Although Apple’s latest release of the iPod Touch 3G was not quite as good as it should have been, this little bit of news cheered me up. Apple was rumored to have had manufacturing problems with iPod Touch and was therefore unable to release it with a video camera. PCW reports that a update BY CHRISTMAS may include a this highly coveted Video Camera:

I’ve also heard that Apple wants to have these things in full production by Christmas and that they’ve made only a few months of camera-less models to tide the market over until the new ones are ready.

PCW also offers some more information by hypothesizing that:

The conventional wisdom is that Apple will put the camera into the higher end iPods ($299/$399 – 32GB/64GB) only and leave the $199 model to be a 2nd-gen model. The higher end iPods have the processor speed and the Open GL 2.0 capabilities to do video, the 2nd Gen does not. This is exactly the same pricing/feature structure as exists on the iPhone.

Based on this, my advice is to wait for just a few more months and see what happens.

   After a day of thinking about this, I do not think this is true. Though apple has a history of pissing people off by doing something like this in a past, I doubt they would release a new model mere months after their last one. I reckon they would save this update until at least next september, plus the only reason I would get one with a camera is for the apps that do cool effects using it. I personally would probably not use the camera anyways, and it may increase the fatness of the touch to the iphone’s level. But then again, maybe I am just too anxious to wait. xD

   Does anybody know if the jailbroken Ipod touch can setup to run only one app on boot. I want to use it for a single application and I don’t want it to go to the home page – ever really. Maybe with a special password. But on boot up I want to run program X right away.

   I would think that this is possible based on the ability to get inside the thing to jailbreak it but not being a having the intimate knowledge like the dev team I’m not very sure.

    I think the rumors are completely untrue. If apple wanted to release a camera, they would’ve done it in September. Don’t buy the bull shit that there were manufacturing problems. By releasing the new ipod touches in their condition, Apple made a clear statement that they had not changed anything in their manufacturing lines and didn’t plan to either. The rumors that there’s enough space in the ipod touch to integrate a camera are just silly. Who would want video like the ipod nano? They’re going to want a full functioning 3gs camera. Apple isn’t going to do that however because they make a much higher profit off their iphone 3gs lines than their ipod touches. Apple still has a monopoly over the mp3 and smart phone market, they have no reason to jeopardize their iphone lines by releasing a camera just in time for Christmas. It makes absolutely no marketing sense. What will happen most likely though is them taking the 8gb ipods off the line and replacing them with the 16 gb, or they may just finally update the 8 gb hardware. Ever think of that?

    I thought the camera with the new itouch was already release but apparently i was wrong I really wanted it for christmas this yr if it came out. But people say it was rumors that were leak out and its not true, or they changed it to make the ipod nano have it. If this is true I wish it would come at the beginning of the year.
