I have been using my iPod Touch over the last couple days and have taken it everywhere with me. I was on a plane and it came in handy, because I was able to watch tv shows during the ride. The screen is just big enough where you don’t have to strain your eyes to watch anything, but small enough where it fits nicely in my pocket.
I haven’t had many complaints so far with my iPod while watching video. Surprisingly the biggest fault the iPod has is when you are listening to music . When I am changing the volume while listening to music on the iPod it doesn’t feel natural and to tell you the truth feels clunky . I have read a couple reviews and have heard that others have also thought this was a downfall of the iPod Touch. The iPhone does not have this problem, because there are two buttons on the side that allows you to increase or decrease the volume wherever you are. While on the iPod Touch you need to double click the home button for the volume controls…This isn’t that hard, but I think there should be a better way to easily change the volume.
I hope someone can write an application that can make changing the volume less of an issue with the iPod Touch. What application do you want, now that you have the iPod Touch?

The usual, Maps, Chat, Mail, Weather, Stocks and other unique applications. I would also like to see Apple open up the Ipod Touch OS to third party developers. The Ipod Touch has tremendous potential and it would be a shame if Apple held it back.
the same stuff as before.
idea for controling the volume app-
hold down the hold button or other home screen button and slide up and down
Mail
Calendar (fully functional)
Chat
Weather
Maps
Stocks
games
I would like to be able to enter calendar items. I would like all my contact photos in Address Book to sync (only a few do). I would like Flash in Safari. I would like a silicone jacket before it gets it’s first ding…
CALENDAR!!! When I bought this I thought it would be the same as the iphone and I was really looking forward to it b/c I am in Lawschool and have a ton of stuff going on. I hope there is some kind of Calendar App. developed VERY SOON!!!
I hate the fact that you have to take it out whenever you want to change the volume. And how do you pause it? Double tap on the home button?
Java/flash support in safari would be great!
Like the above:
-The stuff missing, which is on the iPhone:
-Mail
-Google Maps
-Editable Calendar
- Widgets
But also, as mentioned above:
- Games
- Chat
Another thing I thought of, which I REALLY thought stevie was gonna introduce, is:
- Streaming music from computers on the same network?!?
- File sharing (never gonna happen!, but we can wish can’t we?)
ie. How about being able to actually download files, like PDF’s, photo’s, quicktime videos etc.
Extending the iTunes store, so that you can download tv shows and movies,
sure those downloads take a while, even on a fast connection, but if I could do all of the stuff on this list then I would not need to bring my laptop 80% of the time!
of cause, this IS an ipod, so I doubt that apple will be bring out any of these features any time soon!
On a last note, I do agree with you about the sound controls, mostly my problem is with the general playback of music. I also think that the controls are a bit clunky! ie. why not make an on-screen “virtual” click wheel or something?
Since it’s touch screen, then they should be able to do pretty much whatever they want with the controls, so why did they just make the usual, boring, controls?
Food for thought… Let’s hope the hackers are well on their way!
Of course, this ISN’T really just an iPod, it’s just been crippled to work that way. What is, by design, in a true hardware and OS sense, is an iPhone without the phone. What needs to be done to “fix” it is to give it back what’s been taken away.
simple.. the chrome back gets really nasty easily from all the finger prints. i would have liked it to have a flat black back. im almost imbarrased to show it off with the back covered in all its finger prints, it looks nasty
I agree about the back of the ipod. When my wife and I had the iPhones (gave them back because AT&T sucks bad) I was impressed that the back was very scratch resistant. You would have thought that Apple would have learned and stuck with the new backs. I am scared to death to take my iPod Touch out of my pocket or even put it in the cup holder while driving. My wife hasn’t even used hers yet due to no case and she doesn’t want to scratch hers.

get an ivisible shield they are amazing btw on my touch right now
Again, I’d like to have all the missing iPhone apps like Mail, Calendar, but more important than stocks and weather: Notes.
It would be great that someone finds out quickly how to add 3rd party apps to the ‘touch!
I was like the other people complaining about the volume controll for the touch (which I am using to type this by the way!) and I really disliked not having the buttons on the side. Now, I take it back. I had become very used to tapping the home button twice, quickly, and going to the “Hidden” controls for music.

You know there is a radio tuner for the iPods with volume control, but there isn’t one for itouch (yet)
P.s. Im doing this on my iPod touch
i bought my 16gb model today! yay!!!! - yeah, i agree, the back is a bit scratch resistant… i suspose i will just have to buy a protective case for it (=

Calendar fixed please. Apple, your own website even said for a while it worked. I can’t use Att in my area, the touch is it for me. I get the whole product differentiation game. I’ll even accept notes in contacts as good enough, it is just hard seeing what can only be explained as a greedy marketing decision from a company I have admired. I’m a switcher, leaving the pc and these kinds of marketing ploys behind, I thought. Read only when readwrite is obviously available is *not* superior design. A serious dissapointment on an otherwise wonderful handheld.
Download podcasts w/ WiFi !!!!!!!!!
VPN support
AIM
NES
I would like to see a couple simple things:
1) An option to turn off the locking featuring. I like that my screen can dim after 1 minute, but I don’t like that I have to slide to unlock it each time. That is useful if the iPod is in my pocket, but when I have it laying out, I don’t want to unlock it everytime!
2) For the volume, I would make it as simple as possible. Again, have an option to protect those that will have the device bouncing around, but utilize the old iPod feel. Have a finger-swipe recognizer that will understand you are drawing a circle with your fingertip, and therefore are trying to increase/decrease volume. Allow this to be done whether the screen is locked or not. This would solve the problem of me having to take the damn thing out of my pocket every time I want to increase/decrease the volume.
I wonder if you could connect those microphone to use “IM + Skype” on this device to make calls via WIFI?
Double tapping the home button brings up volume controls anywhere and that pretty much works good enough for me. I’d love to see flash in Safari though. I know the PSP has it and considering that didn’t even have a web browser when it was first released gives me hope that we will get flash in a future update. Speaking of the PSP’s web browser I’d also love to be able to open links in a new window and be able to download content (with a “save file/target as” option) both are doable on the PSP. I’d also like to see more applications on this such as email, google maps and possibly games. I was actually surprised this didn’t come with the basic solitaire, breakout and parachute games that my nano had out of the box.
I say bug fixes, Got mine yesterday and there are too many bugs!
1) Browsing while listening to music, Music crashed forgot what i was listening to and went a few artists back.
2) Wifi stays connected but web traffic stops (Seems to be related to MacBook internet sharing though)
Other than those which i expect to be quick fixes.
+Crippled applications, A landscape application menu and youtube (Starting to get sick of rotating all the time)
+Password saving, It might just be me but it’s not yet saved a password in safari and typing out passwords is a hassle
Flash in bowser, If i can use youtube why cant I use youtube! (If they think it’d slow the browser and be clunky, they have the on off for javascript and everything it’d be easy having the features and turning them off is better than nothing)
Good part: Wifi can work well ,and remembers / autojoins networks i’ve been to (Without passwords)
VPN is essential! Most campuses use a vpn client for encrypting wireless traffic. Apple put it on the iPhone, so I can’t understand why it’s not on the Touch! Has anyone found any 3rd party work arounds?
What truly sucks is the video management. No playlists, no way to organize them - and yet it’s all built in to iTunes and works fine there.
Best workaround I’ve found: Create smart playlists on Ttunes that do whatever organizing of your videos, music and podcasts you need done. Then create another smart playlist that includes all these playlists. Turn off synching. Then just drag your mega-playlist over. It’ll copy all your vids (but not organize them into playlists!) and keep your music playlists.
i don’t know if anyone else has had this problem, but all too often when i double-click the home button when it’s locked, the volume/play controls appear just fine, but the ipod does not respond to any touches or taps in that area! the unlock slider works, though… sometimes double-tapping on the home button several times more will get the playback controls to be responsive, but by that time i might as well have unlocked it :/
I never bought the Iphone because my Pocket PC Smartphone can do same capabilities the Iphone can do (email, web browsing. IM Chat, Office suite application which Iphone can’t do not good. 3g speed which Iphone can’t do not very good. So people who on line for Iphone I feel sorry for you all ha ha ha…
I love it when Steve Case drop the price. Oh another thing Iphone can’t do is watch live TV from my place ha ha ha… Windows Mobile can handle this but I phone can’t ha ha ha…
Bill, Steve, let me take this opportunity to congratulate you all in helping me look like a complete god and making America the place it is today. If it wasnt for your lack of common sense and your orientation towards product sales over customer satisfaction, I’d be in Iraq selling grenades (to the iraqi’s)

I do not know how possible it would be but it would be cool to have a touch scroll wheel on the screen to change the volume similiar to the older models but actually on the touch screen.
YOOOOOOOW….
I dunno why, but in my volume control (after I double click the home button), the pause/play, next and previous button is not working.
but the volume bar is working..
so if I wanna change the music, I have to go to the music menu, then change (next/previous) from there (>_
I am having the exact same problem as Ooze and bunnyhero and it is so frustrating to have to unlock or leave out of what I was doing to go to music and change it. I can’t figure out why its happening! >:(
