So, after a very brief wait and some impressive work by the iPhone Dev team, the 2G 3.0 Jailbreak has arrived. RedSn0w 0.7 can be used for the iPhone 3G, iPod Touch 2G, and the iPod Touch 1G.

Brief Instructions

(I’m currently in Germany and away from my current computer and iPod and can therefore only provide a cursory tutorial)

• Download the 3.0 ipsw either from iTunes for $9.95 or find a torrent online for free. I would recommend just purchasing the firmware for a secure download.
• Restore your iPod normally without updating. This will allow for a clean install and a safer upgrade.
• Then follow the basic instructions in redsn0w. Depending on how many people have trouble with redn0w will determine if I make a more formal tutorial.

   Lots of folks are having issues where this will hang at “downloading firmware” then reboot into a failed state. I personally have had this problem and tried about 15 different variations trying to get it to work to no avail.

   Hey i am about to update my ipod touch 1g. But i have so many apps that i have downloaded through installous. can i sync my apps on to itunes with out having and problems with apple finding out that i get all of my apps through installous? I don’t want to lose all the apps i got which took me a long time to get. i want to atleast save it on itunes but i am afraid of getting in trouble with itunes because i jailbreaked my ipod to download the apps for free. can respond please. before i update.

   SAM> I don’t think there will be any trouble, but make sure to sync all applications or else the sync will not sync your apps. Also, once they are in itunes, you can use the new appsync to sync back after your 3.0 update and subsequent jailbreak, so try not to sync before you jailbreak.

   Jailbreaking steps:
   1. Update to 3.0
   2. Download your copy of redsnow via the iphone dev team blog through their torrent or through mirrors, specifically at http://blog.iphone-dev.org/post/126908912/redsn0w-in-june
   3. Basically just follow whatever it tells you to do in resn0w
   4. Personally, mine kept hanging at ‘waiting for reboot’, and i’m not sure how i fixed it, but i think restoring the ipod does.

   This is already somewhat old news, quite surprised cos i did the jailbreak way before this, and there were already videos on youtube. Again, the authors have failed to update on time, even after their long absence of leave between posts. ‘Depending on how many people have trouble with redn0w will determine if I make a more formal tutorial’ – clearly shows your laziness. Sorry, i’m just extremely disgusted at the rate of updates.

    fr0808 – currently, you are not able to download bosstools for 3.0, cydia apparently checks compatibility with the firmware you are using before letting users download anything. As such, you are not able to use bosstools.

    tony – get the ‘appsync’ package from cydia, you just need the hackulous repository to download it.

    I think there is currently a problem with winterboard themes for keyboard, being that when you apply them on winterboard they do not really apply the theme you have chosen for your iphone/ipod touch. From info on the web, people have stated that this is due to a change of the root location of they keyboard or something, so the application of themes for keyboard does not work.

    Having problems w my 3G 3.0 I just installed redsnow and now my phone starts to reboot w the apple logo then goes to a black screen for a while then restarts itself. It just keeps on doing this. I dont know what to do to make it fully turn on can any one please help me……
