Update: If you have an iPod Touch with the latest 2.0 software you will need to downgrade your software from 2.0 to 1.14 before using this tutorial.
In my previous ZiPhone post, I was not as explicit with directions as my other jailbreak method. I am sorry. To make it up to you, here are DETAILED instructions for Jailbreaking your iPod Touch. For those of you curious, it takes up as much space as ONE song. So not a lot at all.
WARNING: If anything goes wrong, hold the home button and the power button until it turns off. Keep holding it until it shows the connect to iTunes image. Then try again. It should work the second time if the first doesn’t.
1. Restore your iPod to firmware 1.1.4
- Plug in your iPod and run iTunes.
- When your iPod shows up in iTunes, click the restore button
- This will erase everything on your iPod, but you can sync it later
- Do not restore from a backup
2. Download ZiPhone
- Download ZiPhone
- Click on the downloaded file and let it install
- If it doesn’t install, you need to download and install this .net microsoft file
3. Run ZiPhone
- With your plugged in iPod and ZiPhone running, click Jailbreak (the second action)
- Wait a minute, and your iPod will be jailbroken with installer on your home screen.
4. Get it Running
- In installer, go to the Install tab, click all packages, and install BSD Subsystem
- To get the January apps, go to the sources tab and click edit, and add http://ipodtouchmaster.com/files/repo.xml OR http://repo.applerepo.com
- In the Install tab, go to iPhone 1.1.4 Applications and install iPhone 1.1.4 Apps
- Add the source
- In Installer, go to Install, All Packages, then install BossTool
- Once installed, click home and let the iPod refresh
- Click BossTools, Free Disk Space, then Relocate Fonts
- You can then uninstall BossTool in Installer in the Uninstall tab
5. You are done
- Sync with iTunes and enjoy your Touching

I found that whenever I jailbroke it (second time round after a restore) I just got a loop of BSD root minor etc… After a major panic attack I followed the instructions on a YouTube video and restored my iPod. I tried jailbreaking it again using ZiPhone, but got the same result. I then tried iLiberty and it worked perfectly for me. I’m definitely recommending iLiberty as a good jailbreaking app (to iPod Touch owners, as it cannot unlock iPhones.)

I just had an idea. Might be lame but what about an app that lets you see your Ipod touch screen on your Pc screen. Then lets you run Ipod Touch app from your Pc and lets you play Ipod Touch games from your PC while your Ipod Touch charges. That would be ultimate for me as I could then just hide the screen when folks are around and then play when I am board at work.

I got that same error everytime I used IpodTouchmaster’s ziphone hack method. Then when I used ZiPhone2.6 while my Ipod was plugged, unlocked, and I had Itunes open, it worked perfectly for me.
i need help, i didnt realize that itunes had to detect the ipod again before starting to run ZiPhone and i stopped the process in the middle of the jailbreak and now my ipod wont do anything! can i fix it? i need help please!

You should mos def install Bosstools. Bosstools will give you A LOT more space to install apps. If you don’t install it, you won’t have much memory for apps. Just trust me…you should just install it! If you have the programming skills, that idea is pretty cool. Hope all goes well!

Try doing the jailbreak again. Sorry for the hassle and the lag. All you have to do is a hard reset on your iPod. Then restore it to factory settings 1.1.4. Then do the jailbreak again! Let me know if you have any more problems. Hope all goes well!

I don’t know first hand if it works well, but they’re advertising a lot of nice bug fixes. I’ve read around and nobody really mentions it not being able to work on a 16 GB iPod Touch. I used the 2.6 Ziphone and that was great. Lots of people agree with me, but some will disagree. I would jailbreak your iPod to a newer version than 1.1.2 cause you don’t have the “wiggle” feature and adding web apps to your home screen. I would say try it out because I know a few people that waited and waited for the next best thing. They regretted waiting around! If you need any help just let us know. Do a hard reset. Hold power and home until it turns off. Keep holding until it has the connect to iTunes logo.
I read that blog about ZiPhone3.0 and lots of folks are asking if they should re-jailbreak with the new vesion. I personally cannot see a reason to redo it if you have a working Jailbroken unit. That’s just my opinion though. Anyhow, the Jailbreaks do work for the most part. I just found that it worked best for me if I made sure that through the entire process I kept Auto-lock set to never and did not disconnect my unit from the cable until I was completely finished. The hard restore worked best for me if I did it while it was connected to the computer and Itunes was already open. Little things that many lay-persons would not think of make a world of difference.

Download ziphone. You will definitely want to restore it to factory settings. Should be using firmware 1.1.4. After you have restored your Ipod Touch to 1.1.4 factory settings, LEAVE Itunes open and your ipod plugged in. Run ziphone and click jailbreak. Let it work. Basically using ziphone from ziphone.org follow the instructions at the top of this forum. Good luck to ya.

Well, if you did the hard reset, you would hold down the home button with the wake/sleep button down until the device shuts off. Keep holding it down until the Apple logo screen appears. Finally let go when the connect to iTunes screen appears. Once that appears, then restore your iPod to 1.1.4 and do the jailbreak again. Hope all goes well!

Just make sure your iPod is firmware 1.1.4 before you do the jailbreak. Also, get the download from ziphone.org and NOT ziphone.com. Follow the instructions on here and you’ll do fine. Hope all goes well!

I don’t think it’s bad if you have stuff on your iPod and you jailbreak it. I think we just suggest it be pretty empty, so we know…something you have on it won’t cause a problem. What version iPod do you have? If you’re 1.1.4 you are set to jailbreak it, but if you’re a lower version…restore it, so it’ll bring it to factory settings plus it’ll keep you up to date with the latest version. Alright, Lone Stag and I are writing a post with all these questions…it won’t be up YET, so I’ll answer it for you. To fix the keyboard from freezing in Installer, make sure to be on the main screen of your iPod. Click on Contacts and click the + to add a new contact. Then click on any of the boxes (I clicked on the First Last box) and just type in whatever you want for about 10 seconds. Once you’re down typing away, click cancel and then click cancel again. Once you do that, just click the home button and this should fix your keyboard from freezing in Installer. Hope all goes well!
Hmm, I recommend staying away from this app.
I installed it on an iPod Touch, and not only won’t the iPod start in anything but recovery mode any more, but it seems to be impossible to restore the firmware, since it no longer appears in iTunes and gets an “unknown error 0xE8000022″ whenever you try to connect it.
Anyone managed to restore from this point? I haven’t been able to get anywhere from here.

I had all my contacts on my Ipod and my mail set up and some music when I Jailbroke it. Not bad.
Grublord, following the instructions has worked for me. That goes out to Jeff as well. I do not know what would possess you to disconnect while it is jailbreaking. ZiPhone truly does work. To Dani, the hard restore will work if you just give it time. I had to hard restore many times until I found the way that worked for me. To be clear, you do not jailbreak right out of the box. Let Itunes see your unit and update it. Then see what firmware you are on. If you are on 1.1.4 then you can jailbreak it.
Concerning Rawks comment on the freezing keyboard. His suggestion worked like a charm for me.

How do I hard restore the iPod? But when I am trying to install BSD subsystems it comes Error Package download failed. I have tried to clear cues and everyting else that is mentiond in this forum.

Actually from what I know using ZiPhone sets your MAC address to static (it spells Zibri in ascii), and doing that is a big danger because no 2 people are supposed to have the same MAC address. (Maybe causing the wifi problem?) So ZiPhone is NOT the right way to jailbreak.
I used iLiberty+ and have no problems whatsoever with it. iLiberty ftw.

The software is pretty self explanatory, so I think there shouldn’t be a need for a video. But I can give you the steps:
Install and run iLiberty onto your computer.
Plug in your iPod, and check Jailbreak and Installer ONLY! If you’re on the iPhone, you can click the other stuff, but its important for you to check ONLY Jailbreak and Installer. Not even the Youtube fix.
Click Go for It.
It will ask you to unplug and plug in your iPod. Do that. No need to close iTunes. JUST IGNORE IT throughout the entire process. Don’t click anything even if it says something about recovery mode.
20 seconds later, Jailbroken iPod.
There is an advanced tab at the top, which allows you to install payloads (apps). I personally didn’t do any of that, for fear of doing something wrong, and you can do it all on installer anyway. But you can try. After selecting what you want then click ‘Go For It’ Bam, jailbroken.
Now when the iPod gets to the springboard for the first time, go into contacts or safari (or anywhere that brings up the keyboard EXCEPT INSTALLER) and type gibberish for about 10 seconds or so. This is to prevent the keyboard freeze-crash sequence that some users have experienced (I did with ZiPhone .. and that sucked)
After the 10 seconds or so, THEN go into Installer and start doing whatever you want to do.
Feel free to ask me more questions (I’ve got nothing else better to do) if anything goes wrong, like apps not working properly and such. I’ll be happy to answer.

Guys, I got a new ipodtouch with the current 1.1.4 (4A102) firmware. I paid $20 more to get some applications like mail, weather, and maps. I am trying to see if it is worth it to jailbreak. What I don’t like about my touch now is that
1. I can’t watch flash movies through safari.
2. I can’t connect to wifi with certificate.
3. I can’t save directions in maps so I can have them when I am offline and driving.
4. I can’t chat.
I wonder if jailbreaking would solve the above shortcomings and if it does, do the to-be-added applications depend on the method of jailbreak: iLiberty+, or Ziphone? which method offers more applications in that case, particularly regarding the above shortcomings?

Well, first off…sorry you spent $20 on the apps cause when you jailbreak you can get them for FREE. Lets see…flash is not working on the iPod/iPhone yet (it’s a rumor…it might not even happen at all). For wifi…you just have to connect to an open source. About maps…I know you have to be in a wifi area to get the directions, but once you have it on your device…it should still be there. When you jailbreak, you can get some apps which will allow you to chat.
Jailbreaking your iPod is all the same…using iLiberty over Ziphone…doesn’t matter. Some people have problems with iLiberty…some people have problems with Ziphone. You just have to choose which one you want to use. I personally used Ziphone and it worked fine. Some people don’t like it cause they got a buncha problems, so they went with iLiberty and it worked great. You don’t get MORE apps by choosing either Ziphone or iLiberty jailbreak. You can add sources into the Installer to add more apps for you to download. If you need more info or anything, let us know. Hope all goes well!

Yep, exactly what Rawks said. It all depends on which jailbreak causes you problems. I used Ziphone initially and nothing worked, and then iLiberty saved me. But other than that, there is no real difference between the 2 methods (seeing as how one of them is using stolen code from the other)
Just to expand on what Rawks has said:
Flash has not been incorporated into the ipod/phone yet. So nothing that you do now will change that, even if you take it apart and threaten to smash it to bits :P.
You will have to clarify what you mean by wifi with certificate. If you mean a wifi network with a password, then no, even with a jailbreak you will not be able to connect with it. You will still need a password. Its more if a network thing than an ipod issue.
I don’t think you can save directions with a jailbreak either (but I’ve never tried). Again, this is less of a ‘jailbreaking’ thing, and more of the Maps software capability thing. You can try though, you never know.
BUT YES, you can chat. Ooh, you can chat like you’ve never chatted before
There are SO MANY chatting apps out there floating around, you really can take your time and see which one suits you best. MSN, Yahoo, Gtalk, AIM, ICQ, take your pick. And some apps come with all those chatting platforms altogether minimizing the need for you to download individual chat apps.

Thank you guys for offering help and for the info. To clarify my question regarding the wifi with certificate is when you try to connect to a company server at work, or at university once you hit the network to connect a pop up pops out and ask you if you accept the certificate, if you say yes then it will ask you for user name and password. I have no problem to connect to a network with password, but I do have a problem connecting to the network at work eventhough I entered in “manual” my user name and password. So flash working on iphone is a rumor!, interesting!. Have you seen some people on youtube using some javascript code loaded into safari as a plugin and they show you that it works?!!. So there is no plugin created yet for safari (on ipod) to view flash? I mean in principle if you can view a pdf file through safari why would it be hard to view a flash video?. Guys I don’t know if you paid attention to the version on my ipod it is 1.1.4 (4A102), the code in pranthesis is for something I don’t know yet, but I guess it is for the added software that I paid the additional $20 to get. Now if I want to jailbreak I have to downgrade to 1.1.4 I guess?!.
Now here is a question. What are, if any, the irreversible deadpoints for Ziphone? for iLiberty+? at this time, I have seen something like grayed wifi, downgraded bootloop..etc in some posts related to Ziphone.

I’m sorry, but I can’t help you out with the wifi at work thing, I’v'e never encountered that before =(
However, yea flash at this point is like dangling candy in front of a baby and just placing it out of reach. I’m not a pro about the software side of the ipod, so as far as I know, no such plugins yet… There may be some trying to work on it, but its highly improbable.
No, the code in the parenthesis is the same for everyone, disregarding the 20 dollar upgrade. Its just a little firmware code for the people at Apple. The 20 dollar upgrade does not change your firmware number in any way. You don’t have to downgrade anything. Just do a restore to factory settings (as in restore to 1.1.4 again.) And then start the jailbreak. No downgrading required, and don’t worry, you’ll be able to sync your purchased apps back into your restored ipod.
Now as for the deadpoints, I’m gonna admit that I will be slightly biased against ZiPhone. First of all its sort of a stolen jailbreak from the original jailbreak developers. Second of all, using ZiPhone sets the iPod’s MAC address to a static one, which means EVERYONE who used ZiPhone now has the same MAC address. This is bad.
ZiPhone does on occasion give users the wifi/bluetooth/youtube not working problem, but as far as I know versions 2.6b and 3.0 sort of fixes it. But there are still people complaining about it.
My personal choice will be to use iLiberty+. Its more stable, and so far none have complained about broken wifi or bsd minor major spamming. Which is GREAT. The only snag is the freeze keyboard I think, and in my steps that I posted yesterday that can be easily taken care of.
so yeah, in a nutshell, I’d use iLiberty+ instead of ziphone anytime. I hate thieves…

Your iPod will NEVER be beyond repair (unless you’re pwning 2.0, but thats another matter altogether).
Restoring pretty much fixes everything, and you can set the ipod into DFU mode if you can’t restore. Its NOT able to brick, contrary to popular belief. Only iPhones can brick, due to basebands… You’re safe.
I jailbroke my ipod and now i am having a problem with BSD Subsystem…when i try to install it this message comes up “Error Package Download failed!”…what do i do or what didnt i do…”i went to installer clicked the install tab…then under all packages i went to BSD Subsystem 2.0 Termfix and click install and it says that message
You have to download BSD first before downloading the termfix….
Firstly clear queues, and the install BSD Subsystem, and THEN download the termfix
i tried some other packages…like games “NES”…and it wont let me install anything!!!:’(

I own a 16 GB iPod Touch and I used the Ziphone method. I got the jailbreak in less than a minute. It’s true that that some people do run into some problems, but if you do…read the latest post from Lone Stag and myself. I just jailbreaked an iPhone using Ziphone and everything worked perfect. When you jailbreak your device, you will get an icon on your device called Installer. This is where you would download apps and all those things. You mention what apps to download music…you have to use your computer to get music (Limewire, BearShare, etc.) Hope all goes well!

The new Customize just came out…it’s Customize 2.0 and it works with 1.1.4. You have to add a source: repo.ipodtouched.net

Most of the package doesnt get install bescause it says that this version of Customize requires Firmaware 1.1.(123).!!!!, why is taht appears to me?

When you added that source, it adds a folder into your Installer named “iPod touched.” Go in that folder and it has the new Customize 2.0. That should solve your problem. When you install it and if it crashes on you…download the SUID Lib fix in the “Tweaks (1.1.3)” folder.
To get NES and Genesis ROMs, you have to download them and SSH them into your iPod. There are sources you can add, so you can install those packages and the games go into your iPod. I know there are some NES packages out there, but I don’t know about Genesis. Hope all goes well!
ive got an ipod touch 16gb using firmware 1.1.4, did the jailbreak using ziphone v3.0. got the istaller, but it doesnt work, i tried refreshing sources but it wont update, also i cant add anything in the installer, tried adding google.com. but wont refresh. any help would be appreciated

that is a trivia game for Ipod. You can actually buy it on Itunes. There is an iquiz maker that can be downloaded to edit and create more trivia quizes for it as well. One of the many things Apple doesn’t support for our devices.
The new Customize seems to work well when the SUID fix is applied. although I have not been able to find many really nice themes. In the videos I have seen they show lots of options for lots of items. but I haven’t had that luck hehe.
I have a huge problem, My itouch wont respond all the way down the screen it says

There’s no need to jailbreak again. There might just be an error with the repo for the time being. Just wait…it might work eventually throughout the day. I know sometimes when the repo is down…the source will go in the untitled source. Since Customize 2.0 just came out…maybe lots of being are trying to grab it.
Let’s try this again. I’m going to go step by step on adding sources. You probably know how to do this, but I’m just making sure.
1. Go into Installer
2. Click on the Source tab on the bottom right
3. Click edit on top and then click add
4. Add “repo.ipodtouched.net” or “ipodtouched.net/repo.xml”…forgot which one works
5. After you put it in…it should refresh your sources
6. Click on the Install tab and find the folder that says “iPod touched”
7. Install Customize 2.0 beta

I have spent the last few hours messing with the Customize2.0. It is not stable at all. It opens very slowly and then you have to uninstall and reinstall the SUID fix each time you want to open it. then after a while that doesn’t work either. i like the idea of using Customize but it just takes way too long to open or move between items and several of the themes I installed as well as image sets just did not show up at all. First time I did not enjoy messing with my ipod. hehe

Since Customize 2.0 is still a beta app…there’s going to be some bugs and errors. I’m not sure why you have to uninstall and reinstall the SUID fix. My customize is working fine. I don’t really like the new Customize so far, but I haven’t really played around with it that much. I thought the old Customize was easier to use because it had pictures, which made it user friendly.
Here is a question: between step 5. and 6. i have to see that the source appears with that name too? i go to the installer tab and doesnt appears that folder… i have to wait? and its have to be in the All Package categories?

I honestly like the Customize before the Customize 2.0. It was a lot easier to use as I mentioned earlier. Customize 2.0 has new things like SMB prefs in it and stuff like that, but…I would rather want something user friendly.

Tried the modded Customize1.0 from Ipodtouched.net and it just went to open and then closed like 2.0 did.
Didn’t see any !Starter kit folder that dloader girl mentions.
got that earlier Customize going and it is smoother. Makes me wonder if the 2.0 wouldn’t have worked better with the compatibility patch. 2.0 allows themse and wallpapers. When it is more stable should be nice. the older one has actual images to use which is nice.

Bob, you need to be more specific.
What do you mean when you say can’t connect? Can’t connect to a wifi network? Can’t connect to WinSCP? Can’t connect through iTunes? Can’t connect through Total Commander?
If you’re talking about internet (wifi) which I think you’re most probably talking about. I doubt there is a way for you to ‘hardwire’ an ipod to an internet modem. But then again, you never know what people can come up with.

ERROR PACKAGE FAILED
The unwelcome “Error Package Failed” pop up appears when you try to install an app in Installer. To fix this problem, make sure in Installer that there is nothing in your queue. If you cleared it and you install again and nothing happens, clear the queue again and restart your iPod. You shouldn’t get that error again.

Hi there, I followed all these steps, but the mail, note, and weather apps do not show up on my home screen. I’m wondering if I am missing a step somewhere? When I open up “Poof” (the icon hiding app) they show up in there as though they should be visible on the springboard…Hmmm…
I tried to jailbreak my 8BG ipod touch. i bought the january upgrade when it came out. so i dedcided to install ziphone and jailbreak my ipod. i did everythingright, i followed the instructions exactly. so when i turned my ipod back on, everything was gone and the installer app was there. i tried to install the bsd thing and it wont let me it says that it is an invalid certificate. and the same thing happens when i try to install bosstool. when i tried to get the january apps, it went through but then it said could not refresh sources. so i restored my ipod and none of my music came back but all of the apps i had added to my homescreen were there. then i tired installing the jailbreak again on my ipod and now there are just all these white letter on my screen and its says this over and over again

You need the Summerboard themes fix. And if you haven’t already, the 1.1.3/4 compatibility patch form here.

Look for the Summerboard Themes fix file and download it.
Uninstall your smb, install the patch, reinstall summerboard, apply the fix, and uninstall the patch. restart. It should work. If it doesn’t then you will need to do some chmod-ing via Terminal

There will always be risks to the jailbreaking, Adverse effects? No. Any problems arising from the jailbreak can be easily fixed with a restore.
Its pretty safe, but if you do get into some problems, its just a bit of a pain to restore

Like I said to isitsafe, risks will always be there. But everything can be fixed with a restore. As far as I know iLiberty works with all versions of the iPod at the moment so your 32 gb should be fine.
And no, your iPod will not be completely ruined. Worst thing is just you losing all your songs and apps after you restore. If you have an iphone, then its a different matter. =)

Your themes are probably being placed in the wrong place. So…on Installer there should be a summerboard fix. Add this source: http://ipodtouched.net/repo.xml
When your sources refresh, there’s a folder in the install tab named “ipod touched.” You’ll find one to fix this problem. Hope all goes well!

Hey, regarding the issue when you use ZiPhone and then you’re stuck with a bunch of white code on your iPod Touch and nothing is working. I had this issue and I tried over and over and over again to hard reset it…nothing worked. I didn’t have it plugged in when I was hard resetting it.
I plugged my iPod in and then did the hard reset and it finally got me to the screen saying that I need to plug it into iTunes.

I suggest you read the comments on just do a simple google search for a fix… Its been said many times. And for the last time:
Put your iPod into recovery mode/DFU (whichever suits your liking) using iPhuc or ZiPhone or iLiberty+ and if you don’t know how to go into recovery/DFU… read previous posts/comments.
RE-jailbreak with iLiberty+ (or ZiPhone 2.6b = thats the one I heard that works best…I don’t know)

Hi. i have read through everything and used iliberty. after jailbreaking went through and worked fine. i typed in safari so it didnt freeze the keyboard then attempting to install i got the msg failed to download, couldnt find host. i decided to restore my ipod completely and it wont work. a msg keeps coming up saying ” the ipod couldnt be restored unknown error occured (2001)” so i did the full restore waited for the plug into itunes to show up then attempted again but wit no luck! can someone help me out? its an 8gb ipod touch.

Make sure you’re connected to a wifi spot first of all.
Then clear all your queus.
And if that doesn’t work, uninstall everything that you’ve installed and only install ‘BossTools.’
Then click on ‘move applications’
Then retry Installer.

I have been doing this for a good hour now and it is driving me insane. Is there a specific amount of time it takes to refresh the sources or what? And do I really need to put that source in to get the software I want?

I get freezes now and if I try to surf the web It freezes comes back and then if i want to surf again it completely freezes and I’m force to restart my itouch.

That connect to Itunes screen comes after the logo.
1. Your ipod needs to be plugged into your computer when restoring.
2. You restore by holding down the power+ home buttons until you see the logo. Then you let up on the power button and continue to hold the home button until you see the connect to itunes button.
3. restore.
NOTE: I hope I got #2 correct as I am sitting at my keyboard late at night in the dark unable to sleep.

there are quite a few apps and stuff in that repo. If you have your wifi up and running then you should be able to get online with your ipod touch right away without extra software or apps.

Hey just two short questions for you Ipod wizards!…
So I jailbroke my 8GB Ipod touch the first time using Ziphone 2.5 (for some silly reason I can’t download 3.0 from the Ziphone site, it simply refreshes without doing anything after clicking the download button..!!) and it all worked fine until I installed BossTool to relocate the fonts, then after that if i tried to type ANYTHING in calender..safari…whatever it would freeze and I would have to hard reset. So I restored the Ipod through Itunes, updated to 1.14, installed BossTools again but skipped the relocate fonts…and everything works fine. I need the extra space for applications though because 8GB is quite tight for lots of music and videos, so I really need to relocate the fonts again, I just don’t want to have to go back to square one again with a restore. Has anyone had the same problems with BossTool?
Also….above in step 4: ‘Get it running’…I skipped the part which says ‘Add the source’ because I really don’t understand what it means by that…could someone explain this to me?

I actually haven’t heard about the freezing on Safari and stuff, but I have heard about the keyboard freezing while adding sources in Installer. Well, if you read this post http://www.ipodtouchhacks.com/ipod-touch/important-solutions/ it will hopefully do the same fix. It’s under “keyboard freeze.”
About adding sources, you do this on Installer. When you click on Installer on the bottom right is a tab named “Sources.” Click on that and on the top right you would click edit and then click add. When you do this a little pop up will come up telling you to add the source. So, when you add sources…you add more apps into your install tab. This will help you get more things on your Installer. Check out iappcat.com to find some good sources.

Make sure you’re within Wifi because it’s slow when you’re not in a Wifi area. Just be patient and it should work. If it seems stuck, just hold the home button down and it should get you off of it. Hope all goes well!

Maybe im wrong ? I have Wireless internet. In fact this laptop is connected wireless. I have added the Mac address of my Ipod and can connect to google.

You would add repos into the the sources on Installer. These will add more apps onto your Installer. To add sources, read my comment #179.
To see if you’re connecting to Wifi, click on Settings. Your wireless name should show up next to Wifi. If it’s there…it means you’re connected. Hope all goes well!

I just jailbroke it but when i tryed to plug it back into my computer it said my ipod could not be dected because of an error (0xE800000022) or something and i cant connect it to the computer so I cant restore it, please help!!!!!!!

UUuuuummm…that’s strange. Everyone that has had this problem solved it with this solution I put up. Try turning off and on your device and trying it again. If it still does the same thing, only thing I could say is to do a hard reset and try it again. Hope all goes well!

Nothing seems to work on my ipod. And its all down to the Wifi.
Its very VERY slow. I have a 10mbit internet and the wireless works on 3 computers in my house. The ipod connects, and it is online, but its sloooooooooooooooow.
I´ve been sitting for about an hour now looking at “refreshing sources”
I dont understand why its so slow. Its absolutely useless at this “speed”
Cant download anything, cause even 30 kb takes forever.
Can i transfer files some other way ? Or do you know a fix for the speed ?

I think I have to do it at the beginning rAwks, I’m trying it again, I just use iliberty and used the keyboard method and no freeze, I’m not sure if it’s because of of iLiberty or it’s because I wasn’t on ziphone but either way I’ll let you know.

Try this out…when you have a bad source (a source that doesn’t work) in your sources…it lags your refreshing sources. If it’s all your Wifi stuff, go on Settings and then click the reset button. Then click on Reset Network Settings…this should hopefully fix it! Hope all goes well!

NVM!!! I got my ipod back to normal!!! GEt your ipod into restore/DFU mode. REJAILBREAK using iLiberty.
THEN once the iPod gets to the springboard DO NOT GO INTO INSTALLER!

Type anything for 10-30 secs
cancel and close out
Go into installer. Should be fine.

Hey I tried to install this and it screwed up my touch ipod. HELP! It won’t reboot correctly now or connect to itunes please tell me you know how to fix1
I ran the jailbreak and the connect to itunes came up itunes says can not connect because unknown error occurred (0xE8000001).

hard restore. the instructions have been repeated a zillion times. Plug your ipod in. Press and hold the home AND power button. When you see the Apple Logo leg go of the power button but keep holding the home button. After 15-30 seconds you will see a Connect to Itunes message. From there just click the restore button in Itunes.
One more things folks. I found that after I jailbroke my Ipod, Itunes would give me an error if my Ipod was asleep or locked when I plugged it in. To rectify this I make sure that when I initially plug my ipod in it is awake AND unlocked. Always works like a charm. If I forget and get an error from Itunes, I simply unplug, unlock, and then plug back in without issue.

To those who are having problem with line and the each line being produced untill the end of time!
Simply bring the ipod back into recovery mode. I was reading this in the Ziphone 3.0 Help section. You have to hold the power and home button untill the screen goes black.All you have to do is take your finger off the power button and leave one finger pressing the home button. The ipod will be in recovery mode, you should now beable to restore it in itunes. I had itunes open while i was doing this.
I panicked aswell and thought i broke my ipod! But this really works! i was just dumb enough to press the first button! which is for the iphone! You should have pressed the Jailbreak option (second button).

i tried to jailbreak my 16gb ipod and it fked up… i tried to jailbreak it, but as many people tried, it didnt work… why? because it wasnt plugged in…. so this is what i did….
opened up itunes… connected my ipod…. held the home and the power button together until the ‘connect to itunes’ logo appeared…
it was only then, did itunes recognise my ipod and allowed me to restore it back….

The reason you want to get the 1.1.4 iphone applications is so you can have the wiggle feature. The wiggle feature allows you to move your icons on your home screen around.

Well, you need the iPod on to install things from Installer. If you’re transferring things from the computer to iPod using SSH, I don’t think you need it totally on. It can be on sleep mode.

Not sure what the problem is, but try this. Alright, bare with me cause my settings looks different than the stock one, so I’m just guessing where things are. So…go onto Settings and find the button that says Reset. Click on it and then click on Reset Network Settings. Hopefully that will do something.

I have a 16gb ipod touch. it has v1.1.2. I am going to use Ziphone3.0 to jailbreak it.
Do i have to have v1.1.4 running on the ipod in order to jailbreak it or can i just use Ziphone3.0 directly on V1.1.2?
If i need to update it to v1.1.4 first, how do i do that without dishing out $$? do i ‘restore’ to a higher firmware or something?

I am pretty sure ZiPhone will work with any version. Try it. If it doesn’t, then restore to 1.1.4 (it doesn’t cost anything).

so when people say ‘restore’ to the original firmware does that mean there is no such thing as an original firmware since it would no longer be 1.1.2, or does it mean ive got a 1.1.2 which has all the functions of 1.1.4 but is still 1.1.2?

When you connect your iPod to iTunes and you click “restore,” it’ll restore your iPod to factory settings, but also keeping it current…which is firmware 1.1.4. Since you have 1.1.2 and when you click restore…after the restore your iPod will be 1.1.4. You can get all the versions online, which will be in an. ipsw format. For example, I have on my computer the .ipsw for firmware 1.1.1 and 1.1.2. If I wanted to, I can go restore it back to those versions…but I like version 1.1.4. Hope all goes well!
I just downloaded jailbreak off of ziphone for my 32gb ipod with the 1.1.4 update on it and it works like a charm. I didnt erase my ipod before i did it either. I have not yet had a problem. I Found it a little skechy downloading but end the end …perfect. All i did was plug my ipod in to itunes, then downloaded jailbreak. Started up jailbreak and clicked begin for ipod touch. Ipod did some weird stuff and looked like it went into msdos mode. Also when this started it said my ipod went into recoverymode i just didnt touch anything. It finish and my ipod turned off then back on and then itunes reconized it and bam better than new.

Only thing I can think of is to restore it and jailbreak it again. If this happens again using Ziphone (assuming you used Ziphone)…try using iLiberty. Hope all goes well!

So I just want advice which is more reliable- iLibirty or Ziphone- I have Ziphone downloaded and I can follow the above instructions but I’d prefer to do it only once and have it work

For me it was really easy. I downloaded jailbreak from ziphone. Pluged my ipod into itunes. Click jailbreak , then pressed download under itouch/iphone. Then it did its magic. It was really sketchy, first my itunes said my ipod went in to recovery mode but i didnt press anything. Ipod went crazy for a bit doing its thing. When it was done my ipod turned off then back on. Itunes reconized it and that was it. I unpluged it and i was on my way. Very easy!

I know enough about jailbreaking to know that you won’t loose your upgrade- just follow the above instructions and it should work fine (I haven’t done it yet) (I’d still like advice that I asked for earlier (: )… Umm when you restore it should go back tot he software upgrade- if it doesn’t complain to Apple they have your serial number, your account, and they’ll see you bought it and get you a new one- but the fact of the matter is it will ‘remember’ that you have the upgrade. Just back up your iPod then do the restore then jailbreak then voila update from the backup and it should work fine.. (I think)..
I’m still skeptical about the whole jailbreak thing… Haha
Hey does ZiPhone work on 16 gig models?!! I have a source that says it doesn’t and only on 8 gig.. And I have a source that says that there aren’t many apps for 1.1.4 and I should downgrade to 1.1.2 and then get the apps there.. But I’d prefer to keep it simple..

You won’t lose your upgrade apps you paid for. I also paid for them (begrudgingly) and after using ZiPhone they were still there working happily. Like many others I was also skeptical of jailbreaking - was this just another hack/mod that didn’t really add any value to my iPod Touch? Would it screw it up, etc, etc? Jailbreaked it last night and spent most of the rest of the night exploring everything it had to offer. Decent games that don’t need a wi-fi connection to play, apps that are worth using, e-book readers, etc.
My advice is try it, see what you think, if you don’t like it you can always restore it back to native Apple. As for me, I’m keeping it.

Yes I have to admit- I am very scared :-)…. I have heard that peoples iPods can be like broken in the sense that iTunes doesn’t read them- they don’t charge or anything. So like then I’m screwed. Esspecially living overseas where I couldn’t get it reparied even if I wanted too… Umm yeah so I’m like uber worried about doing it.

Read my post about which jailbreak to use. Everyone has their own opinion on the jailbreaks…either way…you have to put time into it because you might have to restore and do it all over again. It’s all part of hacking. Hope all goes well!

Ok so just follow instructions above restore my ipod to factory settings, after I jailbreak my ipod how do I put what I had back on it, like music, videos, contacts, notes etc?
Just press sync in iTunes and it’ll sync everything you have on your computer too your iPod
Even if I didn’t sync to put music on, I just dragged and dropped music videos etc. the contacts and stuff I put in manually on the ipod. So i just press sync and it will load everything that I had on it before back on?
By the way thanks Prelenque for all the help. Along with everyone else. I am liking the feedback. I just have an extended warranty with future shop so I don’t want to void that and also I don’t want to lose my calender and contacts from there… very important..

Yes you will still have the applications when you restore your ipod, I had to restore mine and i only lost my music. The applications are still there as long as you paid for it and didn’t download from installer. Just restore in itunes and it will put those applications back on.

My suggestion would be- back up your iPod- then it should SHOULD have all the contacts, photos what not backed up- that is if you still have it on your computer- basically what it does is registers what the settings were and such and then if you restore it then it goes back to whenever you backed up.
To back up- press restore- then it SHOULD give an option to ‘back up’ accept that option then save the backup and when it restores it gives an option to use your previous back-up to go back to that stage with all your contacts etc.

Well in theory- just do Ziphone or whatever you use- then let it do it’s thing.
This isn’t first hand expierience here- I’ve just been reading a ton about jailbreaking etc. Just make sure you DON’T touch anything while it does it’s thing- that will probably cause it to have problems so just follow the instructions above to the letter.
Also theres lots of posts above about the same thing your wondering- so just look at them a bit

Are you on a wifi connection? Because to ‘download’ an app you need internet- what you installed with Ziphone or whatever only has the database not the actual files- so make sure your on a wifi connection..
Or you could try jailbreaking using iLibirty or another program.
Once you get Ziphone on your ipod touch do you have to be connected by wifi to get BSD Subsystem to install cause it tells me package download failed can’t find host. Some one help me I have tried reinstalling it over and over. So please help me. Thanks

Ziphone was so painless but I have to admit my hands were SHAKING! Wow… Scary but it was smoothe.
I was looking in Apps and I can’t find out how to get a background set up? I downloaded a background app from the featured section- and well it won’t uninstall well it does uninstall but the application button doesn’t dissapear? lol. Weird. I can live with it though..

I think I figured out your problem- I have the same one and I figured out what to do
What the problem is is that you have multiple downloads in your que and some reason it’s not wanting to download. So click clear all downloads- and then try a download- it should work now.
I was having the same problem and I’m like this is lame but I clicked clear que or whatever it says and then it worked after that.

Jake, i have a 16gig ipod touch. What did you use to jailbreak your iphone? Ziphone? As long as it is not unlocked and activated using that software and just jailbroken. Download iliberty and there is an option in there under one of the tabs at the top, the 3rd one i believe that has a bounch of options to force your iphone/itouch into recovery mode, DFU mode etc. Try forcing it into recovery mode and plugging into itunes. Or trying holding down the home and sleep buttons until the iphone turns black. then release the sleep button while still holding the home button and plug it into your computer with itunes open and it should detect it in recovery mode… let me know if any of them help. then just hit restore in itunes and it should work I think! goodluck

Umm Ryan- I know there is a way I just don’t know- check Youtube videos on ‘unbricking’ an iPod- also search it on Google or Yahoo! Answers. You should be able to find out how..
Hard Reset- stuff like that should fix it- rAwks assured me that it’s practically impossible to completely ‘brick’ your iPod- thats what gave me the courage to do it- I got lucky in not having any problems…

I just bought a Touch that is running jailbreak version 1.1.3 - the mail and maps apps still aren’t working..two questions - is it worth reverting to apple 1.1.4 and then running the Ziphone jailbreak - and if I do will I lose all the other apps I have installed…and if I do can i re-install them after I do the Ziphone procedure.

I don’t know why this happens, but I got this also. I just restored it and jailbreaked again. If it still does the same thing, use a different jailbreak like iLiberty or PWNAGE tool.

If you’re using 1.1.3 and everything is working well…I might as well stay on it. If things go wrong on your device, then update to 1.1.4 and then jailbreak using any of the jailbreaks. If you do update and jailbreak, you would have to install all the apps again. Hope all goes well!

hey rAwks, my girlfriend has the 8gb ipod touch (i have the 16gb) and i dont know what happened but the sound on tyhe music goes off and i can’t play any video of my library and youtube neither. please somebody help me, cause the ipod without the playing stuff is a crap!
What i found out about that crazy error code from itunes was it is all about the version of itunes you have. I tried to take some songs from my friends computer and i got that error for the first time. All they did was upgrade to the new itunes and it worked like a charm.

I had this problem also and was able to fix it in the end.
I restored an older firmware version: 1.1.1. To enter recovery mode, either run ziphone -D or hold the power and home button for a long while (even when the screen goes black) until you see the recovery screen (or connect to itunes screen). After the restore, just start up your ipod. Then, enter recovery mode again and restart the procedure but this time select firmware version 1.1.4.
After version 1.1.4 is installed run ziphone and jailbreak. It worked for me.

Also… It seems the error “Singleuser boot — fsck not done” resulted from an unsuccessful ziphone install because the root fs was mounted read only. While the ziphone installation script runs you can actually see loads of ” unable to create directory ” and ” directory not found ” messages. One of the first things the ziphone installation script does is to check the fs. But I wonder if it checks for it to be mounted read-only. Anyways, the procedure mentioned under post 324 worked and did not produce any errors during the installation script.

Try this…add this source http://iphone.koolz.net/index.xml and go into install tab. Find the folder it created (not sure what it’s called…maybe iPhoneKoolz). In that folder should be another iShare app. Try installing this one…it might work. I found this on iappcat.com. Hope all goes well!

I’m trying to NES for version 1.1.3 and 1.1.4 by MichI package, and the error I’m getting is saying, “that it’s expired” or sometimes says “can’t download” and I cleared the Queded and reset my Wi-Fi several times.

Maybe that source is not working right now. If you’re trying to get just the emulator, it should be in your Games folder on Installer. If you’re trying to get a NES ROM package, use my souce iappcat.com/r/6675. I also have the NES emulator on here too. Hope all goes well!

On the first box you can enter text…type in whatever app you want (Ex.=iShare). Then it’ll give you 3 choices for the ishare. I gave you the first one, so I’m going to give you the 2nd choice. Click on the 2nd one if you were to do this on your own. Then click repository. Then it’ll give you the repo to add to the source. The 2nd choice is the one that should be on your iPod already cause I think community sources includes Conceited Software source. That’s how you use iappcat.com. There’s also a video somewhere on iappcat.com that will show you how to use that site. Hope all goes well!

I’m glad things worked out for you. Unfortunately…you won’t be able to install a flash player onto your device. It’s not supported! Sucks! Well, you already have a youtube app, so that would just open up if you wanted to watch the videos. You can even download the youtube vids using MxTube. Hope all goes well!

Read my post about Emulators and ROMs. I have a source to install ROMs into your emulator (I think the NES ones ONLY work). I also include a few sites on where to download ROMs onto your comp to SSH them into your device. When people mention SSH, it means to use your computer to get access into your device. You can change permissions and transfer things around. Read Lone Stag’s post on SSH. Hope all goes well!

No it will not. If you update to a new firmware, you would have to jailbreak again. There are only jailbreaks out for the firmware that are out now, but the newer firmwares always get hacked. You just have to wait for it! Hope all goes well!

I don’t know if you can then retrieve the images onto your computer though… Look around for image grabber or something along those lines.. Check iAppCat as well…
theres a grab image app in the installer- I forgot the exact name and I don’t use it but it grabs images out of Safari and plops em into My Pictures

There are sources that put into Installer to add more applications into your installer. You can add sources by clicking on sources and then click edit…then add. You then add the repo you have. You can find out these repos through iappcat.com or google “sources for ipod touch”. Hope all goes well!

Uuuummm…that’s weird! Before in 1.1.1, I use to install things and it wouldn’t let me. It would do what’s going on with you…it would just crash installer and bring me back to the home screen. Also, once I installed an app and it didn’t finish it… then it was on my home screen. Even though it was on my home screen, it wasn’t even in my Uninstall tab, so I can uninstall it. It was weird! I think the reason this happened was because I didn’t have any more room for apps. I never knew about Bosstools to add more space to your device. Ever since I installed Bosstools for the later firmwares, I’ve NEVER had this problem again. Did you install Bosstools? Hope all goes well!

Are you saying the source doesn’t work or your keyboard freezes? If the contact trick doesn’t work…you might have to jailbreak again. If you used Ziphone and this doesn’t work…try using iLiberty. Hope all goes well!

1.1.5 isn’t out yet…I’m just guessing, but I don’t think there will be a 1.1.5. It might just already go to 2.0, since it’s suppose to be out July. You never know…I might be wrong and they might have a couple firmwares before the new 2.0. Everyone finds a way to hack the latest firmware…I heard people already jailbreaked 2.0, but there’s no apps compatible with it yet.
I used the iLiberty jailbreak and put on “bypass the iTunes activation process” and now iTunes doesn’t recognize my ipod at all, it says “iTunes could not connect to the iPod because an unknown error occured”, and you need iTunes to work your iPod, i’ve tried the hard reset 3 times and it keeps saying the same thing. Seriously, HELP!

Make sure to do the hard reset with your iPod plugged in. Try using a different jailbreak like Ziphone. Hope all goes well!

Adding sources just allows you to add more games and apps into installer. If you don’t add sources, it won’t kill ya…but you won’t be able to get some games and apps through other repos. There are a lot of good games out there…just go into the games folder. Hope all goes well!

When a new firmware comes out and you update, you will lose your jailbreak. Only update when there has been confirmation that that version is able to be hacked. Hope all goes well!

1. Music is not working or playing through headphones or speaker.
2. Youtube keeps saying “Cannot connect to YouTube” and I downloaded the youtube activator, but it still doesn’t work. Keeps saying that. Help!!! Any Sugesstions and Solutions???

I follow the suggestion from the previous postings by holding the power and the home key to stop the error from posting BSD root: md0, major 2, minor 0 over and over.
Now I am stuck with the recovery mode and I wasn’t planning to do a restore since it will wipe out my contents. Any suggestions of how to exit the recovery mode?

I’m using the current version of ZiPod posted on this site, i’ve followed all instructions up to the “With your plugged in iPod and ZiPhone running, click Jailbreak (the second action)”. Now my iPod Touch (8GB) screen is completly black with a white bar on left hand corner of the top…its been more than 1.5 minutes…i’ve restarted the hole thing a couple of times and same problem…whats up?

To need help:
Try booting your ipod into recovery mode. First you shut down your ipod touch by holding down both buttons until the screen completly shuts off. Then hold the home key and plug your ipod into your computer while itunes is NOT running and it will open and say blah blah blah ipod in recovery mode…I think you can do the rest, there are websites that you can google on how to do this.

cant download ziphone to mt comp i have i touch 8gig
in ziphone website its doesnot give me the option to download mac or win i have web site but not win or mac
im having a problem with mine and need some help, everytime i try to add a source so that i can download the iPod 1.1.4 apps it adds the source and then says ‘refreshing sources’ and gets to the end but just never ends and the only way to cancel it is to reset, then when i go to look at the sources the website i added is there but it comes up as ‘uncategorized’ and i cant edit it or download any sources from it. How long do i have to wait for it to refresh the sources? and is it because im not using a proper wifi connection, im connection sharing with my MacBook?
any suggestions would be great!
I also seem to be having a problem that everytime i update installer once ive updated it when i go to open it it just crashes and i have to reset my iPod.

My ipod touch (8g) was running perfectly. The programs that i have downloaded works fine. however, i can not download anymore contents. I def have Wi-fi (since safari and weather works and i can refresh the sources) however whenever i try to download more stuff, it says “package download failed” just that message. I tried restarting the ipod i have enough memory.. i followed all the steps up there… can you help me? i try using other wi-fi sources but they don’t work either.
O MY GOSH…. my ipod is sending on all kinds of texts and i cant shut it off!!!!! i accidently took to the chord off while it was unlocking and it keeps putting the same text on the ipod and now i cant get out of it. iot wont show on my itunes so i can restore. i disconnected because it took to long and had some weird problems. i want to know how to shut the thing off or restore it so i can restart everything cause i cant do anything it justs show the same text. the jailbreak took so long lol.

I didn’t want to write to each one individual, since the last time I commented…it’s been a while. So…I would’ve probably left the last 20 comments or so. Well, most of everyone’s problems solution is just to HARD RESET, RESTORE, AND JAILBREAK AGAIN! With the keyboard freeze, if it’s acting up…do it again. Before you get into Installer the next time, go on contacts and do the keyboard fix solution we posted up before. Make sure to be within Wifi to use Installer or else it won’t work or it’ll be slow. Also, if you get an error when you install something…it’s either you have something in your queue or that source isn’t working quite well…wait a little bit. Uuuuummm…if you’re on 1.1.4 already, you do not have to restore it before you jailbreak…just jailbreak it. If your device is slow or it doesn’t play music…do the hard reset, restore, and jailbreak again. If you don’t like the jailbreak you used…just say you used Ziphone…then try out iLiberty. Jailbreaking will take lots of times and many pros and cons…it’s your choice to do it. Hope all goes well!

every iPod have an 300mb storage of programs. it seems ike you used all taht so you cant install nothing anymore. so…RESTORE and jailbreak it again, and then install (cause you already can`t) the BossTool and you gonna have the free disk space option.

part and my screen kept freezing
so i would restart it and it would keep freezing when i would try to type
so i went back to the Ziphone screen and hit the unlock and activate button
now itunes wont recognize it and the screens just USD ROOT Djalksdjsalkdjakfjakjda blah

Actually I just redid it, and it works perfect. Only prob now is that the Music icon doesnt change when using different summerboard themes. Is there a patch for this like I see there is one for the weather icon?

Every time I tried to put in the source that was provided above, it kept on freezing when I tried to type it in… I tried at least 10 times and it never worked… What do I do?
When installing ZiPhone 3.0, the sources no longer function, and it cannot download any of the packages. However, there is a Installer 3.1 update that will download, but as soon as you download it, the iPod Touch freezes constantly and performs terribly. Going into the Wifi settings will cause it to freeze, and going into the Installer will cause it to freeze. I didn’t want to find out what else would make it freeze, so I reverted back until there is an Installer update again.

I tried this and it keeps replaying the same code over and over again for about 10min. BSD root: md0, major 2, minor 0 I can not get it to stop even when i stop the process…if i turn it off ans turn the ipod back on it restarts again and i cant get it to do anything else at alll….

ok so i followed the instructions to the letter, and everything was fine until i replugged my ipod into my computer and opened itunes. i got an error from itunes saying “Itunes cannot read the contents of the ipod ‘mark’s ipod’. Go to the summary tab in ipod preferences and click restore to restore ipod to factory setting.”
any ideas on how to fix this?

the first attempt in doing this it repeadedly froze after installing the january apps, so im repeating the process to see if i can get it to work now
when all else fails hold power and home button at once then go to itunes restore to original and rehack till u r successful and after u get it right never restore or else go thru same b.s. again it is simple i sync all songs contacts as if nothing has been done to my ipod touch
when using game apps go to settings and turn autolock to never or lose place in game

hey i used ziphone everything went great for 4 days then my ipod stopped itself and went in recovery mode , i can restore it but then it goes back to recovery mode , i used hard reset , it opend my ipod like it normally did , but it turns of frequently , what am i supposed to do , i like my ipod touch so much , its ashame that this happend to me , btw its an 16 gig touch , thanks for reading

just tried to download the ziphone…..everything went well …got the downloaded started and it was going fine….words coming up on my screen but then it stopped and wasnt doing anything. I waited 5 minutes (the installer said wait 3) and nothing happened. Ok, after running ziphone for a little bit I unplugged my touch and now this series of white letters wont go awhile…it has something like this. “Singleuser boot — fsck not done

But my computer or iTuens doesn’t recognize the ipod when i connect it. Someone please help.

Fixed it hard reset worked for anyone else that has this problem - plug ur ipod into ur pc and hold the home and the power button at top it will tun off the ipod and rebot - dont let ur fingers go do this 3 times and it will show up on ur itunes again

I have a question. Am I doing something wrong, or is there a way to sync music with Itunes and with Amarok (or gtkpod) in linux. I can jailbreak using ziphone, or any others that are out and have the bsd subsystem and openssh for wireless sync with linux. I even done the firewireguid deal. I can get music to apear and play on my jailbroken touch 1.1.4 from linux, but when I then try to sync it also with itunes, itunes says it can’t read it and it need to restore the device. is there something i’m leaving out, or is it just not possible to do both? (ps. I am also running the svn of libgpod and gtkpod. I heard you had to run svn of them)

But now… Nothing seems to have changed on my home page. I don’t have any new applications (just the ones that I had after jailbreaking) though when I access Installer, there they are on the uninstall section.
What’s going on? Should I reset the poor thing?

Add the source
In Installer, go to Install, All Packages, then install BossTool <—did this already
Once installed, click home and let the iPod refresh
Click BossTools, Free Disk Space, then Relocate Fonts <—did this already
You can then uninstall BossTool in Installer in the Uninstall tab
and when I try to get into the install tab it freezes. Help?

Has anyone had any problems where Itouch does not sync their music or podcasts correctly following a Ziphone jailbreak? Works fine when restored, but when jaibroken, all the media with the exception of videos is accessible only under the “Recently Added?” playlist

The easiest thing to do would be to restore your ipod and then start the instillation process again

Having issues with my latest Ipod Touch jailbreak. I used ZiPhone, 2 versions and used iLiberty and nothing seems to work. It installs it, no problem but when I try to go into the installer it asked if I should donate i say later and then refresh the sources, after that it freezes on my when I try to go back into installer. Nothing seems to be working, After it freezes I press the power and home button at the same time, it restarts then takes forever to get back to the main screen. Can someone help me. I need help I just got a 32 gig I touch and it just freezes on me. I have restored it like 10 times and it just stays frozen on the slide to unlock screen. If im lucky it will slide and unlock but stay frozen if I try to go to the settings or just access the music button. If I try to shut it off the slide to power off screen stays on and it wont shut off. What am I supposed to do, my i touch is like 5 days old…man this blows

First when i connect it to itunes, ir starts to sync and message appears that says “the destination folder could not be reached” and that sync failed or “iPod could not be found”. Pls help! I have an 8 gig iPod Touch. I followed the directions step by step and Jailbreak work fine the first time. The only small problem I had was with Summerboard and the themes. I did a hard reset (Hold button and top Sleep button) and now everything works great Thanx to the folks who put this out. It’s awesome!!

ok i think i have the answer. u must attach ur ipod to the computer. its ok if it doesnt show up on itunes. then hold the home button and on/off button at the same time until the icon with itunes and cord. then it should show up on itunes. click restore hope it helped. i suggest not to use this site

ps. i got the touch as a graduation present and now if i broke it only two days later i would hate myself forever. and since the extended warrenty expires on any third party caused problems i can not send it in to be replaced.

Still finding it difficult to understand what you mean Shay, What do you mean ” The Ipod Hang”????? What do you mean??? Hold down the home button and on/off button untill the itunes logo appears. Let go of on/off and keep home pressed down. This should “factory reset” the ipod so to speak. Once you have your original screen back connect to i-tunes and then factory reset the ipod.
After the Ipod is back to original state try reading this forum from the beggining. Alot of people are only reading parts of this and trying to run before they can walk. It clearly states all this in earlier posts from the genius that created this site!!!
There are two different ways to jailbreak your ipod, try the other version to the one that has not worked this time! simple!
So, I got my iPod jailbroken and installed some apps, but then I plugged the iPod back in my computer and I can’t sync it. It only has the restore option. What do I do to allow myself to sync again?

You won’t lose your January upgrade apps. I just jailbroke my 1.1.4 16gig Touch and it worked like a charm. Just follow the instructions that are on this site(minus the part about getting the January apps because you already have them). Top of this page, Latest Jailbreak 1.1.4 Method.

I followed the steps in exact order (3 times now) on an ipod touch 1.14 and kept running into the same problem. When I got to this step “To get the January apps, go to the sources tab and click edit, and add http://ipodtouchmaster.com/files/repo.xml ” the unit would just freeze up while typing in the address. After a few times wrestling with this issue I have discovered that the unti locks up ANY time the keyboard appears on any application or function.
Any ideas?

Sorry…just read further up the reply thread and found the reference to the keyboard crash loop. I will start over and follow that and see how it goes.
Sorry if I sound a little slow, but in stage 4 it says ‘In the Install tab, go to iPhone 1.1.4 Applications and install iPhone 1.1.4 Apps’. Everything has worked up until this stage but I can’t find any iPhone 1.1.4 Applications it’s just all the Development, Dictionaries, eBooks etc.. What am I doing wrong?!

the first time i did this, after adding the first source it asked me to update installer, which i did. this made my ipod touch completely unstable, froze all the time, unuseable. i restored it and have no updated installer, and so far all is well. thanks =)

Hi I have a 32gb iTouch and my son has a 8Gb one. I plan on Jailbreaking mine and told my son to wait till I try it out first in fear of having it broken. From what I have read there are 2 main jailbreaker codes, from Ziphone and iLiberty. There is not a lot of forums for iLiberty, but more for Ziphone, yet I sense that iLiberty is more user friendly. I was leaning towards Iliberty, but cannot find the site. Any recomendations or tips.

There are many pros and cons for both Ziphone and iLiberty. Since you haven’t done anything yet, you can try out the new jailbreak WinPwn. Lone Stag (another writer) posted a post with step by step. WinPwn fixes the bugs that usual appear with Ziphone and iLiberty. Try it out! Hope all goes well!

It fixed itself after a day, asking for an upgrade so everything’s fine. I still wanna know what apps help with my iTouch I heard something about BossTools? Anyway danine, wires came out? That’s pretty bad… I don’t think you can save it. Describe it in more detail please.

4. Get it Running
In installer, go to the Install tab, click all packages, and install BSD Subsystem
To get the January apps, go to the sources tab and click edit, and add http://ipodtouchmaster.com/files/repo.xml
In the Install tab, go to iPhone 1.1.4 Applications and install iPhone 1.1.4 Apps
Add the source
In Installer, go to Install, All Packages, then install BossTool
Once installed, click home and let the iPod refresh
Click BossTools, Free Disk Space, then Relocate Fonts
You can then uninstall BossTool in Installer in the Uninstall tab

hold down the home key and power off button until the screen goes black.
when black, DO NOT PRESS DOWN THE POWER KEY. hold the home key and at the exact same time insert the USB plug into the bottom.
when it shows its in recovery mode, turn on itunes and restore your ipod.

ANY problem you come across…I recommend doing a hard reset. This fixes pretty much everything. If Ziphone and iLiberty has caused you pain and stress…then use WinPwn. LoneStag posted up an awesome post with step by step instructions. Hope all goes well!

i figured it out for everyone whose ipod said couldn’t find host. you have to reenter the serial number on your computer to unlock the server for wifi because when it resets your ipod it forgets the wifi password!
please if anyone knows anything please help me out. should i just let the battery run out and then try connecting it to my computer? or will it just do the same thing? i just need to know how i can get it to my itunes so i can restore it. thanks.

i have a desktop, a hp laptop running windows vista and my 8 gb ipod touch.
where do i find the number and wherre do i enter it???
if you have a 2 wire adapter or any type of wireless internet look on the bottom of it and there should be a serial number. there will be 2 different sets of numbers if one doesn’t work try the other. it looks like a really small sticker with a bar code. just go to settings on your ipod home screen and select wifi and look at all the 2wire things and the one with the strongest signal is probally your computer. select it and enter the serial no. as your password and it should work
ok but the only problem is that i just set it up and i have a d link router and it is unsecured or has no passowrd. should i just maybe turn off wi fi nad try to turn it back on?

Yes, this voids the warranty, but I believe there are ways to restore your iPod to its original state so that there’s no evidence of jailbreaking.
Just jailbroke my ipod using these steps and it seemed to be working fine at first , i had even downloaded a few things but now my touch is like messed up . I can touch the apps on the home page but once i go into something for example music or safari i can not touch anything anymore . Somebody help please ?

ok i figured out a little problem. when you go to download the “important” packages, you MUST clear your Queue before you download them. this worked for me. but i am still having problems with the other packages
I FIGURED IT OUT!!! when you want to down load a package it will go to that one page where it will say install on the top right.STOP you must go to the bottom of the page and look at the sources. NOW if the source on the package dose not match one of the sources in the source tab… IT WONT WORK. instead add the source and it should work
this is the 2nd time jailbreaking my iPod touch and it keeps freezing. It will stay active for about a minute and a half then freezes. The first time was perfect untill a message kept popping up every time i tried to install/uninstall an app saying that it cannot connect to the host; so i decided to (try to) wipe the slate clean and try again.. but know im frozen solid..

ok well this is a bumber because when i ran ziphone, it went backinto recovery mode so i had to reboot it again after i installed a few things. how do ikeep it out of recovery mode when running ziphone???
So I’ve tried iliberty+ and ziphone and i’ve had the same problem… The jailbreaking goes smoothly and everything seems fine but when I go into installer it stalls every time. Like I can look around for a few seconds but it stalls everytime I can’t figure out what’s going on. I just got my iPod touch the 1.1.4 (with software upgrade) firmware. Any help?

Bhumi, i had the same problem with my ipod. what you have to do is plug it into your computer. then on the ipod, you must hold down the home button(at the front bottom of the ipod) and also at the same time hold down the power button(top of ipod). now hold those two untill the ipod screen go’s black. then release the power button but HOLD THE HOME BUTTON. your ipod should enter recovery mode and itunes will pop up. select the restore button. and there you go it should be fixed.
madison, when you add a source you go to the installer tab which should be in your home page thingi of your ipod.
then you should see a page pop up and at the bottom it has 5 options 1.featured 2.install 3.update 4.uninstall and 5.sources. first go to the install tab. and scroll down intill you find the sources clip in the install tab. just install the sources and you should be fine.

Like many people I’m having issues going into the installer. I’ve done the Ziphone and the winpwn methods but both end up with my ipod frozen and me being very angry. I’m assuming it’s because I have firmware 1.114 (with software upgrade). Anyone know where I can get the 1.1.4 firware ispw file without the upgrade??

Jonas, yes you can get your warranty back by restoring your ipod touch just follow the steps on #744 and you should be good
