   Ruairidh, make sure you have libusb. If you do, uninstall it. Now download the libusb installer again, right click it, click propertieses, and set compatibility to windows xp service pack 2.

   Now install it.

    ok. good news. it worked. for some reason i think the custom firms were going corrupt. but now its good. so if anyone keeps getting the 1601 and 1604 just start from the very beginning and rewrite a custom firmware, with a diff logo. at least thats what worked for me.

    Ok i used this twice. Both times, my ipod had frozen and soft bricked. I had to restore it for a third time today. i reccomend waiting for redsn0w’s version this way any and all problems will be fixed.

    the thing is:

    I CAN install apps and all from cydia BUT all my previous apps that I downloaded from torrent files and WERE installed before the QuickFreedom JB can’t be installed anymore as “the item could not be verified” bla bla blaaa

    IM PISSED !!!

    ALL i got now are Free Apps from Appstore and Apps from Cydia, but my games and apps I had before can’t be installed!

    If this is not solved I’m moving to my previous tethered JB, fuck it!

    My Sunday is Fucked Up!

    A tip for some others who might have the same problem I did: My Touch did *NOT* turn white at the pre-jailbreak step. I sat there for 20 minutes waiting for something to happen but it never did. Went back, went forward, tried to pre-jailbreak again…nothing. Finally unplugged & replugged in the iPod and boom, it went white. I think this step should be included in QuickFreedom’s instructions.

    Hi. When I started to install LIBUSB, all the USB ports didn’t work anymore. I had to turn my computer off over and over again while it was spazzing out with errors. finally, it asked if I wanted to uninstall recent downloads.     Just bought the itouch and its my first experience with it and with jailbreaking. Its a shame I cant utilize a single 3rd party app from my PC.

    I had been getting the error that it couldnt make its own firmware. Its a simple fix. Just make Quickfreedom run using XP compatibility. (Rightclick the .exe of quickfreedom, and its in the properties)

    IF YOU GET A POPUP BOX WHEN CREATING CUSTOM FIRMWARE THAT SAYS: ERROR CREATING FIRMWARE DO THIS:
    search quickfreedom on start [vista]
    right click quickfreedom, click properties
    set the compatibility to Windows XP service pack 2
    apply, ok
    find quickfreedom on start again, right click and click run as administrator
    quickfreedom will pop up again, copy firmware and voila, start over and it will work

    I jailbroke my iPod touch 2nd gen 2.2.1 and it’s worked great. I went to jailbreak my friends ( same iPod as me) and it didn’t work it goes into dfu mode I do the shift with restore step then it starts installing the firmware ow whatever but it will pull ip a window that says restoring iPod software. His iPod is black with the white apple logo and a download bar that’s completely full but it never stops downloading… I really need help cause I don’t wantto have to buy him a brandnew iPod!!!!!!!!

    hey all, just thought i would share my experiences with all of you! when i decided to jailbreak my ipod i was chuffed to find out that i could do it for the 2nd gen ipod…. all went well jailbreak went fine until 1 day later i downloaded an app that COMPLETELY SCREWED UP MY IPOD!!!! ok so i installed the app, turned my ipod off to see the results of this new app and when it came time to turn it back on again NOTHING, ZIPPO, ZILCH, my ipod was 100% unresponsive to all forms of resetting and charging, itunes did not recognize the ipod and neither did windows! i tried all forms of resetting i could find on the internet and nothing happened….

    all i am goin to say to you all is be VERY VERY careful when you do this!
    you jailbreak with quickfreedom at your own risk, my advice is to wait for the official Quickpwn and Pwnage tool… it will come out sooner or later and it will be much safer!

    and dont worry i got a new ipod from ”john lewis” which is where i bought my ipod from not from apple so i managed to get a whole brand new ipod NO Questions NOTHING!

    I’ve done azll of the above, more than once I would like to add, I’m in recovery mode now and through quickfreedom it stats that I’ve been jailbbracken & in recovery. When I connect to itunes & click left shift + restore, click on Custom NOR, let it do it’s thing then BING!. Error 1604 again & again & again. I’m running xp pro, and I get stuffed. What do I do now???

    Like others I get the error 1604 when trying to restore the custom firmware in iTunes. Over the past couple of day’s I’ve tried everything I can think of, including various JB apps, etc and the final result is always the same. Mine is a 2nd Gen touch, purchased a couple of days ago down in australia. It came with firmware version 2.2.1 by default.
    Is it possible that Apple have made a recent change that is stuffing the whole process up?

    FYI; Ok fellas / chicks / chicks, I think I have your answer. In quickfreedom, download the 1.1.1 version (the version with a snow flake as the icon); the latest version is what has been giving us a headache for the past few days. Anthony, I know what you’ve gone through. So, download that version, go off the YouTube tutorial http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zsZsK7jtUD8 make sure you follow it to the “T”. After it has done its thing then iTunes will prompt you to sync as previous or as new, try your last sync, it worked for me. If it doesn’t for you select new and you’ll need to install all apps new. Bit of a pain, but better than having a rather expensive paper weight. In the future, CHECK WHICH FIRMWARE VERSION YOUR USING / INSTALLING.

    So, as a follow-up, I got my touch jailbroken, still using quick freedom, doing all the same steps, etc, but on a totally different PC, tho still XP SP3. So all I can think of is that something about my PC, hardware or software, the touch just didn’t like when it came to restoring the custom firmware.
    Mind you, my XP install is over 3 years old now, so its possible that a new clean install would have done the trick, given that the PC which did work, was a very new install.

    Anthony; where I found I went wrong was by using the latest quickfreedom application, try using the older version, run setup as on the youtube clip, and make sure its the version 1.1.1. It sounds like your going through all the hoops I have done, now I’ve just stepped back and did it this way which has got me out of crapville. I only brought my ipod touch 2G last week as well, and my version of xp is at least 4 years old. So try it the way I explained, dont try and upgrade your software / firmware, not at this point.

    Hi Aaron. I had tried version 1.2, 1.1.1 and 1.1.0 on my home PC. Uninstalling, rebooting, you name it. Nothing worked, but then neither did a couple of other JB apps.
    Installed Quickfreedom v1.2 at work, downloaded another copy of the 2.2.1 firmware, but the touch into DFU mode and followed the steps. It all worked, first time, just perfect.
    So all I can think of is that maybe PC hardware and or install age of XP makes a difference.
    So for anyone having problems, try a different PC.

    Okay, so I downloaded the QuickFreedom 1.2.0 and I cannot jailbreak my iPod. Everything is perfect up to the point of installing custom firmware. I made the Custom Firmware, I put the iPod in DFU, I pre-broke it, and it is fine up to the point where I tell iTunes to put “Custom Firmware”. It loads, loads, restores, and then, when it usually says “Restarting iPod” it gives me “Error 13″ or some error 160# something…

    I don’t know what to do, I’ve done this 3-5 times and still the same problem. Any help would be Great!

     so i’ve installed quickfreedom on my xp pro 32 bit. i tried jailbreaking my brandnew ipod touch, but it keeps changing back to recovery mode right before it applies the Redsn0w patch. hence, it says that it is jailbroken, but it’s not. i’ve tried installing other programs on it and they won’t work b/c itunes cannot verify them. any ideas, please?

     it just stops and i dont get the message at step 13 where its like “iPod successfully put into Pre-Jailbreak Mode. Now restore your custom firmware in iTunes. This file is located on your desktop“. I didnt get this message and ive been staring at the screen for 20 minutes. any helpers?

     i got quickfreedom tonight, did all the steps, and when it said the error message on the create firmware stage, i just ignored and went onto itunes. I installed the firmware on my ipod through itunes, but it was the old firmware, not the custom (as i thought the custom was just to get a custom boot logo). MY IPOD IS NOW DEAD. and downloading the official 2.2.1 firmware through itunes, and if this doesn’t work i’ll be so angry, as these 32gb ipod touches aren’t too cheap. DOES ANYONE KNOW WHETHER THIS WILL WORK, AS THIS WILL GIVE ME SOME PEACE OF MIND. PLEASE TAKE 30 SECONDS OUT OF YOUR BUSY DAY TO GIVE A STRANGER SOME PEACE OF MIND.
