  5. Colin, December 23, 2007:

Why should you downgrade to 1.1.1 ? why not get the 1.1.1

  6. Colin, December 23, 2007:

    sorry i meant …
Why should you downgrade to 1.1.1 ? why not get the 1.1.2

  7. tai, December 25, 2007:

cuz u can do more with 1.1.1

  8. Aaron, December 26, 2007:

Where are your instructions? I only see a 1.1.1 link. Thanks

  9. tai, December 26, 2007:

look at the home page of ipodtouchhacks and scroll down

  10. john, December 28, 2007:

when i download this it looks like a folder this might be because my macbook decompressed it already? but when i go into iTunes you can’t select a folder and inside it are many things that don’t work? What should i do

  11. Alec rave, December 29, 2007:

omg I know I get this all the time, but u r the only one so cares to share that info.

  12. Vic, December 29, 2007:

I don’t get the downgrade instructions for the 1.1.1. I download the sofware to my desktop but that’s the only thing I can do with it. I don’t see any instructions from there on out or a How to do anything with it. Can you or anyone for that matter help a brotha out?

  13. Alec rave, December 29, 2007:

ya i’m getting the same thing:
    its on the desktop,
    i click it,
    it opens itunes,
    nothing else happens.
i know that im missing some instructions cuz ur so called “instructions” are only the link and to make sure the end is .ipsw

  14. Alec rave, December 29, 2007:

sorry im kinda spamming here, but i just thought that it is doing that because after the original itunes 7.4 that could support the touch/phone, they changed the itunes program along with the touch programing to prevent this exact loopwhole. that was probably the main reason that they came out with itunes 7.5. not sure but it worth asking.

  15. Alex, December 29, 2007:

It is very easy to downgrade to 1.1.1 even with iTunes 7.5. All you to do is save the file link at the top of the page. Save it in a folder you remember. Plug in your iPod Touch (There is no need to put it in recovery mode). Hold the left shift button on your keyboard and click on the restore button. Find the 1.1.1 firmware that you just downloaded and click open. Let nature take its course and you will successfully be downgraded to version 1.1.1. Takes less than 5 minutes.

  16. Vic, December 29, 2007:

NICE ALEX! Now that’s what I’m talking about! Good looking out!

  17. Vic, December 29, 2007:

Ok, Spoke too soon! It says it could not be restored, that an unknown error occurred (5)

  18. Vic, December 29, 2007:

This thing is NOT allowing me to downgrade. I think it might be a new software issue, anyone has more info about this?

  19. Pat, December 29, 2007:

Alright I’m downloading the downgrade. I hope things work out, I can’t risk losing my years of music, lol! This is one hell of a tragedy! ahhh!!

  20. Vic, December 29, 2007:

So has anyone figure this out yet? I dowloaded the software into my desktop and tried to do the restore just like Alex said but it wouldn’t allow me due to an error (5) as I stated before.

  21. Cool Games, December 29, 2007:

MAC Users use the OPTION Key
    Windows use LEFT SHIFT

  22. Vic, December 29, 2007:

I’m using the LEFT SHIFT button and picking up the file out of my desktop and hit open just as it says in the instructions and it starts doing its thing but then it says that it has an UNKNOWN ERROR (5) and it doesn’t downgrade. I tried it in 3 difference laptops and they ALL say the same thing. Is it the Iphone itself that it is too new and with new software that can’t be hacked, or what? I don’t want to waste my time on this if apple already figure out a way to block the hacking function.

  23. Alex, December 30, 2007:

Hey Vic this for the iPod touch not the iPhone. The install at the top is for iTouch only i think

  24. Vic, December 30, 2007:

Damn! No wonder…. Is there one for the Iphone? I got reffered to this website from one of my boys and he used it on his iPhone, that’s why I’m wondering…

  25. Vic, December 31, 2007:

Ok, I finally got it figured out. Thanks to everyone for the help! Now, to enjoy the benefits of the 1.1.1……… =)

  26. Richard, January 2, 2008:

hey guys…im new to this thing but i’ve done alot of research…im basically done downloading everything but i cant find my firmware 1.1.1. its not on my desktop but if any of you guys use mozilla firefox, its in my “downloads” section… i press open, and it takes me to itunes.I press shift+restore, a browser comes up, but i can’t find firmware 1.1.1. is it in a different name? any suggestions where it might be? thanks for u time. really appreciate it.

  27. tai, January 4, 2008:

i would try to search for it on ur computer using the progam search

  28. capn morgan, January 4, 2008:

thank you so much for putting the link because ive been looking all week for this downgrade

  29. Liam O'Neil, January 5, 2008:

When I find the file, i find a sub-folder called firmware which contains two sub-folders called all_flash and dfu but no file, per se. Am I missing something obvious?

  30. aznboi101, January 5, 2008:

  31. Vinny, January 7, 2008:

  32. jdmkraziestyles, January 9, 2008:

When you download the version 1.1.1 and downgrade to it, are you going to loose ALL of the songs, pictures, etc. that are already installed in the ipod touch? I do not want to loose anything especially the music since it took me a very long time to organize everything.

Can someone PLEASE confirm this with me? Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

  33. Mark, January 9, 2008:

I am having the same problem. When i try to open 1.1.1 all i get is folders that lead to more options

  34. Megan, January 10, 2008:

..maybe this is just a problem on macs but:
im having the same problem as the others with the llink only downloading folders that lead to more folders and such because my computer decompresses it automatically..
it wouldnt be a problem except itunes wont let me select the whole file for downgrading.
i know theres many people that posted with this problem
but no answer had been posted on here yet..
    please help
and thanks to anyone who does
    and those who already have

  35. Somebody, January 11, 2008:

So it only works with 1.11?????? I just got iPod Touch for Christmas and I spent hours trying to jailbreak it… turns out i had 1.12

  36. Nathan, January 12, 2008:

My touch has 1.1.2. & when I try to downgrade I get the same Unknown Error (5) mentioned by Vic. Has anyone else experienced this? Any work arounds? Help me hack!!

  37. Nathan, January 12, 2008:

I should also mentioned I’m attempting this on a iBook G4. Could this be the issue?

  38. lostXwithXana, January 13, 2008:

uhhhh. Do I lose my music and what not when I downgrade.

  39. Saidy92, January 14, 2008:

yes, you lose all your music lost with ana. but it should be on your computer you update from so you will still have it on your computer. cheers. (australia is awesome at cricket)

  40. James, January 15, 2008:

Hey, I just got my IPod touch and my friend at school told me about all the benifits of downgrading my touch. I just of the one problem it says to go to http://www.touchdev.net to start my downgrading but that website won’t work… What do I do??

  41. Juan, January 16, 2008:

Hi this is the iphone firmware iPhone1,1_1.0.2_1C28_Restore.ipsw I downloading the link now, seems that http://www.touchdev.net/wiki/Main_Page server is down. Maybe the release and the expectation about the 1.1.3 is being excessive. Well i know something about the iphone so check iphone.unlock.no to know about how to put DFU and the basis. I realized that I’ve being worried about the iphone but I now want the 1.1.1, 1.1.2 and 1.1.3 firmwares and the old ones. Put in DFU restore to 1.1.1, read iphone.unlock.no and jailbreakme.com. Then oktoprep and 1.1.2 (this all is about the iphone I have to discover how accurate is with iTouch)

  42. Juan, January 16, 2008:

    You should check http://www.hackint0sh.org

To all of those that have the problem downloading the firmware and getting unziped with the folder stuff. I got it from hackint0sh ;)

This problem happened to me, her’s what you do…

    Go into Safari>Preferences>General.

On the bottom third of the screen you will see a box that says something like “Open safe files automatically”. Uncheck it.

Then, download the package again, and this time it will not unzip by itself.

Erase the .zip part of the file extension, and voila – it will work.

  43. Juan, January 16, 2008:

    Or use firefox ;)

  44. lorne, January 16, 2008:

I get the “Unknown error occured (1)”
    What does that mean?

  45. lorne, January 16, 2008:

I have tryed several links to the 1.1.1 firmware and none of them worked
I’ve tryed the Check for Updates (with shift key held down) also the restore (with shift key held down)
the error message is in itunes
after i get the error message It makes me restore my ipod

  46. Juan, January 16, 2008:

Error: The iphone “xxx” could not be restored. An unknown error occured (1).
Some user experienced the above error message and iTunes won’t update the iphone firmware. Anyone know how to solve this issue?
This problem is 2 fold… people goto the restore screen instead of letting the blank screen load on the iPhone. Also, I encountered this error on Vista on 3 separate machines. Using an XP box fixed this problem for me.
@@@ For me, the solution to “An unknown error occured (1)” when trying to downgrade to 1.0.2 was to downgrade to 1.0.1 then upgrade to 1.0.2 – Blatwurst @@@

  47. Juan, January 16, 2008:

You have to be sure that it is in DFU mode.

  48. lorne, January 16, 2008:

I’m using an ipod touch and vista business

  49. lorne, January 16, 2008:

    would that effect it?

  50. Juan, January 17, 2008:

Iorne after it gives you the error you have to quit iTunes and wake the device with iDemocracy or something like this. Once this is done the Touch will boot normally and then restart itunes again. This should work. (that is how is done on the iphone)

  51. Juan, January 17, 2008:

Ok I upgrade my Touch to 1.1.3 and I’m having troubles to downgrading to 1.1.1
    I’ll post later something ;)

  52. Juan, January 17, 2008:

Ok after getting crazy with uphuc segmentation fault ;P I found this ans is working.

    Polo said…
It is much simplier with an iPod Touch:

    1. turn it off (red slider)
    2. connect to USB and run iTunes
    3. press both Sleep and Home buttons for 10 seconds
    4. release Sleep and keep pressing Home for another 10 seconds then release
    5. iTunes recognize iPod in restore mode but THIS TIME you can restore to 1.1.1 or 1.1.2 without “uknown error”.

  53. lorne, January 18, 2008:

I foud a different way to jailbreak ipod touch this is a little biit harder but worked for me
    http://ipodtouchmaster.com/1.1.3_downgrade.zip
Use this link unzip and read “Read Me”
Thire will be a link in the text for 1.1.1 restore
you will want to set Itunes to DO Not start when ipod is conected
    openn iphuc.exe
    and enter
“enterrecovery” your ipod will dull and then go blank.
then you will enter the log comand
after it enter it EXACTLY as it appers
    then enter the short comand.
load up itunes and hold shift and hit restore locate 1.1.1 restore
and let it do it’s thing
