I have just got the apple universal dock and the apple component cable yesterday, and I already have an ihome2go and all of these are AWESOME. I also have the apple in ear headphones but they are not comfortable, do not really fit, and look really stupid when you try to put them in all the way. I do not recomment them. Does anyone know what I am missing?

I've got a pair of external speakers for the iPod (~$15) and a Boostaroo portable amplifier ($30) from ThinkGeek. They work really well when you want to watch a movie or a youtube video and cant/don't want to share the headphones.

I picked up a cheap small $5 speaker last night, it's awful quality, but gets the job done when you want to show a friend a you tubevideo.

I am using the Apple In-Ear headphones, and they work GREAT. The noise canceling feature is really nice.
If I were you, I would get the Component AV Cable from Apple and a Universal Dock. The two together are a great combo.
