Ok so my iPod touch is already jailbroken to the 2.0.2 version so if I upgrade to itunes 8.0 will my ipod still function correctly with it. Second question is if the next jailbreak for 2.1 will require us to have itunes 8.0?
-
Yes Same question about the Jailbroken Upgrade for me but I doubt it would work…
-
damn! too quick on updating my Touch… how long I’ll need to wait before I can use the next quickpwn…
-
ya same questions as the other guys… if I update will it work with the hack and when do you think the new quickpwn will come out
-
So, what’s your guess on how long it should take for the new iTunes to be pwnable, and when will the new 2.1 firmware be pwnd?
-
Don’t you feel con by Apple with all the new features they are adding into it? Only bought mine like 3-months ago.
-
To Brandon:
Go ahead and upgrade. It will still work.
YEs, it will require the new iTunes. -
To Anyone:
Whenever they update WinPwn will be when the new iTunes/firmware is hackable
-
yup, as Lone Stag mentions, running the upgrade on the Ipod Touch to 2.1 works just fine.

i just bought my ipod off my brother and it has the 1.1.5 version..i think i have the 8.0 itunes (has the genius sidebar)im just wondering what i should use to jailbreak my ipod..
-
like should i update it to 2.1 or wat?
-
So, I just had my ipod swapped out because of a hardware failure and the replacement has, of course, 2.1 on it. Is there an instruction set for those of us that got 2.1 through no fault of our own? Would prefer to downgrade and jailbreak (was jailbroken before) … sorry, I know no one wants to write interim instructions!

Hi all,
I got one of the newest iPod touchs yesterday. Its one of the 2nd generation 32gb ones.
I do not know much about iPods, but lots about computers. However, I learned from the post above that iTunes8 (might be installed by standard on mine) is kinda restrictive to customisations of the iPod.
Jailbreak your pod seems to mean that you can install custom software on it without using the package manager that is on the thingy. right?
Could I jailbreak mine as it is, now. I do not want to destroy it after 24 hours because its so damn cool, but I would like to be able to use scummvm and all those old games on it.
How can I find out which firmware (or however you call it in ipod language) is installed on it?
Thanks,
nerdButIpodNewbie -
for everybody that has ipod or iphone software version 2.1 you do not have to downgrade. i have version 2.1 and used the quickpwn from this site (http://www.quickpwn.com/2008/09/jailbreak-ipod-touch-21.html) and mine works just fine. i don’t know if this has anything to do with the new itunes but i also have itunes version 8.0 and again my jailbroken ipod works without any errors and genius still works on the ipod. it has not affected the way in which the ipod communicates with itunes and still gives you cydia, installer, and replaces your boot logos. this quickpwn also works with both versions of the iphone (2G &3G).
-
sorry all. i wasn’t aware that apple had released the second generation ipod touch. i’m not sure if that versioin of quickpwn will work with them or not. i have the first generation touch and that is all that i have tested it on. good luck to everyone.

@nerdButIpodNewbie
You cannot jailbreak the NEW 2ND GEN IPOD TOUCH, as per my post above yours…. Jailbreak only works on 2.1 1st gen touchs, 1st and 2nd gen iPhones
@Sean
the new itunes doesnt have a problem restoring custom firmwares to iphones/ipod touches when they have already been pwned before with a custom firmware. The only problem is restoring to a custom firmware when the device is NOT pre-pwned. Obviously to overcome this, QuickPWN is the way to jailbreak.
-
2.1 is jailbroken. i have jailbreaked it and itunes 8 works too for cracked apps and other cool stuff visit http://www.ifortnerforum.com
-
@Sean
Whats the new feature on the new touch that permits the jailbreaking then? What are the odds for jailbreaking it, soon? -
@nerdButipodNewbie
ummmm i’m not really sure but i think it has something to do with it running on the new itunes (8.0) only. they are apparently having have a great deal of difficulty with hacking the ipod when using the new itunes but i really don’t know anything about any of that. all i can say is to give them time and somebody will figure it out. People are very crafty : ) -
I would like more attention paid to the Mac when it comes to the jailbreaking software.

i need help / instructions to jailbreak my ipod please!! send me a message bob.cool40@yahoo.com
THANKS IF YOU CAN HELP ^_^

To Holistic Jedi:
You only need to ensure you have the latest firmware (2.1 for now), iTunes 8 and Quickpwn (windows) OR PwnageTool (mac) installed.
Simply connect your ipod to your computer and execute the software. Follow the instructions closely (it’s more stable to choose to install both the Installer and Cydia) and your ipod is jailbroken within minutes. Uber cool.
What you need to do after that, is to explore Cydia and learn how to use it.
