An article at Cnn Money talks about the possibility of Apple opening up the iPhone (and iPod Touch) for third party applications. They would open them up with the release of their new OSx Leopard in 3 weeks. It mentions how major publishers have been rumored to be working on software for the iPod OS including EA. What do you think… Will Apple finally allow native third party applications?

About time!! That would be great.

I really hope they do this. There really isn’t any reason why they shouldn’t. More people will buy the product if it’s more versatile.

Dude… please let it be so… As a web developer… if they can at least put Apache on there, I can create some great apps to run on a great mobile browser.

This would be amazing!
Please Author keep your blog updated

Great, but I hope Apple allows free (both gratis and libre) software. I wonder if they will “authenticate” only for a fee?

I would love to be able to install third party apps on my ipod just I would love it if I could pick and choose what I wanted from anywhere and not from only a list of “Officially Licensed Products” The way apple usually does things.

Sort of off topic, but i don’t see a contact page anywhere– Apple is supposedly adding new appointment support for the calender the their next update. Make of it what you will: http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=365304
