Thanks. Just a note. customize 2 is now in public beta and is 100% 1.1.4 compatible so the customize tips are no longer necessary. you might also want to declare this as a post. Written from my ipod.

Awesome post to clear up the main issues =)
Just a little comment about Summerboard, based on my own experience. It didn’t work on my 1.1.4 although I made it active. It only managed to work after i chmod +x and chmod +s it in WinSCP.
I just thought that if anyone else had a problem even after making it active, you can add those two commands to the post. =)

You can’t COMPLETELY screw up your iPod…unless you drop it in water or something. If you get into things that you can’t figure out and a buncha errors show up, just do a hard reset. The hard reset works all the time. Hope all goes well!

And even if the hard reset doesn’t do it for you, put it into recovery mode, and then boot it back up with iPhuc.
Or just restore it. =) Plenty of alternatives.

for the customize 1.1.4 problem i’ve got another solution:
add this source: http://www.clubifone.com/repo.xml and download the package called: customize 1.1.4 inside the folder called clubifone-fix. its a modifided version that works perfectly made by a spanish guy. dont worry everything is in english -

If it just keeps crashing, you have to go on Installer and get the SUID Lib Fix, which should be located in the “Tweaks (1.1.4)” folder. Also, turn on and off your iPod. This should fix your problem. Hope all goes well!

Yeah. Download iLiberty+, rejailbreak with the option ‘fix you tube error’
Don’t know if ZiPhone has such a button.

Let it crash a few times (maximum about 5 times). It crashes because it is creating the necessary folders on the ipod for the app to run. Its just something within the app that does not let it create folders without crashing.
However, if the app continues to crash after about 3 -5 times, then do what rawks said about the suid fix. =)

If you’re using Customize, you would have to download the theme you want. Then on the bottom of that theme you downloaded, you just click “apply theme to device.” That should do the trick! Hope all goes well!

Yeah, you go to Installer and go to Themes (Customize) and download the themes. If you have done the symlinking right, they will show up in the proper folders in Customize.

hey RAWKS! (wanted to get your attention)
Maybe you should add in the ‘keyboard freeze’ section here that if you went into installer before going into contacts, you’ll most probably have to rejailbreak and redo the typing nonsense thing.
Because most of the time, once you’ve gone into installer (before the 10 secs typing) there is might be little chance that going into contacts will work.

if i get tired of running summerboard for my themes and i wanna use costumize do i have to uninstall summerboard first?
also i installed bosstools and clicked relocate apps and fonts after i already had a few apps installed so i was wondering if that still frees up space.

You need to rejailbreak, unfortunately. Its the only way to fix the freezing keyboard. Rejailbreak and follow the instructions on this page.
At newtouchowner:
no, you dont have to uninstall summerboard. But customize at the moment doesn’t have the ability to change themes unless you have 2.0.

When i go into any application the screen will freeze, cant hit home to go back i have to do a hard restart… thought it was the keyboard freeze so i went into contact to fix it but the contact app froze, so does anybody know why all my apps are freezing ?

I have a problem similar to daltz….whenever i try any application even Music, Contacts, calendar, etc. it ends up freezing. I try to go back home but it still hangs and ends up restarting on me. Anyone know how to fix this?

My problem is none of these. I an install everything fine however once I have updated my installer it freezes, and does not unfreeze. The only way out is to restart my ipiod however once re entering installer the same problem happens again.

I have the 16G iPod Touch and EVERYTHING keeps freezing on my iPod. I read the part about the keyboard freezing, so I tried going to the contacts section, but it didn’t do anything. Every time I try to click on the “Install” button, my iPod freezes. I use the reset buttons (Home+Top Button) but as soon as I turn it back on and try to click on the Install button again, it freezes. Could this possibly be because I bought my iPod back in November?

Hey- I did the ziphone hack and it seemed like it worked but now my ipod touch shows the “connect to itunes” screen and when I connect it itunes says it cannot because of an unknown error. Please help! I don’t know how I can fix it.

Obviously, the iliberty+ jailbreak for 1.1.4. needs some serious work. I also am experiencing the freezing problems. I’m reading countless ‘fixes’ such as the contact fix, the boss tools fix, etc, but why doesn’t someone program a jailbreak that takes care of all that in the first place? I just wasted 3 hours installing sources and apps and now nothing works and I have to restore it back to normal. I should have listened to the Apple store guy and left it alone!

for those who cannot reboot or charge there ipod:
1: click start then search
2: type in “Apple Mobile Device
3: click on “Apple Mobile Device Support (3rd one down on list 12,000kb)
4: click on Repair file
5: restart itunes
your ipod should now appear in itunes
if after you restore your ipod itunes says (insert sim in your iphone) ignore this an just restart itunes your ipod should be fully restored

Hey Guys, tried restarting but nothing will work. i can switch my itouch off holding the power and home button. but when i start it. a lot of writeing scrools down after the apple sign goes away like a script from dos .. then stops and gives me an error message. i dont know what to do. because when i connect it to the usb it does not even turn up on itunes anymore. i have no clue what to do… please help me.

Ok, look. I already restored the iPod Touch. But then I had to do the hard reset. After that, it showed up with “iTunes has detected an iPod in recovery mode. You must restore this iPod before it can be used with iTunes. So I click restore, and it says preparing to restore iPod. But then it says “The iPod could not be restored. An unknown error occured.(1604)”. I don’t know what to do, please help!

The same thing happened to me four months ago. Make sure that when you are resetting it, that you are holding down both the power and the home button at the same time until the image of the iTunes logo and the dock connector shows up. Then restore it on iTunes, it may not show up on iTunes, so you may have to click on the windows start button then search. Search for “Apple Mobile Device”. Then it should show up in iTunes, I’m not sure though. Haven’t tried it yet. -

Try a Hard Reset, if you haven’t yet, that may work. -
I loaded ZiPhone onto my 32gb iPod Touch. The sleep/wake button no longer works, not even if i restore it (it only stopped working after i jailbroke it). at the moment it is jailbroken, however, the Touch only turns on all the way when plugged in. Otherwise it shows the apple logo for a couple seconds and turns off. When i try to reset it, it doesn’t work. it just turns off.

I just installed ziphone… installed only a bit applications, last one caught my attention is the one with the calender edit (it says ” warning: this will change the applications to default setting”…something like that )
and I have a few other things on my home ….but when I quit the place and go to home, it shows the “setting language” and froze completely like that………. can’t turn it off or anything until the battery runs out. I rechared it a bit and restart again, little apple white logo starting pic showed up, the little loading circle showed up and froze there again……………………………..once again wait for battery runs out
what should I do now? TT-TT, I never really wanted to jailhack it but others promote me to do it….T=T

SO on the BSD root error. do u hold the home and sleep button till it turns on agian or do start it up regular??? I had this problem and im not to sure about that because i would turn my on with the ipod connected to the comp. and the itunes plug in logo would not show up and just keep saying the BSD root error.

I have an ipod touch 1.1.1 i bought already hacked. My daughter thinking she was doing something nice for me bought a cd and put it on itunes. she was going to sync my ipod and when it told her to update it to 1.1.4 she did. now i have lost everything on my ipod and my computer and itunes does not recognize my ipod. i have tried the manual restore holeding the home and power button until the apple logog appears and still nothing can you help?

I have a 16 g Touch, when trying to do the jailbreak I got a business call and got side tracked, now my itunes doesnt show my touch whens its connected to my laptop, hence i cant restore it, my ipod shows the apple sign when it first starts then keeps reading BSD root: md0, major2, minor0, over and over again. I tried a hard restart, holding down both power and home button, but nothing and I dont know how to locate the touch on my laptop without it regestering with itunes…. not too savoy with my electronics just additied to nice top notch gadets sorry…. anyone who has patients to help thank you SO MUCH and thank you for taking the time to read this, have a nice day/nite

Tap power and home together. The screen goes black and when the apple logo apears leave only the power button
keep holding the home button until the iTunes message for connection apears.Run the itunes make the restore and so on… -
I tried top hack my ipod touch using the ziphone.org I was in the process of hacking and it was taking a long time. There was a warning that said if it takes longer than 3 minutes please dissconnect and try again. I tried again and my ipod did not show up on itunes. IU tried resetiing it using both buttons and it just turns off anf turns on showing screen in white letters.
I reaaly need some help to solve this. All i want is my regular itouch back no hacks.

When you do the hard reset make sure to hold down all buttons til it shuts off. Keep holding them down while it starts up again (should have the Apple logo). Keep holding until you get the “connect to itunes” screen…then you can restart and restore. Hope all goes well!

I’ve read through most of the comments (I got to about 300) I know one of the answers to my question is there, but I think my eyes will burn if I have to look through that many again, so I apologize for the repeat question and please help me out.
I have the 8GB iPod touch, and I just jailbroke it last night, and now:
Every app won’t return when I press the home button.
The apps freeze as soon as the keyboard appears (I can’t type in the Contacts app)
And there is an Error 1602 every time I try to restore.Any solutions would be greatly appreciated!

I have the ipod touch 8GB and I installed the Ziphone and while something was downloading I unplugged it. A screen with the top of the charger popped up and an arrow pointing to the itunes symbol. It will not go any farther then that. So in other words it is frozen at that screen. It WILL turn on and off but when I turn it back on and after the apple symbol dissappears the screen that it freezes at comes up. I was wondering if my itouch is permanetly frozen and I have to exchange it and get a new one or if I have to take it onto and apple store or if you could help me fix it. I would rather have help from you because I am 14 and if my parents have to take me to get ANOTHER itouch becuse I wrecked this one I will be in trouble. PLEASE HELP!!!

A good way to keep your battery life is to turn off wi-fi when you don’t use it. Also, you can adjust the brightness of your screen. Hope all goes well!

Ziphone is one of the few methods of jailbreaking your device. It could either be for ipod touch or iphones. The percentage is 50/50 cause some people get problems and some people don’t. If you haven’t done anything yet, I recommend using WinPwn.

When errors appear, means the host/source is not working or it’s down. Also, clear out your queue to get it working.

…Nice name…haha. Anyways…you would have to do a hard reset and re-do it. Some people that used certain jailbreaks come across this problem. Try using WinPwn, which is supposedly said to fix the bugs that Ziphone or iLiberty do.

Hey, I am using a 16gb ipod touch 1.1.4. I had the keyboard issue where it freezes but when i tried the contacts method it would let me type then after i hit cancel twice it freezes and wont let me hit home and i end up having to reboot it.

I have succesfully “jailbroken” my 8GB iPod Touch! I have a problem which I have not yet found the solutiong to. On the “start up” screen where you have to “slide to unlock” the graphic that you physically slide across has disappeared. I can still open the iPod; it still slides across, but I’m sliding nothing. hey um i think u know about the jailbreaking app called ziPhone well i used it and jailbreaked my itouch. I installed snes and it was on my homescreen but alot of my other icons disapeared and i don’t know where they went and i can’t access them and i had so many great apps and lots of music and do not want to reboot cause i don’t even have all the music on my comp anymore. it says i still have all the apps but i just don’t know where they would be at. i tried restarting my ipod but that didn’t work, so i don’t know what to do ill tell you all the ones i had the aren’t there anymore and all the ones that are.

For those having the keyboard freeze problem, i suggest doing a hard restore, then using winpwn following the directions on this site: http://www.ipodtouchhacks.com/uncategorized/detailed-instructions-on-how-to-use-winpwn/ . worked like a charm for me. now i can live happy again. you may need to download the .net framwork 2,0 in order for winpwn to work tho.

I jailbroke my itouch, and it froze, so i did a hard reset. But now It’s on the Apple logo, with the little circular loading icon in the middle, and it beeps every couple of seconds.

This is a problem I don’t really care about I just want to know if it can be fixed. So I was using custom, which is a bad program, and I started to use summerboard instead. So I uninstalled custom and then I noticed the lock screen wallpaper is still the same as before. So I tryed to change it useing setting but nothing happens. Thanks for the post. There is 1 problem that I had though. When i accidentally unplugged the ipod touch from the computer, while the white letters scroll down, they still kept scrolling. Will this eventually stop? The Latest info scrolling many times was ” BSD root: md0, major 2, minor 0″ I would really appreciate it if you could help me. Thank you!

I am having a major problem, accidentally unplugged my Ipod from the computer while it was doing it’s thing. At first it runs good, but then repeats ” BSD root: md0, major 2, minor 0?. I tried doing the hard reset and it still does the same thing. It also won’t connect to my Itunes which would be pretty obvious, therefore can’t restore it. i didnt restore ipod before using ziphone and while it was loading ziphone, itunes had a screen that said ipod is in recovery. i clicked ok then exited itunes. then my ipod froze. after 3 minutes i cancelled ziphone and disconnected ipod. now its frozen. it wont do anything and computer doesnt detect?!?!?!?!?

I am having a problem with my iPod touch 16 gig…it tells me i need to restore the iPod, so i do and then when its about 80% complete, it comes up with the icon to reconnect my iPod to my computer….it has done this repeatedly and now i cant get into my iPod at all…that logo just stays up there when its on. I’ve tried a few of the solutions listed about and nothing seems to work. Any advice? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

hi my ipodtouch (1.2.0) was being jailbreaked with winpwn and in the middle of it being pwned it froze and now my ipod doesn’t turn on and it doesn have any buttons working…i can get it into itunes in dfu mode but only for about 2 mins…the screen is constantly black and turns white when in dfu mode but only for about 7 secs… PLZ help i have tried everything

Ok i have an IPOD Touch 32GB which was running on v1.1.4 jailbroken. However, i used the WinPWN utility and accidentally ran the IPhone version of the V1.1.4 firmware. Currently i am encountering the screen being constantly black and turns white when in dfu mode but only for about 7 secs.
Attempts to restore the via ITunes (latest version 7.7.1) with the IPOD touch firmware version 1.1.4 and 2.0.0 is just futile since i am encountering Unknown error (5). My IPOD is presently identified as an Iphone on ITUNES. I need help! Please let me know. -

After updating my ipod touch to firmware 2.0 from ipod touch firmware 1.1.4 there seems to be a straight line about a half a centimeter thick going down the right side of my ipod where the touch pad or whatever its called will not work. this makes it difficult to scroll my sidebar over to even get my ipod on the home screen, i cant play games on it cuz the touch pad does not work correctly and i also cant use the keyboard on my ipod becase some of the letters will not get pressed due to this sensor issue. i downgraded my ipod back to firmware 1.1.4 hoping that this would solve the problem, it didnt, i still have an ipod touch that does not fully work on the touch part of it and ive run out of ideas, i need help. please help me.

hi guys can anyone help me please. im jailbreaking my ipod touch 16gb all goes well, im putting some apps on it and its running all smooth, when i unplug it from the laptop and switch it off and then switch it back on it goes all wron again, all the white txt scrolls through again and at the end it says:

Help Please!! Just jailbroke my girlfriends new touch and downloaded a few games and apps, however when we went to listen to music there was no sound! Any way this could have occured from the hack or does anyone know why this happened?? Also, will updating to version 2.0.2 fix it or will this just erase all the hacks and games etc.

I am having a problem with my touch! please someone help…
I bought a new 8gb touch, jail broken it with firmware 1.14, about 3 mnths ago.
the problem: battery just dies after about an ONE HOUR of playing mp3′s only
I normally charge it for about 3-4 hours. i have tried charging on the computer and the wall jack. same thing happens: battery dies in an hour
I brought it to genius bar and they said the battery was fine and its probably the added games but i uninstalled just about everything, even the sources. And still the battery dies in an hour with just playing mp3′s
should I just format and install firmware 1.15?
please, anybody, give me some advice on how I can fix this problem..

Hey everyone, trying to install .IPA ‘s . My problem is i can not find the ‘mobileinstallation.framework’ or whatever the file is inside of the file ‘root/system/library/privateframeworks’ . I am using winscp and can only see about 5 folders, none of which are the above folder needed to modify file inside. Help please i have been searching for an answer for a couple days now and i seem to be the only one experiencing this issue.

Decided to jailbreak my itouch but with another method. But it went wrong and while the white script was on my ipod it said please disconnect and try again because something didn’t work so i did disconnect with the white script on the screen and now the white script is just their and won.t connect to the computer or show up on itunes,. i tried reseting the itouch by holding both buttons but the white writing remains when the ipod reboot’s itself any ideas??

I just upgraded to iPod1,1_2.2.1_5H11_Restore.ipsw and I’m having the same problem; “Firmware Error String”. Did some research and haven’t really found any recent solutions to the problem. My ipod touch is 1g. Maybe the latest update isn’t hackable?

If u try to jailbreack i phone or i touch try Qwickpwn.com youll find all u need how to downgrade from 2.2.1 to 2.2 is better that way try i did that to mine i downgraded in itunes by pressing shift and restore wich youl hold down till restore is done you need to erase iPod1,1_2.2.1_5H11_ and copy the ipod 1,1_2.2_ get it from quickpwn site that should do it

I’ve had my ipod touch jailbroken for awhile now. But a couple months ago, I accidentally screwed it up, long story, so I had to click the “restore settings” button on itunes…where it says if you are expierencing problems with your ipod…blah blah blah.
So I clicked that, and my ipod went from 1.1.4 to 1.1.5….?
And now when I try to reinstall some apps, like summerboard for example, it says that I need to have 1.1.1/1.1.3 or higher to download summerboard even thought I have 1.1.5….?
Anybody know what’s up or how to fix this?

Hey, I have no idea what the hell is going on with this thing. I jailbroke my brother’s iPod touch 8g with ZiPhone and it was flawless. So after getting my own 16g, I tried to jailbreak it.
It just keeps saying “BSD root: md0, major 2, minor 0″
Holding down the on/off button will not do anything, I am unable to turn off my iPod.
It also won’t show up when connected, through iTunes OR ZiPhone.HELP.

alright, so i was on my itouch using facebook, then it froze and when i pressed the home button it wouldn’t work it just stayed on the screen so i figured okay maybe ill just restart it.

Cydia won’t work. I have a touch that is jail broken. I bought it second hand and it was already jailbroken. When I active cydia it loads for a second and then goes back to the ipod menu. hey shisno i have the same problem i used quickpwn and it sayed on the computer screen that it was finished and that i had to restart my ipod touch i have a 8 gb 1st gen and it has an apple on the screen and thats it the hard reset doesnt work when it runs out of battery i can still charge it but itunes says that it cant connect to it….then if u can help me fix that….are u supposed to erase all the stuff on ur ipod before running a jailbreaking program?

i have two problems, im using a mac 10.4.11
problems…
1.with redsn0w it always closes when i click “next” after i choose the .ipsw file for iPod touch 2g 3.0.
2. with pwnage tool it says wrong firmware bundle on expert mode and on simple mode it cant recognize my .ipsw file for iPod touch 2g 3.0.if you have help plzzzzzzz send an e-mail to sohail.bagheri@hotmail.com

My wifes ipod touch was shot coming form the factory. It would run for about 2 hours at a time and then turn to a brick. We have a return authorization, but cannot do a hard reset through itunes as the ipod crashed her computer during one of the restores and we are waiting on repair. Is there a way to do a hard reset to wipe out all personal info without connecting to itunes? Will the home & sleep button resotre also wipe out the personal data?

Peter,just turn off your device,press the home button for about 10-20 sec and then plug in the usb cable…and keep the home button pressed..now your device will get to recovery mode,and itunes will open on your computer saying thet your ipod/iphone cannot be synced w/out restore…press shift,keep it pressed an press the restore button on itunes…now it will ask 4 a .ipsw file for your device…choose the fw file in your computer and your device will turn on in minutes…now you can easily jailbreak your device from QuickPwn…thats the best app to jailbreak your device…

Every few days i have to fully restore my Ipod touch after using blackra1n. Usually after i’ve fallen asleep listening to something, and put it into standby then gone to bed. when i wake up and turn it on i get the connect to itunes icon, and have to fully restore,. As i can’t see the battery level when it’s knackered, it might be when the battery dies, although it always turns back on and tells me to restore!

Avenger, it doenst work with winterboard only, you need to install iacces from http://iacces.com/apt/ (dont know of there must thant www or not) but with the new iacces (4.0) cant you set a theme before you pay 15 euro to the developers. But dont go change something with openssh or iphonebrowser than your keyboard crashes (i had that 2 times on my new ipod touch 3g) This is really the only way i has search for other options, the all doenst work on the new 3.1.2 firmware

Well i had a firmware of 3.1.2 and i could jailbreak it but when it ran out of power my ipod was wiped and when i went to itunes all it said was restore and update(to 3.1.2) so i had to update it and now i cant get it back to 3.1.2. now i cant and i keep trying to downgrade it but it wont work it says its not compatible with my ipod if you could would you send to me or post here what i should or could do because i am kind of stuck at the moment.

I upgraded to 3.1.3 on my 1st Gen 32g Touch. Ever since it just displays the USB cable and Itunes screen. Ive tried a complete shutdown and resore and it keeps on coming up error 14. Have taken it to Apple but they say device has software issue and they cannot heklp. One guy their said I need to reset the hardware and they couldnt do it. He said read a coupe of forums as I may need to jailbreak but tats not authorised by them. Im no “Techy” and dont know what to do…….. can anyone give me some pointers please.

Hi, i recently downloaded a jailbreak system and when i took it off the ipod it froze. so i turned it off. when i turned it back on it freezes when the apple logo comes on the logo is a circle with the lines around it. therefore it won’t do anything and i’ve tried restarting it but this come up every time. The version of my ipod is 3.1.2 and i did Blackra1n on it. it froze and i held down the power and home button it succesfully turned off but sense im using a 3G ipod touch i have to run blackra1n through it again so i hurry and download it but when i press “make it rain” a pop up comes up and says this “The program can’t start becuase ASL.dll is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem” ive reinstalled it various of times and yet it still gives me the hassle of that stupid pop up. i tried to restore it but it says my ipod is not eligable and its making me frustrated! please respond anyone with help. Ive tried to even run ‘spirit’ on it and it doesnt connect. I downloaded Blackra1n from the website and it still doesnt work!

IF ALL ATTEMPTS TO GET REDN0W TO JB YOUR PHONE FAIL OR FREEZE TRY THIS IS I SOLUTION that worked for me. when you first open redsn0w try opening task manager right click on redsn0w under the aplications, click on go to process, again right click and select set affininty set this to only processor 1 not zero not 2 not 3 only 1 you will have to do this each time you start redsn0w also use on xp sp2 compatibility and open as administrator if you folow all of these it should be flawless for you as long as your timing in redsn0w is good. hope it helps

I was wondering if someone could help me. My son has an iPod Touch and he jailbroke it. He started having issues with the device and did a hard restore on it. Now it’s goes to the apple screen, to the skull screen and just stays there. It won’t do nothing. My iTunes won’t pick up on the device either. I want to restore it to factory settings and kick his a$$ for screwing the iPod up I paid good money for. Is there any way to fix it?
