There has been a huge amount of traffic the last 3 days from what I am assuming is people receiving the iPod Touch for Christmas and now want to hack it. This is great, but it can be a bit daunting to figure out what you need to do and why you need to do it. This will be a quick FAQ that should answer some common questions. Reply in the comments if you have any other questions or better answers than I have provided.

1. What is Jailbreaking the iPod Touch?

A: Jailbreaking the iPod Touch means that you break the protection apple has installed on the iPod and allow for 3rd party programs to be installed on it. (It is similar to unlocking a cell phone)

2. Why do I need 1.11 installed to Jailbreak?

A: The iPod Touch was released with 1.11 and iPod Touch hackers were able to find a vulnerability and use it to jailbreak the iPod Touch. The newest software version 1.12 has not been hacked but the work around is downgrading to 1.11 and then using the old jailbreak method.

3. How Can I Jailbreak my iPod Touch?

A: Once you have 1.11 installed check out our iPod Touch Jailbreak page. There are multiple methods to jailbreak but the current one posted on 12/01 described in this post is currently the easiest solution.

4. Can I installed iPhone Apps on my iPod Touch?

A: Yes, After you have jailbroken your iPod check the iPhone Apps post.

5. Where can I find applications and games for my iPod Touch?

A: You can find iPod Touch Games and applications with a google search or check out ipodtouchgames.com.

6. Will iPhone Applications work on my iPod Touch?

A: Yes.

   Hi guys! i’m really desperate, i just got and ipod touch and i tried to downgrade to 1.1.1, but after itunes said…unpacking and error apeared “ipod cant be updated”, and in my screen now i see the “conect to itunes” image. I’ve try several times to restore my ipod but i’ve experienced 2 errors…the first one was Error -50, i did the things that apple suggests abut it, and now it appears the following “ipod cant be restored because there isnt enough space”…my itouch is almost new…however i’ve been unable to restore it. I thought that the restoring process was 100% secure but now i realize that it’s not so easy… I would really appreciate the help, i’m writing from venezuela, so there’s no way for me to get help from apple.     FOR A FORGOTTEN PASSCODE:
    **********************

    Plug in your iPod

    Go to “My Computer”

    Go to your iPod’s drive (F for me)

    Make sure you can see all hidden folders (If you aren’t sure go to Tools, Folder Options, View Tab, and check Show)

    After that click iPod_Control

    Click the folder called “Device”

    And then change it from _locked, to _unlocked

    I got the 8g touch and on my old ipod I could go to my computer and see the ipod and view the folder options ex..ipod control, is there a way to do the same on the touch?

    Just purchased 8GB 2nd Gen touch and am having difficulty getting my account information set up properly through itunes. I try to download apps. but keep being told I am not “logged into the itunes store.” Any help??

    Brion just a thought I had the same problem, until I uploaded the newest version 2.2(5G77) from the Apple Website then Itunes would recognize my ipod touch.
