iJailBreak Releases Version Compatible with 1.1.4 for 8gb Touch

Author : kdollar

Today, iJailBreak released a new version which will allow you to jailbreak from 1.1.4.  That’s right, no more downgrading and upgrading anymore.  This process is very simple and only takes a few minutes.  However, there is a bit of a catch.  Since it uses the ZiPhone Jailbreaking method, it is only supported on the 8GB iPod Touch.  This, however, hasn’t stopped many who own the 16GB Touch to give it a try.

In some cases even the 16GB iPod Touch works, but this is by no way guaranteed.  I would expect to see a new version released soon for the 16GB iPod Touch, but for those of you who have the 8GB iPod Touch, you can jailbreak now!  Simply download iJailbreak and let the program do the rest.  It is very simple, so don’t worry.  One thing worth noting is that this version does not install the App Pack, so you will have to get that as well.

    Hi,
I have a 16gb Touch. If I try the iJailbreak, what is the worst that can happen? Will I have to restore, or will it just not work?

  3. jh, March 1, 2008:

You MAY have to restore, that is the absolute worst.

  4. kdollar, March 2, 2008:

Let me know if anyone tries it with their 16gb touch. I will update the post…Also, I am sure soon there will be a new jailbreak method for 1.14 for the 16gb so if you are worried just wait.

how do i get the application on my ipod touch?

  6. a, March 2, 2008:

    It worked with my 16gb

  7. b, March 2, 2008:

I don’t know either, how to put it on my iPod.

  8. Joe, March 2, 2008:

I just did it with my 8GB touch with the $20 software upgrade, and now its all screwed up. It’s showing me the “connect to iTunes” symbol when I turn it on, but when I go to connect it to iTunes, iTunes tells me there’s an error connecting to my iPod. I don’t know what to do. Did this happen to anyone else?

  9. Joe, March 2, 2008:

it was error 0xE8000022 if that helps.

This worked for me on an 8 gig and 16gig. If it messes up just force restore it and do it again. Make sure that you restore and install 1.1.4. It tends to have more problems if you upgrade a jailbroken 1.1.3 to 1.1.4 and then do it.

    I hope that helps.

    how do you work this????

  12. Joe, March 2, 2008:

But I can’t restore it, because my computer (and other computers) won’t recognize the iPod. and it wasn’t jailbroken before I upgraded it. However, it did have the software upgrade, could that have been the problem?

  13. iPod Newbie, March 3, 2008:

Hi I’ve just bought the 32 gigs one, will it worked with this version as well?

  14. Vitus, March 3, 2008:

I have the same problem as Joe. error 0xE8000022. at least I can restore my 8gb touch.
whats the problem? anyone can help?

to fix the 0xe8… error do this
    mac at bottom
    WINDOWS:
To easily restore, you need to enter DFU mode..

    Connect your iPod to iTunes.
    Hold down Power and Home.
After the iPod turns off, wait 1 second, then release the Power button, still holding the home button.
Wait about 15 seconds, give or take.
iTunes should recognise an iPod in recovery mode, even though you will see nothing on your iPod’s screen.
Shift + Restore to a firmware of your choice.
MAC: only dif between mac and win is hold option instead

oh, right. I forgot about that way….

  17. Joe, March 4, 2008:

Vitus, I’m just wondering, did you have the $20 iTunes software update installed on your iPod?

  18. Joe, March 4, 2008:

Has anyone else here had the $20 software upgrade from iTunes installed on their iPod and then had to restore it? Could you get the upgrade back? If so, how did you do it?

  19. rick, March 4, 2008:

    Hey Joe,

I have the 16gb iPod Touch.

I paid for the $20 software upgrade from iTunes and have successfully restored it several times (the apps are copied back to your iTouch when you sync, but you lose the jailbreak).

I believe that you are able to download the apps or similar apps to them outside of iTunes from one of the source repositories.

And I speak from experience that you can pretty much force-restore it as many times as you need to. I’ve gone through the jailbreak process at least 20 times, and have been able to restore and get things back to where they were before.

You do have to copy over all of your content after a restore.

1.1.1 and 1.1.2 Jailbreaks were the most stable, but I couldn’t leave well enough alone and had to muck with it!

Since then I have Jailbroken 1.1.3 as well.

1.1.4 is a challenge, but now that something’s been developed, I will try at home tonight (sadly, we can’t connect personal equipment to our work computers).

    Cheers!

    /r

I did it with my 8 GB 1.1.4 Touch and it worked fine. Except when it finished it stayed in Recovery Mode and I had to force restore and it un did the jail break (I think). What do I do?

After that how do I get an App Pack??????

  21. Joe, March 5, 2008:

    Rick,
That works great if you have access to the computer that you used to install the software upgrade, which I do not, so I am going to the Apple Store tomorrow to see what they can do for me there. Hopfully, they won’t realize that my iPod has been jailbroken in the past. =]

  22. zach, March 5, 2008:

  24. pesterbat, March 7, 2008:

I decided to attempt it with my 16 gb touch and now it’s stuck – all I’ve got is line after line of “BSD root: md0, major 2, minor 0″. I’ve attempted to restore, but after it restarts it just restarts the script again (at least that’s what I assume is happening). Any advice, anyone?

  25. Lonman06, March 7, 2008:

If you are getting the BSD error, this will get you by it:

  26. smiley, March 7, 2008:

    Pesterbat:
to restore, do the following exactly:
Start Itunes and plug the ipod in.
With the ipod powered on, hold both the POWER and HOME buttons for seven seconds. The screen should turn black.
Wait two seconds while the screen is black and release the POWER button while still holding the HOME button.
The Screen will remain black, but after a few seconds (mine took 15 seconds) Itunes will detect the phone in recovery mode.

Mine did the same thing, and I keep trying. One more time and I am going to call it quites.
    Good Luck
