What hack or application do you want for the iPod Touch?

Author : kdollar

The iPod Touch has not been released so its unlikely there are hacks being developed at this point but many people are already brainstorming hacks and applications that would enhance the iPod Touch experience. Let us know in the comments area if you have any suggestions or requests for hacks/applications. We will then make a list of all the requests to allow potential developers to check what ideas our community has come up with. Who knows, you may have your idea developed first…assuming that the iPod Touch will be hacked to allow third party applications to be installed (We all know that this will only be a matter of time).

Update: Here is the page with the running list of iPod Touch Hacks Requests.

    hi!
for me some of the musts for the ipod touch will be a good nes/snes emulator and a program like adium/msn that can works via wifi :)
I don’t know if there are possibility about these things (I’m not a hacker and I don’t know anything about it…) but I’m dreaming about them :D

  2. phill, September 6, 2007:

hey =) I would love if one could add the mail app from iphone to ipod touch…. See no problem in that ?

    Or ?

and yeah, adium or webbmessenger would be cool =)

  3. Greg, September 6, 2007:

Telekinesis must be ported to the iPod Touch so we can have remote desktop access to our Macs.

Mail should definately be there. Why not try to get a mobile version of OpenOffice on the sucker? Mobile iWork would be cool. By the way, why isn’t Notes on the device?

    GoogleMaps anyone? WiFi hotspots pre-loaded?

Widgets perhaps? I mean freak, just give me an iPhone w/o the phone!

  4. Nadav, September 6, 2007:

First of all: Skype ! i mean… u can make this an iPhone just by adding that
of course some Word like app. would be great
on the Messenger apps i can give up, there is meebo.com for that

    10x

  5. carrythebanner, September 6, 2007:

Notes! Or any text editor, really. Actually, the stationery in the iPhones Notes app is pretty lame, so I’d rather it be a new editor than Notes (but I’d take either).

  6. Jacob, September 6, 2007:

I agree with the skype thought. While it obviously has wifi, what about sound input/microphone? It looks like it’s on there… but there’s no mention of it. The first thing I thought of when I heard there was wifi was “chat applications!”

It’s obvious that the ipod touch fills the gap between the ipod and the iphone. I’m going to wait a bit before I decide on which ipod is next (my old one has been dead for a while and I wanted to replace it instead)

  7. Shaun, September 6, 2007:

Google maps would be a nice feature.
I also second on the case of IM oh and if you’re at it Mail would be nice if it could be ported ;)

  8. roo, September 6, 2007:

Mm, some games will be apreciated

  9. DanTheMan, September 6, 2007:

I think there definitely should be a chat app. and a google maps app. I think those should be the first priority!

    Thanks!!

  10. Stafford, September 6, 2007:

    RSS reader.
Will the iPod Touch download podcasts over wifi?

  11. Nikos, September 6, 2007:

I think it a good idea to add iphone’s app to ipod touch
    -Mail (the most important)
-An msn client (adium amsn or other)
-Skype but it’ll hard to add an micro
-Some games and extra using accelerator sensor like a car game use the sensor to drive or a flipper

  12. Nikos, September 6, 2007:

And i forgot a program to take notes

  13. centro, September 6, 2007:

    I would like to see:

    - Mail
    - PDF reader
    - iChat
    - WiFi network locator

  14. narbat, September 6, 2007:

The display on my PDA is dying. If the iPod Touch can be hacked to do normal PDA-like functions and if Safari can open pages stored locally (so I can read ebooks), it looks like it’d be a jim-dandy replacement for me.

Oh, and Nethack. Because anything with a processor should have a port of Nethack. :-)

  15. DMH, September 6, 2007:

Pleasezzzzzzz NES/SNES emulator … Like someone else I’ve been dreaming about this too!!!!!!

  16. Jim, September 6, 2007:

I would like all the standard PDA type functions, plus a telnet/SSH client so I can get into my linux servers remotely for emergency purposes.

Also, for a hardware hack, how about the ability to get data into it, so we could plug in a GPS receiver.

  17. Litz, September 6, 2007:

I really want to see Mail, Google Maps, and Notes… just like the iPhone. Another thing I’m wondering about is if I’ll be able to wirelessly stream music from the iPod to my apple airport at home with my stereo connected to it. I currently do that with my mac powerbook and iTunes, but if I could do it with the iPod it would be SO cool.

  18. Will, September 6, 2007:

Mail, PDF Reader, Google Maps, IM, Widgets and Notes would be GREAT!!!!

  19. Will, September 6, 2007:

I’ll be waiting for the hacks so they can be installed…………. ;-)

  20. Andy, September 7, 2007:

Flash and Java support for the browser. I’ve heard that the Touch doesn’t support either, which would leave out loads of websites.

  21. David, September 7, 2007:

google maps would be soo cool! also it would be really kewl if you could watch youtube videos using the inbuilt wifi, and save to them on the cache of the phone, so you can take them with you and show your friends (without having wifi coverage)… it wouldnt have to be a very complicated hack… and it would be really handy!
    what do you reckon???

  22. Adam, September 7, 2007:

definatly some type of P2P or Torrent Client because who wants to waste their money on music when im already paying $400 for the ipod… you have to admit that it would be pretty sweet to download any music you wanted, on the go, for free.

  23. david, September 7, 2007:

@ adam - good idea - thatd rock!
and ushould be able to use wifi like bluetooth to connect to others ipods to share songs etc.

  24. Nichael, September 7, 2007:

Mail, notes or other pim functions, PDF reader and I know it’s of no use on this release but in future releases a camera.

  25. Michael, September 7, 2007:

Mail, PIM functions and a camera to actually take photos instead of just syncing from another device and get rid of YouTube. If I want to see youtube wouldn’t I just surf to it in the web browser?

  26. David, September 7, 2007:

michael, it would be a lot easier with the inbuilt ipodtouch-youtube to browse youtube, because it is specially designed for a smaller screen and ease of use. For eg. when you went into a video, it would automatically resize the video size to fit your screen so you wouldnt have to zoom into the video. it sounds like only a small thing, but trust me… that would be really annoyin..

  27. Jimi, September 7, 2007:

I sort of feel ya on the P2P client, but think about it. Are you going to be at a hotspot long enough to DL a full song let alone entire album? You are better off using your home PC to DL media and transfer it later. I would like to see:

    -Mail App
    -PDF reader
    -Netstumbler (Kismet port)
    -Divx player
    -FF
    -Text Editor

and what I know would be my ultimate favorite Sharetunes port. Just go to any trendy coffee shop. There will no doubt be a slew of iPod touches. Then transfer songs straight from iTunes Shared Library. Or w/ your friends and family.

  28. David, September 7, 2007:

hey jimmy, when you say sharetunes port, you mean you can share your songs with other people who have the ipod touch as well? please elaborate - thanks (=

  29. bender, September 7, 2007:

Some web sites are saying the new ipod has a inactivated bluetooth chip.
If they can hack the ipod to activate it, then using Skype via bluetooth would be a cert.

  30. David, September 7, 2007:

seems like they were wrong… “An Apple spokesperson has confirmed to Boing Boing Gadgets that the upcoming iPod Touch does not include Bluetooth, despite rumors to the contrary today” http://gadgets.boingboing.net/2007/09/06/confirmation-no-blue.html

however, it all seems a bit sus… on the official mac website, in the pictures of the ipod touch, there is little bluetooth icon in the top right corner, and apparantly the internals of the touch are very similar to that of the iphone… i guess well just have to wait until we get hold of them, and take a look inside! im not getting to excited - but having bluetooth would be sooo awesome..

  31. Jimi, September 7, 2007:

Hey David, that is exactly what I am saying. To go even further than that, it should be able to RIP from any iTunes shared library. Be it on a PC or Mac. Just as long as you are on the same network you would be able to spot their library and RIP RIP RIP. Oh, I forgot to add some sort of IM client i.e. iChat.

  32. David, September 7, 2007:

yeah, thanks, that would be cool
about the IM client… someone suggested meebo.com…? i dunno it seems to support a whole range of clients, but i dont suppose it would be as good as ichat (=

  33. jimi, September 8, 2007:

Meebo is cool and all but i do not want my browser designated for chatting. i think an IM client would prolly be more optimal. Meebo helps for chatting while at work and behind company firewall ;p

  34. Jack, September 8, 2007:

    SNES9X

  35. azt1an, September 8, 2007:

1 - Access Videos from PC to iPod Touch Wirelessly.
2 - Supprt Divx Xvid or other codecs.
3 - To save files from the iPod Internet to the PC or Ipod.

  36. jimi, September 8, 2007:

Azt1an, do you mean to just transfer/store media or streaming from PC? streaming would be pretty cool IMHO. Frees up what little space it comes with already.

  37. Pedro, September 9, 2007:

there should be a file browser, where u can access, create, copy, and move files and folders on the ipod.

  38. Aerwave, September 9, 2007:

    I would like to see:

    - all-in-one AIM chat app, similar to Adium
    - Skype app
    - Sketch app, Photoshop or Illustrator light (Gimp)
    - display detect utility app (use video output with magic cable/computer to connect my monitor or plasma TV as a mirror or bust open my viewing space, even use iTouch as you would your trackpad, on a macbook)
    - vlc app (play any type of divx off the bat)
    - Adobe Shockwave plugin/app (need to see Flash)
    - print file app (”apple sign P” over wifi and print my document or *.pdf to a network printer)
    - keychain app (store user and pass info for quickly using Safari Mobile - potentially dangerous)
    - PDF reader and creator (maybe NeoOffice light)
    - WiFi network locator (switch network manually/automatically)
    - FTP app (like transmit)
    - Play internet radio via iTunes, got to have my deepmix.ru (may already be possible?)
    - StuffIt app (create *.tgz)
    - TextMate app (more than just *.txt, quick coding… NeoOffice light)
    - Expose app (just like Safari Mobile uses, but also with my *.txt, *.pdf, etc)
    - Growl app (event notification app, tight for completed downloads, new emails, AIM, etc)
    - Keynotes app, slideshow/presentation app (show tight demos on the go)
    - NeoOffice light app (let’s do it)
    - detect neighboring iTouch(s) app (share, trade files, apps, music, even chat, or better play games Halo style… unlock rumored blueTooth)
    - and of course SNES/MAME app (my #1 install)

  39. Mac Patterson, September 9, 2007:

Alot of people have been talking about skype… do we even know if there is a mic on the thing? If it does turn out to have bluetooth, that could be an wasy work around, and even if it doesnt, someone need to try and use the iphone earphones (w/ the bulit in mic) maybe apple was lazy (or sneeky) and left the headphone jack with the input abllitys?

My dream apps list would be…

-skype (if what i mentioned above happens)
-all the apps we are missing from the iphone… (added functinality to mail app for easy SMS MMS sending!)
    -adium
    -a keychain app
-a port of open office or neo office for the touch (w/ ablity to print on wifi network)
    - an oversimple paint app (think M$ paint) just for fun

The most creative idea i have heard for a game so far is a racing game that uses the accelarometer as a steering wheel… (think about the wii)

  40. mikael, September 9, 2007:

    Windows Media Connect

  41. Brad P., September 9, 2007:

I would Love a Great N64 emulator, I’m sure the iPod Touch could handle those 10 year old graphics by now.

  42. Brad P., September 9, 2007:

One more thing, an iPod Touch port of “WINE” (WINdows Emulator) from the mac, which is originally a port from Linux. So I can finally play Ski Free.

  43. Brad P., September 9, 2007:

I would also like to see a funny “To Don’t” list app, instead of todo list.

  44. jimi, September 9, 2007:

Hey Brad P, how bout Windows Media Player for that list :p

  45. Ian, September 10, 2007:

Since the iPod touch will have wi-fi…..do you think that it will be able to connect to avnetwork with other’s iTunes and listen to their music like you can with laptops or desktops?

  46. David, September 10, 2007:

Aerwave, out of all the apps you have listed, i think the best two are:
    - detect neighboring iTouch(s)
    - and vlc (skinnable?)
they are by far the ones i want the most… what do you reckon the possibility of getting them are? - and if we can get them, do u think it will be very complicated to install?

  47. Chrisp, September 10, 2007:

Good idea….VLC, video lan client, which can play just about every video format there is would make the iPod Touch a killer PMP. That would mean never having to re-encode anything for the iPod Touch, all you would have to do is transfer the file to it and play it.

  48. Aerwave, September 10, 2007:

David, unfortunately I do not know of the possibilities of getting vlc or detect neighboring iTouch(s). But I do have a friend and fellow business partner who is a computer engineer. We’ve been patiently awaiting a device such as the Touch. I’ll ask him what his thoughts are, and maybe even nudge him along to start coding some apps… Can’t promise anything though.

  49. David, September 10, 2007:

    k, cool

  50. Aerwave, September 10, 2007:

My friend quickly suggested one of two things: either run straight up Linux (which is what he did to his photo iPod, which in turn has morphed into a video iPod), or simply locate and install codecs for the quicktime player. Hence, he suggested making some sort of codec package for quicktime on the Touch.

  51. David, September 10, 2007:

ah yes, i remember installing Linux on my friends ipod nano… brings back memorys (=
if only we could install vlc as a third party app, that would be way better - but i agree a codec package for the touch is a good idea.
anyway, back to the “decect neighboring itouch app” how do you reckon that would work? would it be as simple as just installing a third party application? (i suppose that would be to easy lol) - personally i think this is by far the most important hack to be considered.

  52. Trannis, September 10, 2007:

I want a skype program to be activated with bluetooth. So I don’t have to pay for cellphone service.

  53. Geo, September 11, 2007:

    -iChat
    -Notes
    -Google Maps
    -Mail
-iCal (actually being able to edit the thing on the go)
    -Weather

  54. Amall, September 11, 2007:

    IF the ipod has bluetooth:

Dialup internet connection through your bluetooth enabled mobile phone.
    SMS messaging through mobile phone
    OBEX to mobile phone.

Many of the features of the iphone could thus be replicated by just connecting your ipod to your mobile phone through bluetooth.

If they left a mic and/or speaker on the ipod (highly doubtful), then the ipod could emulate a bluetooth headset and work as a handset for your other mobile phone. More likely, additional hardware could be added to the ipod for the speaker and mic.

  55. EvilTikiHeAD, September 11, 2007:

if someone wrote a codec for like quicktime music player or something that would be cool. because then, i can most likely use the program Orb to listen to music wirelessly from my remote desktop using the ipod touch. or can the ipod touch already do that without quicktime?

  56. Xerbeos, September 11, 2007:

    Aim would be sweet

  57. jimi, September 12, 2007:

i hope it can stream from a PC. If it recognizes shared music folders in iTunes you could do that. I mean it has WiFi. I hope this thing does not dissappoint.

  58. tomhalv, September 12, 2007:

I would love to see a good eBook reader app. The free eReader OSX app from http://www.ereader.com would be a good one.

  59. paka, September 12, 2007:

plug-able microphone would be great! Than skype and VoIP got way open so I can get rid of my month plan and stick to prepaid just in case and switch to Skype completely.

  60. dss, September 12, 2007:

A c++ based 3n frontsider, that shut down when all processes going 9(%) of the basic programming os x. And also a bit recorder that contains all feature that the vlc needle does!

  61. Douglas, September 12, 2007:

A PDF reader on the iPod Touch is essential for me.

  62. Guorui, September 12, 2007:

maybe plugins for the media player so it can play stuff like .wmv, .avi, etc.

  63. Guorui, September 12, 2007:

also, office should take advantage of the ipod’s touchscreen, so it should have some thing like onenote, and something that has handwriting to text converter, like a regular pda.

  64. Rayzur, September 13, 2007:

Application that uses (or is similar) to the freeware program ScummVm. Being able to play the old lucasarts games on an ipod touch / iphone would rock!

  65. Kayde, September 13, 2007:

I recon all of the abouve would be usefull - but something like a peer to peer would be the most usefull, like the zune app or something. so a video can be streamed from your pc etc. with the fast WIFI this has GOTTA be an extra effort project. Good luck with the devs -
I can hardly sleep one night without thinking about all the wonderfull apps could be placed on it. Imagine an Ipodlinux version for the ipodT. wow. cool. DAMN there goes annother nice sleep ; ) Hobo-well. enjoy guys cyaz.

  66. al-b, September 13, 2007:

what about increasing the gigs from 16 to however many can fit in there???

  67. Love D., September 13, 2007:

Well, I want to create music with the touch. A lightversion of the renoise tracker or similar, that plays notes with the touchkeyboard? No vst´s of course, the sounds can be wav or aif. It would be big… Artists making musicsketches on the train or composing breakbeats on the fly.

  68. The Joker, September 14, 2007:

how about ical? or something like that….

an organizer thing would be great!

  69. Steve, September 14, 2007:

The thing I want most is the damn plus button back on the calendar to add some events on the fly! Syncable both ways with iCal, of course.

  70. rodrigo, September 14, 2007:

    i would like to have
some chat function msn or something similar.
skype when one can fix the microphone thing.
    a good text editor.
    a wifi loctator ofcourse.
and abunch of new games ofcourse, that´s always good(but that will come it walys does)
and proper keyboardofcourse, but thaty might be avaiable already.

  71. Kevin, September 14, 2007:

MUST HAVE GPS!!!! I NEED GOOGLE MAPS ON THERE LIKE THE IPHONE!

also since its a flash drive is it possible to change it to a bigger memory stick urself?

  72. Aerwave, September 15, 2007:

News!!! Has anyone tried the steps found on http://www.hacktheipodtouch.com/

    ?

  73. Monsinieur, September 15, 2007:

I think it would be cool to have GPS although I don’t know if there are any input/outputs to hookup a receiver…..

  74. bulfrog, September 15, 2007:

Remote Desktop Application. Support for Divix

  75. MIkaEL, September 15, 2007:

Stream videos to ipod touch via safari with TVersity.

  76. veryniceipod, September 15, 2007:

All of the apps that are on the iPhone would be nice (Mail, Notes, Stocks, Maps, and Weather) including an iCal that you can add events on the fly that will also sync with the iCal on my mac.

  77. Luis, September 16, 2007:

If you can get SWF Files to play on websites
    IE: MySpace Music
That would be like the BEST hack EVER

  78. Brandon, September 17, 2007:

I would like to see Flash Player be a first priority to go to the iPod touch.
I am personally going to attempt, and use all the power I have, and programming knowledge, to get the flash player to work. :)

After Flash, I don’t know. We will probably see Bluetooth hardware mods, then you can get a wireless headset, then Skype.

  79. Ray, September 17, 2007:

if you go on ebuddy.com/mobile/ you can login on MSN, AIM, and Yahoo and also join AIM chat rooms ;)

  80. Nick, September 17, 2007:

    stream wirelessly to airtunes

  81. Will, September 18, 2007:

i got somethin that i didnt see here how bout a music/video compressor that compress mp3 or mp4 to get better use of the gigs provided. Also a program that lets you take or share music from computers around you for free like if your sitting next to your bud and you want a song but dont want to pay you could connect with him and take his songs while keeping yours. Also games emulator are definately a must for the i touch like snes and n64

  82. rigormortis, September 18, 2007:

I’ve had my iTouch for 5 days now. There’s a big problem with using this thing in the car…it’s nearly impossible to adjust volume and go to the next track with the given interface. I’d love an addition to the “now playing” interface that would allow custom gestures for volume (maybe a circular motion like the old wheel) and next/last track (maybe a flick forward or backward like in the photo browser).

This hack could actually save lives! Please, or great hackers, make this one happen! Ad->Thanks

  83. Mac Patterson, September 19, 2007:

    2 words- Landscape Keyboard!

this would alow for easier typing in many of the productivity apps we want to put out

  84. Daniel, September 19, 2007:

I couldn’t understand some parts of this article ck or application do you want for the iPod Touch? | iPod Touch Hacks, but I guess I just need to check some more resources regarding this, because it sounds interesting.

  85. Wing, September 19, 2007:

An alarm application that beeps through the speaker and not just the headphones would be a great application. Other than that, instant messenging or writing notes would be good.

  86. Jonathan, September 19, 2007:

    How about internet radio stations?

  87. Caspian, September 20, 2007:

    iChat
    Pdf reader (Preview?)
VLC (as that pretty much lets you watch any movie files)
    iCal
Skype (for text skyping until the microphone and peripherals come on)
And ability to use it as a storage device for other data. like my old ipod.
    good luck to you guys!

  88. Brettweiser, September 20, 2007:

You can load PDF’s in Safari. And I also found that if you lust leave the browser tab open after the PDF has loaded it will keep all info stored even if your connection isn’t present it will also keep you page marked. This is a huge thing for me. I want to be able to read e-books on the Touch so now all i do is up load them and boom PDF Reader is done. :)

  89. Peter Beddow, September 21, 2007:

    iCal, silly!

  90. Theory, September 21, 2007:

first off… a thank you to all those dedicated programmers out there doing this for us and more so for me, lol but ok, Some things I’d like to see happen for the ipod touch would be

~ a text app; .rtf .word or .doc “create, edit, save” something similar to contacts app

~ a all codecs pack… but if not, then atleast one for the .avi format

    ~ remove the iTunes icon

~ wallpaper for the menu screen

~ the ability to delete songs, the same way videos do

~ and the ability to edit and save events to the calendar without having to sync up to the computer

~ most importantly the ability to adjust the “Contrast and Color” of ipod touch (hopefully added on to the Brightness option inside of settings)

so thank you in advance to those of you out there striving to make things better for us all….. Thank You
    Hopeful smiley –> (^_^) lol

  91. Yiu Wai Chan, September 21, 2007:

Connecting my iTouch for the 1st time to my pc, I noticed the pc does not treat it like an external hard drive. A hack to allow any pc to read the iTouch as an external hard drive would be great - just like the nano.

  92. Yiu Wai Chan, September 21, 2007:

Forgot to add - adding notes to the calendar would be really appreciated. And playing flash video on Safari.

  93. Collateral, September 23, 2007:

As said above, I want to add notes to the calender like the iphone can

  94. plingboot, September 24, 2007:

i WANT support for qtvr media - the touch couldn’t be more suited to displaying/navigating cubic panoramic images - and as it’s an apple technology it seems ludicrus that it isn’t supported.

  95. yianni, September 25, 2007:

  96. lindsey, September 26, 2007:

I go to a university where everyone has to go through clean access agent in order to get onto the internet. But I can’t download applications onto my iTouch. Is there anyway I can put Clean Access Agent onto my iTouch (by downloading or transferring?)

  97. Sid, September 27, 2007:

Don’t forget to support XviD as well as DivX video format.. Notice that on the list it wasn’t listed.

  98. atOm, September 27, 2007:

    a bittorrent app!

  99. Vynn, September 27, 2007:

I’d love to see StumbleUpon on the ipod touch, either as the browser to stumble around on, or the video.stumbleupon.com portal for video stumbling (most of which is aggrigated from YouTube anyway…)

  100. Zero, September 27, 2007:

How about an option to stream to Airport Express. Just like how iTunes on a Mac can detect if there’s an Airport Express connected to a network with speakers.

  101. Joe, September 28, 2007:

something that lets you copy and paste

  102. Joe, September 28, 2007:

id also really like something that can take advantage of AirTunes, if thats even possible. i think thats more of a hardware thing rather than a software thing though….

  103. Mo, September 28, 2007:

A calendar app that will let you add events/ appointments directly from the iPod touch.

  104. Peter Edge, September 29, 2007:

    GBC Emulation!

  105. Boo, September 29, 2007:

Itunes shared library reader or something

  106. Swansong, October 3, 2007:

Calendar app that downloads from Google Calendar (add events/ appointments too)

  107. enric badia, October 3, 2007:

    iCal (enter/edit appointments)

  108. Shadow, October 3, 2007:

    1) BitTorrent/ Limewire (that would provide for easy new songs for all us file sharers out there!)
    2) All- in- one IM program (I personally like Trillian, but is it supported by Mac OS X?). I used poster #79 (Ray’s) website of http://www.ebuddy.com/mobile, but I don’t like how you have to refresh each time you want to check if the person replied.
    3) More dominance on the music screen given to the time seek (you have to tap the album art just to be able to see the time left/ elapsed in the song)
    4) Maybe even a different OS? I’ve heard that other iPod versions were able to run Linux with proper procedures.

  109. iPodista, October 5, 2007:

Firstly it would be nice to have crash free safari then get coverflow working so it follows along with the song being played. I need to see flash plug-in support for Safari, next I would love to be able to add events to calendar like i can contacts to address book. also PDF reading in Safari.

Getting greedy a quicktime player that can let us connect to streaming audio radio as I doubt we will be getting iTunes for iPod as well as running flip4mac so we can access windoze meejah

Mail client would be groovy but I am quite happy getting my web mac mail through safari. I expect we will have to leave it to Griffin or Belkin to develop a dock station that handles audio in for others to develop Skype further as well as blue tooth support

  110. chen, October 6, 2007:

install games on the ipod touch

  111. Dan, October 6, 2007:

Allow the touch to be a direct storage device, like a flash key. And my biggest pet peeve with all Ipods….remove all recognition of “home computer” so that you can have songs uploaded from multiple computers…in case you want to “barrow” a song from a freind!

  112. syde fx ink, October 7, 2007:

I want to be able to add events and to-do’s to calender.

  113. oscar klock, October 8, 2007:

hi! I don’t know anything about hacking but….. if som hackers couldhack tha ipod touch and put in som games and so you can change theam on the home menu!:D tank you!

  114. Kristian Trenskow, October 9, 2007:

The iPod touch would be in my pocket instantaneously, if it had support for AirTunes. Apple must have thought about this, but maybe it was dismissed due to battery issues, taking into account, that the music has to be transcoded, from the various supported formats in iPod Touch, to Apple Lossless, before sending it through Wi-Fi to the Airport Express.

  115. rompope00009, October 11, 2007:

All you really need is installer.app for ipod touch (mac and windows version)

  116. Gin, October 12, 2007:

I’m with narbat, up there. Let Safari open pages stored locally. This alone would lead me to buy one.

Incidentally, is there a way to switch off the Wifi?

If they were trying to distance the Touch from the Phone, why didn’t they give it more PDA-like functions anyway?

  117. vamos, October 12, 2007:

Hey - how about a remote control feature so you can control e.g. iTunes running on either your Mac or PC from the Touch? Like cover flow etc. Best regards, me.

  118. dan, October 13, 2007:

custom equalizer settings for music. that would be sick. i would probably pay for it.

  119. Trevor, October 14, 2007:

I would like to see the usenet reader application ‘Unison’ on the ipod touch. Anyone else?

  120. Chris, October 21, 2007:

Dunno if anyone’s mentioned it yet, but I would love it if Safari could play Flash movies, cos a lot website use flash now and it just doesn’t make sense that the Ipod touch can’t view them.

  121. Agustin corona, October 21, 2007:

    watch tv via wifi

  122. Humbert, October 24, 2007:

    -Copy/paste funtion
-music alarm/sleep function for use with external speakers

  123. John, October 25, 2007:

Definiately needs to work as a STORAGE DEVICE as per previous iPods. Just found the Touch does not provide the STORAGE DEVICE feature and this is driving me insane.

  124. Chris, October 31, 2007:

    Custom Equalizer

  125. Kenneth Bingham, November 4, 2007:

How about a wifi signal strength meter that shows a big bar in the display for how strong a signal is and if its locked or not. I drive all over to find wifi spots and it takes too long to stay in the settings menu waiting for stuff to pop up. A wifi signal locator would be a definite. Also being able to arrange your own icons… Thx. Ps if i were to invest in programming the ipod apps what language do they use and what programs should i get??

  126. a dog, November 6, 2007:

ok umm i was just wanting to know if you have to pay for the internet service seapret ofr is it on the ipod touch all ready!!!!! :)

  127. i'm from ger, November 13, 2007:

i need an iPod Touch for presentation purposes

    1. disable the button on the iPod touch
    2. only working application should be the Safari Browser
    3. remowe all icons

  128. Me, December 3, 2007:

I just really want a hack that allows you to connect an external hard drive to Touch via USB and be able to use it as it was the Touch own hard drive.

I mean, I really want to buy a touch, but the 16 Gb limit is really taking me back. If there was a hack to connect a memory expansion, it would be kickass…

  129. jon, December 9, 2007:

i need flash, first of all. secondly would be an easy way to use an im client

  130. mihir, December 9, 2007:

i want an option for manual equalizer settings and an option for stereo widening and a deeper bass. i’m ready to pay for this mod if someone does it.

  131. Blaze, December 21, 2007:

OMFG i NEED an alarm app that plays my efing music. not beeps.

  134. Rob, December 26, 2007:

    Hey,

I have a problem with my touch…well ok not with my touch but with its WiFi capabilities. You see there is a friend who lives about 100-150 feet up the street from me and he has a WiFi network that is not secure. i can use it whenever i hang at his place. But once i get halfway back to my place the signal dies!
There are two solutions to this problem.
    1) (Friendly way) Somehow design a contraption that will pick up WiFi connections and refocus them into my house so i can use my friends unsecure line (NO cAntenas plz…keep it cheap).
    or
    2) (unfriendly way) Design an App that will wirelessly (using my ipod) crack the password to my nextdoor nieghboors secure line.

This is a problem i have been working with non stop for the last two days. please end my madness and respond on this site or better yet email me at curious_haney@hotmail.com
    Thanks,
    Rob

  135. CME, January 4, 2008:

I would love to be able to download save and watch youtube videos from my touch. on the go. Like how we have music videos and things, if we could get any of that off of youtube it would be great, and also I have been able to upload my personal home videos from my computer, but for some reason the sound is not compatible so I can watch my videos but not hear the sound. What should I do?

  136. tp, January 6, 2008:

how about a peer to peer application. like limewire only you can do it all right on the ipod touch (or iphone).

  137. gator, January 14, 2008:

the huge draw back of the i touch is the lack of the ability to use/add external memory, all other problems will be fixed with the custem apps that now can be applied to the i touch menu. if only i had enough room to stroe half the stuff i need on it.

  138. Roger, February 8, 2008:

Is there an app that allows you to connect to locked wi-fi hot spots?

  139. sam, February 16, 2008:

I would really like to see a mod for the alarm that lets the alarm be a playlist. They used to have this on older generations and I don’t understand why they’ve changed to these strange beeping noises.

  140. Rich, March 13, 2008:

I-Touch needs the compatibility / book availability of E-Reader - Definitely. I’m still holding on to my palm T-3 to read books. I’ve given up paper for the E-reader on my Palm T-3, now would love to give up the T-3 for the I-Touch.

  141. EV1L H3RO, April 2, 2008:

you know how music videos show up in the artist’s album. well it would be nice if the video would play in the album art area when you are listening to it instead of having to go to videos to watch it.
basicly watch videos where the album art should be!

  142. Oscar, April 3, 2008:

I think that most of the iPod third party applications are great already, we have utilities to change the look and feel of the iPod (Summerboard, Customize for example), entertainment (Everything from iPhysics to Pianist and Drummer) other tools (Boss Tool, OpenSSH etc.).

What the iPod still lacks though, is tweaks and improvement of the basic features. I agree with the other posts about a Custom Equalizer. Let’s face it; the built-in equalizer in the iPod is pathetic. With a few tweaks it would be a lot better, first of all the ability to manually control the equalizer would be great. Another thing that I think a lot of people (including me) would think is awesome would be a powerful bass-booster (like the “MegaBass” on SE Walkmans) and maybe even a Stereo Widener.

Especially a manual EQ and a powerful Bass Booster are the features which I miss from the iPod. I would GLADLY pay for the mod/hack if someone could create one.

  143. Spammer305, April 20, 2008:

I would like to have a Java TM machine that can actually run Java on the Ipod Touch. So we could view and interact with web pages on the internet.

  144. Stereoskater, April 24, 2008:

    Hey,
i would love something that would let you play runescape and stuff like that on the internet for the touch soo…..work on that plzzzz?

  145. Joe Shmoe, May 20, 2008:

A perfect app mod for iphone/touch would be to add a copy paste method! It makes adding sources to your ipod so much easier. And the idea is pretty simple.

  146. Dwaynee, May 26, 2008:

    Pokemon :D

  147. jed_bello, June 9, 2008:

Im looking for an application that will allow the alarm clock to play your music when it alarms instead of the boring alarm tunes which is in the ipod touch.. any idea?

  150. jboogie, June 29, 2008:

how bout a game online multiplayer game a little more advanced than pong. Maybe for an emulator? so u can play two player online gameboy or snes games? If its too complicated than i guess this device isn’t for gaming. lol

  151. nciel, July 25, 2008:
