I am currently looking for a case for my iPod Touch. What is everyone using at the moment? I don’t want anything to add much thickness to the iPod. I am leaning towards just having something to protect the front screen…so basically it would only protect from scratches. Though, if there was something that protects the iPod Touch more without adding to much to the bulkiness I would be interested.

Of course… currently… nothing… there are no cases out right now for the iPod touch. There is of course there is the Crystal Clear stickers that you can put over the screen, but for some reason, I don’t feel good about putting something over a device that uses the touch screen.
Other sites have put the iPod touch screen through some rigorous unscientific testing, like trying to scratch it with some keys. The iPod touch passed the test.
I’m looking towards the Griffin iClear or the Griffin Reflect. I think the little bulk will feel better in my hands. Although I love how thin it is, I feel like I can probably drop it anytime.
I am carrying it around in the middle pocket of my Urban Tool Gadget Hip Holster - reviewed some months back on my site. The big pocket has my N800.
I protect my iPod touch with the screen protector. There’s nothing out for the iPod touch, so I bought the screen protector for the iPhone. I just had to trim the top side a little bit, but it works well. No scracthes and it doesn’t make it bulkier.
i dont know why you would want to protect the screen, its glass, and so far, like patrick said, it hasnt scratched. its the chrome back of mine that im worried about, ive only had it since monday and its already in pretty poor shape.
As Patrick mentions, Griffin is coming out with some cases for the iPod touch. If you go on a search engine and type in “ipod touch cases,” go on the Griffin website. There’s maybe 1 case on sale already, but the rest are coming soon. The cases are going to add bulk, but you need the bulk to protect your iPod.
Based on reviews & comments, more worried about scratching up the back, so ordered a decorative skin, for under $10 delivered. Would rather get one of the clear armor/shields, but they want closer to $25, and you can’t order just the back, so using this as a stopgap … seems sufficient, for the moment.
I just sewed up a little bag made from yellow flannel. It was a polishing cloth, so I don’t absolutely have to carry around the Apple cloth. This at least protects it from scratches while in my pocket, even though I do not place anything in my pocket with it!
Im just using the iPod socks:
http://www.apple.com/ipod/accessories/
They are great because when you want to use the iPod, if you have no clean surface to lay the device on, you always have the sock to use so as not to scratch it. They also protect it if its in your pocket or backpack or whatever while not adding to the overall thickness too much when they are on.
I have thought about this for about the last week. I have stressed about this a lot and I have gotten into the habit of keeping it in my left pocket all by its lonesome. Now, I am so sick of worrying about it that I am about to smack one of the 20 or so Apple stickers I have ,that come with their products and have never used, onto the back of it and let it scratch away. (I don’t think that the screen will scratch so easy because it is glass) It is getting to the point that I am obsessing and it sux! I am a huge Apple follower and the more that I stress about the scratches the more I get mad at them now (for the first time ever) for not putting the same back as the iPhone on the iPod Touch. Damn the man!
p.s. those of you that have not read the other blogs on the net about the iPod Touch and want a cool way to enter notes. Go to your Contacts and add “A Note Pad” as a contact and add a field for notes. That way it is at the top of your contacts and you can easily add notes. Sucks to have to work around Apples new marketing strategies but it works like a charm.
The invisible shield is the perfect option for you if you want to protect your screen. I just got mine in the mail today. It is thin, crystal clear, scratch proof and specifically designed to fit the iPod Touch. Military helicopters use the same material to protect the blades.

I use the invisible shield for the screen and i think i will get one of the Griffin “iClear” hard-shell case’s when they are released.

I bought a pelican micro 1010 case, with an iPod foam, with the iPod touch holder from the original packaging. its kind of big and bulky, about the size of 5 iPod Touch’s ontop of each other. But the case is watertight, dustproof, crush resistant, shock resistant and automatically adjusts air pressure inside the case to the world on the outside. The case total was about $20. Pelican’s motto is You break it, we replace it…forever.
find the case here. http://www.pelicanproducts.us/Detailaspx5.html
What i am using is the case that came with the 5g video ipod, i think its great for the touch. I wonder why apple didnt include it with this one, guess theyre getting cheaper and cheaper with every generation of ipod
i could care less about the screen, it the chrome back im worried about. glass withstands much more than fake chrome
i totally agree with you josh, the chrome is dodgy and the part that needs most protection, the screen can wait!

I have a terribly high tech solution of wrapping it in a lens cloth and wrapping the earbud cords around that. I’ve had mine a couple weeks and the back is a bit scratched to hell already, and have actually dropped it once (terrifying moment) onto a cement floor, got a teeny almost imperceptible chip in the very edge of the metal on the corner. Amazon has a few touch cases listed, but some of them look like they’re just iPhone cases with the descriptions tweaked.
i was thinking about going here to get one as they look to be in stock. (well…yeah, they look like there in stock):

Shrink Wrap it.
I found a $9.99 Fred Meyer “Case Logic” stretchy padded case that fits my Touch quite nicely. It stretches right over the top of the Touch.
Another vote for invisible shield, I didn’t use mine until I got it (very hard couple of days!) and it is PERFECT. The film doesn’t interfere at all with the touch screen, but for you purists out there you could just choose to use it on the back only, just my .02
To those who’ve recommended the Invisible Shield, how does the shield work with the touch screen.
Have you noticed any problems using it with a thin film on top of it? I know nothing about touch screen technology but I would have thought that if using a glove with it stops it from working, shouldn’t the shield have the same effect?
I use a microfiber cloth for cleaning LCDs. I wrapped the ipod tightly with it, and then wrapped it in packing tape until it was 2 or 3 layers thick, trimmed the edges, and slide the ipod into it. luckily the microfiber cloth also cleans the fingerprints and smudges from the screen and way to shiny back.
Steve, the shields are specially designed to work with the touch screen. I have been using mine for over a week now, and had no problems.

Contrary to popular belief, there are quite a few quality sleeves and cases out for the Touch. I personally own one from the guys over at Incipio. For $15.95, you can’t go wrong with these - they fit snugly, have soft leather on the inside, and have a cool “pull strap” that pulls up your Touch about an inch out of the case for easy removal without having to dig your fingers inside the sleeve.

Hey - I’m using one of those ipod socks - the grey one - looks good
I got a silicon case on eBay delivery from Hong Kong. Very nice!

Same as Javier only mine is black:
Every time I buy a new iPod I go on ebay and buy a silicone jacket - this one was $8.00 shipped. Fits perfect.
Item # 290163777747
I use the case which came with my old Video 5.G. The Touch nearly fits it!
I use an iPhone case. My 16GB Touch fits perfectly. I bought the case at Best Buy: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=8423306&st=iphone+case&lp=1&type=product&cp=1&id=1181832387995
I’ve just ordered a soft leather sleve from eBay for the ipod touch. I didn’t really want a case on it because I use it in my car holder w/ fm transmitter (which a case would make it too big for)… but something to protect it for when it is in my pocket.
I bought an iPhone case for my iPod touch. Fits well. I also left the plastic on the touch screen out of the box to protect the screen itself. It also works well.
The invisible shield is the best
I’m just using the thin case that came with my 80gb video ipod (previous generation). it sticks just a little out of the top, but otherwise fits great.
im using a sock
i like to call it the isock its pretty ba i must say cuz hey we all cant afford i touch cases you know and i cant find any anyways so
I know some people will be appaled, but right now, I’m not using anyhing to protect my iPod, these things are sooooooo durable. The back isnpretty a ratched, especially seeing as I’ve only had for a week, but that’s only cosmetic. In not really worried about the screen, I did a scratch test it, with a knife, and nothing what so ever showed up.
So yeah, not too worried about the screen.
I went to Pacific Mall ( the chinese mall here in canada.) and picked up a silicone case for the iphone. It fits perfect… if you can handle the speaker slot, volume slot and camera hole. It was 15 bucks and worth every penny….
I havent bought my touch yet, though when i do ill get something from: http://www.istyles.com . the skins are too sick, cant wait!
I have not acquired this incredible gizmo yet, but I did see a video on Youtube featuring a scratch test on the screen. Is the screen really that superior, and indeed scratchless? So there is no screen protection needed on this thing?
Ooh, thanks for that link, Sajjad, I bought a great looking sleeve for it from that site, $12.99 shipped, AND (the one thing I’ve seen lacking from almost every other case) it has a spot to stick your earbuds.
there are guards for the touch that are like the ones that protect the screen but the whole touch. I think its guardzone.com or something
I just got this one from Waterfield Designs and I’m loving it.
http://www.sfbags.com/products/ipodsmartcase/ipodsmartcase.htm
The screen is glass and very scratch-resistant, so I’m pretty ok with leaving it as-is. I’m just petrified of dropping it. That said, I want a kind of case that will protect the back from greasy hands, excessive scratches (why, oh why is the back not matte finish?), and that will protect the corners for when I, inevitably, drop this thing in the parking lot.
the screen doesn’t scratch…
I got my ipod on Friday when they were released. I went everywhere looking for a case to find out they haven’t been released yet. Today, I got an iphone case from Cingular/AT&T and I left the screen protector that comes with it. I got the DLO Jam Jacket in black, it even has a thing in the back for your headphones. That’s what I’m using for now, but I really want the Griffin iclear whenever it gets released. The ipod doesn’t fall/slip out of the case or anything. I highly recommend it.
Chech this one out. I’m thinking of ordering one myself

If you are worried about the back, apply a brushed metal look. It is verry easy. http://members.optusnet.com.au/brushedipod/
apple sock + invisible shield ftw
The InvisibleShield is the best option for the iPod. I don’t have the new iPod Touch, but I do have one of the classic iPods. I put the shield on as soon as I got it, and it’s been on for over a year and is still going strong. It’s pretty tricky to put on, but once it’s on there, it looks great. After you apply the shield, after 48 hours it will stretch itself over the iPod, and it WILL really be invisible. They also make a shield that covers both the front screen and the chrome back of the iPod. Plus, it adds a slightly tacky grip to the iPod, which makes it less prone to droppage. Plus, if you register the shield with the company, if the shield scratches or tears anytime during it’s life, they will replace it free. Definitely go with the Invisible Shield.
And no, I don’t work for the company. I just really, really like their product. =)
Here’s the link for the Touch shield.

Very Simple…..Get the window insulating kit that uses a hair dryer to stretch the plastic. I cut a small piece and taped it to the backside. Wrapped it around the front and used the hair dryer to shrink wrap it. Works like a charm. Full Protection. Pure Genius!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I use an oakley sunglass bag to protect mine. The bag also can be used to clean the iPod Touch since the bag is made of microfiber. Get extra bags on eBay.
I am using an isock inside my dior microfiber bag in side my dior sunglass case… it can move around in the sunglass case but that is what the sock and bag are for to absorb that shock and when it’s in my purse i don’t worry about it getting crushed.
To carry it around I’m using the little black box that contained the printed manuals that came with the iPod Touch. Its a perfect fit for both the polishing cloth and the iPod, and its free! Sure, you can’t operate the iPod while its in the box (unless you cut holes in it), but I really just use it for protection while in transit in my bag or glovebox.
Otherwise, while in use, my Touch is naked as a jaybird. Sure, its developing some nice scrubby scratch marks on the chrome backing, but whoop-de-doo.
I think it would be awesome to convert a small pocket Bible or moleskin notebook to be an iPod Touch case. Hey, yeah, I’ll have to have the people over at MAKE! get on that right away. DIY FTW!
Hello!
