This is a newsletter to all who have subscribed to the iPodTouchHacks mailing list in order to keep up-to-date with everything that has happened in the past month. Without further ado, let us dive into the pool of hacking information.

General Apple News

The month started out with the announcement of the new Macbook Air. Not much of an update, except for the usual faster speeds and sleek design. Nothing big here. Then came a software update for the iMacs, just fixing some bug issues. Other than that, nothing new is coming from the Apple front. They are all set to sell what they’ve got for the upcoming Christmas season.

iPod Touch Updates and News

Rooster posted a whole lot of tips and tricks that help out anyone owning an iPod Touch or iPhone. Some of them are pretty easy to figure out on your own (double clicking home to bring up the music shortcut), while some of them were news to some people (holding a letter on the keyboard to bring up extra symbols).

The big iPod/iPhone news was the update to 2.2. This update was heeded with a warning to wait for a jailbreak (which will be covered later), but the update did bring u p some new experiences for the user. A big change was the ability to download podcasts over WiFi, 2g, or 3g network. For iPhone users, voicemail bugs were fixed to enable a more fluid experience. The most awaited change was StreetView enabled in the Maps application, which is good for iPhone users (and for jailbroken iPod Touch usres). The App Store has also been updated, making it easier to fing apps and see categories. Also, the ability to rate apps has been brought to the devices. Autocorrect has also been enabled to turn off, depending on user preference. Overall, the update seems to make the device run much faster and with less bugs.

Jailbreaking News

WinPwn has not had any updates, other than stating that they need to update. ZiPhone also lacks any evidence of actually working on a jailbreak for the new firmware. The big updates are from the iPhone Dev Team. They have started having success with unlocking the 3G iPhone, but have not publically released any programs or instructions to do it. With the new firmware 2.2, most people were awaiting the okay to update so that a jailbreak would be possible. Only a couple of days later, and there was the jailbreak. Much like previous iPhone Dev Team releases, this jailbreak method used QuickPwn. Popular App Repo Hoster TheBigBoss was also reported to approve this jailbreaking method, and advised staying away from other methods such as RipDev’s “Pusher”, saying it is unsafe and might contain bu gs and problems
