx a lot for the help that rawks and lonestag have given me with jailbreaking my ipod touch. also, those people who make their own post and ask for help should really consider reading some earlier posts for the answer. there are so many people with the same problem who all ask for the solution while the solution is actually in an earlier post. i would freak out if i were rawks/lonestag and people would keep on asking the same thing. But now my question (sorry): if i use installer, which worked very good on my itouch till recently, i keep on getting the message ‘main script execution failed’ with everything i try to download. I hope someone else has had the same problem… thx for your time

  255. The Lone Stag, April 2, 2008:

    To Justin:

I recommend reinstalling installer. If that doesn’t work, maybe the apps arent for 1.1.4. IF you want, restore and try again.

By the way, thanks for the writing before the question. It does sometimes get frustrating.

  256. LEVI, April 2, 2008:

Thanx rAwks, themes and stuff are working now, after i downloaded SummerBoard.

  257. Justin, April 2, 2008:

Thx again for your help :D

  258. Ronald, April 2, 2008:

    To Justin
Many people do ask questions when there are posts answering them already, but the main problem is that there are 256 posts as I type this. I read a lot of them before posting my questions, but it does take a lot of time to read them all. Yes people should read them, but it is a bit hard when there are so many posts.

  259. rAwks, April 2, 2008:

    To Ronald, Justin, actually…everybody!

WHOA…257 replies! It is true there are lots of questions that are answered within the comments, but it is a hassle to read through each comment. We don’t mind answering and helping anybody out. Lone Stag and I are ambushed with TONS of questions…mostly repetitive questions. We’re working on a new post to answer all these questions to help clarify things up, so you won’t have to read through comments to answer questions. We will have it up ASAP, but there are tons to write…so it’ll take us a bit. Hope all goes well!

i hacked a ipod touch 1.1.4 16 gb and everything was working great i can install stuff good and all the apps work but whenever i try and type somthing the ipod freezes and i have to reboot it i tried reinstalling installer but i cant think of anything else is there somthing that went wrong?
P.S. i used the ziphone hack

  272. rAwks, April 7, 2008:

    To Steve…

When it says it requires firmware 1.1.[1 2 3], it means it’s only for those firmwares. What exactly are you trying to install? Sometimes…if you turn off and on your device, you can go back on and install that app. If you want it, you can install the 1.1.4 compatibility patch. Hope all goes well!

  273. rAwks, April 7, 2008:

HI, So….here goes. I have T mobile. I synced to Itunes. Accidentally upgraded and Itunes doesnt recognize my sim card (because i have tmobile?). At first I was devistated because it took off all my apps. I turned the phone off and turned it back on to find it locked.

On the screen there is an “I” on the right bottom corner, when i press it my IMEI and my ICCID numbers are shown.
The slider takes me on the emergency call screen, but the photo I had in the background is still there. And if I try to call someone, it doesnt go through, but it shows their name and says “call failed” then “done”, So I know my contacts and info are still in the phone. I just need to get inside of it.

Ive read a million ways to unlock the iphone thus far, but which way is safe?? All I want are my NOTES!!! I am a VOCALIST/SONGWRITER and have written lots of songs in my notes when there are no pens around. For other ARTISTS ALSO! PLEASE HELP ME!!

Someone PLEASE help me! I have the old iphone. I had the new 2.0 software on it and I tried to put the ziphone software on it. Something went wrong and I had to click kill it. Now itunes says it can’t restore my iphone. I get a window after it downloads the software saying Itunes cannot restore (20). Did i totally break my phone?? I tried deleting the ziphone software off my computer and then trying to restore it again, and it won’t work! I tried that technique mentioned above about holding down sleep/wake and home and all that, still not working. If someone knows how to help me, please let me know!! THanks so much

Oh my God, you totally saved my life (aka iPod) I got so nervous, I couldn’t find a website that normally explained how to restore from Ziphone. I’m not messing with that again, it totally freaked me out! Thank you so much! And people: when you do install Ziphone, do not cancel in the middle of its progress. It cannot take it!

didn’t read carefully that I had to be on firmware 1.1.4 when I used Ziphone, until I started the jailbreak.

    ^^^^^^^^^^^^same problem

to anyone having a problem when you tried installing packages right after you jailbreak’d your iphone using ziphone – saying like “…can’t find host”. I know this sound stupid but it got me. MAKE SURE YOU HAVE YOUR WIFI CONNECTED.
