1. Download the 1.1.1 firmware

2. After the download has finish put your itouch into recovery mode

3. Now hold shift and click restore(go into itunes)

4. Find the file and double click the 1.1.1 file you download

5. Then wait and let it do its thing

6. Then you should have firmware 1.1.1

7. Now you can jailbreak and install iphone apps (just use my instructions)

(recovery mode)

1. Have your itouch on and connected into your computer or laptop

2. hold the sleep button and the home button

3. But when you the apple let go of the sleep button

4. Then you’ll see a the itouch screen wants you to hook your itouch into your computer

   i’ve given this 2 separate tries now. after i downgrade to firmware 1.1.1 my ipod touch, touch screen doesn’t work. it is virtually a brick in 1.1.1. i have to plug into itunes and upgrade to 1.1.2 for it to be usable again. does anyone else have this problem? (i haven’t read about it anywhere)

   truly unfortunate… i would love to jailbreak this thing, but it appears that i can’t.

    So I finally got the downgrade to work. I had been trying the download through Safari and it somehow unzipped or modified the firmware into a folder with several items as content - that all didn’t work when trying to select it as the restore firmware through iTunes. When I used Firefox to download the package it was downloaded as a single ‘package’ and this single file then worked to select when doing steps 3-4. Hopefully this will help some people out there. Does anyone know why, from a technical aspect, downloading the firmware through Safari is different than downloading it through Firefox?

    I got the download to work in Firefox as well. It’s named “iPod1,1_1.1.1_3A110a_Restore.ipsw”. I can confirm that if you use Safari on OS X, Safari will move the file to the Downloads folder and unpack it into a folder that’s probably not usable for iTunes recover.

    My problem is on step 3. I hold shift while clicking on the first “Restore” button, a new window pops up and simply says I’ll loose all the data and the newest software will be installed. Either I can click “Restore and Update” or “Cancel”. Once again I hold shift, this time while clicking “Restore and Update”. Next screen says I’m downloading 1.1.2. I never get a new window that asks for a file I’ve downloaded.

    Any ideas guys? Thanks.

    Alright i have an ipod touch. When i first connected it to my PC, it had v1.1.2 I’ve spent alot of time trying to downgrade it. I’ve sent it into restore mode and i followed tai’s instructions.     Hey guys if you’re downloading from Safari. Just delete the .zip extension from the file so that it reads iPod1,1_1.1.1_3A110a_Restore.ipsw. The problem is in unzipping the contents of the .zip file.

    Just follow the instructions as posted afetr doing this and the firmware will install just fine.

    I found a way to downgrade without loosing anything and I mean anything. I downloaded the 1.1.1 firmware like was told from this forum and instead of clicking shift and restore I pressed shift and update and it allowed me browse to the file. and i clicked it and it downgraded the firmware to 1.1.1. Altough I did this with the interent switched off it worked like magic and I did not even after to put my ipod touch in restore mode. It automatically did everything for me and downgraded. Itunes started screaming that I should update when it finished and restarted.

    Wow! I am happy.

    Anyone having the trouble of the 1.1.1 firmware through Safari. If you move the .zip file out of the trash and trash the folder that Safari tried to decompress. Then when you hold down option (on a mac) and you select the .zip file in iTunes, iTunes decompresses it for you and begins the install.

    However, when I did that and ran the installer, I get an error and iTunes can’t connect it.

     Hi…i have an 8GB itouch and a Macintosh laptop. I downloaded 1.1.1 firmware…but when i hit option-restore i get a window popping up. I find the firmware folder….but i can’t figure out which thing to click to restore…like there isn’t any plain document saying 1.1.1 firmware…it’s a whole folder with stuff in it that i can’t click :(…please help

     I found this to work for me. I used Mozilla to dl this firmwire and i tried to find it with itune but i couldnt find it anywhere.

     But when i dled with internet explorer, it found it perfectly.
