I installed the firmware on my ipod through itunes, but it was the old firmware, not the custom (as i thought the custom was just to get a custom boot logo). MY IPOD IS NOW DEAD. and downloading the official 2.2.1 firmware through itunes, and if this doesn't work i'll be so angry, as these 32gb ipod touches aren't too cheap.
