An engineer from the LCD industry posted on the apple discussion boards with his opinion on the black screen problems. His thought was that the iPod Touch LCD black level problems are due to the anti-reflective coating that is put on the iPods.
The iPods were probably rushed to the market and the quality control went down and due to this many iPods were shipped that had less then ideal black levels. This would make sense because there have been varying reports on the degree of the issue. It sounds like some people got iPod Touch’s with great screens while others have said that there iPod Touch has awful black levels because of the anti-reflective coating.

lol yes i read it, the blacks are looking more gray than black.. well i guess im a lucky one and didn’t get a defective screen.
Well, the touch was supposed to be released the 28th. That no one finds it strange that the product is available in retail outlets before that intrigues me. I wonder exactly what Apple is up to…
Makes me want to wait to buy….
FYI, Explination is spelled “Explanation”
