Dev Team has released PwanageTool 3.1.4. Unfortunately, there is still no support for the iPod Touch 3G. But for the majority of users their latest release will do. Here is summary by the Dev Team:

iPhone 3G

Use PwnageTool to do the magic and then restore with iTunes using your newly created .ipsw

iPhone 3G(S)

Use PwnageTool to do the magic and then restore with iTunes using your newly created .ipsw

iPhone 2G (1st Generation)

Use PwnageTool to do the magic and then restore with iTunes using your newly created .ipsw ‘nuff said, you don’t need to worry about anything, the baseband will be unlocked, the phone jailbroken.

iPod Touch 1G (Original iPod Touch)

Use PwnageTool to create a firmware image and restore with that .ipsw using iTunes.

iPod Touch 2G

Use PwnageTool to create a firmware image and restore with that .ipsw to your already jailbroken device using iTunes.

iPod Touch 3G

At this time PwnageTool does not support this device.

* the above applies to devices that HAVE BEEN PREVIOUSLY JAILBROKEN. There is no current program that will jailbreak iPod Touches who have not jailbroken before, but the dev team said they will make one if demand peaks.

* PwnageTool will create your .ipsw. Then go into iTunes and hold down shift will clicking restore to locate the .ipsw.

hey man, thanks for the update. except that i am not exactly sure on how to do the process. my ipod 2 gen has already been jailbroken, i have downloaded the tool and got a .dmg file, i used power iso to extract the pwnage tool but what from there? do i have to update the ipod to 3.1.2 via itunes and then jailbrake it?

i know how. you go to blackra1n.com and download blackra1n and then right click it on your home screen and then click on run as adninistrator and then something will pop up that says something and just click allow and then click make it ra1n. and then a picture of a guy will pop up and then press and hold the sleep button and the home button at the same time and when it comes back on you will see an app that has a picture of a black raindrop on it. click on that and click on ONLY the first box. it should say cydia. well any way click on the one that says cydia. and then press the home button and you will see an app that says cydia. and now YOU ARE JAILBROKEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The best way now (9/1-10) to jailbreak your ipod 3gen 32 and 64 gb is with Sn0wbreeze. The 8 GB 3 gen shouldn’t be a problem with Blackrain beacause it’s technically a 2 gen… sorry to tell u 8 gb owners.
Check the Dinozambas videos on youtube and from there u should be taken care of.

I jailbroke my Itouch 8gb with Blackra1n but I didn’t realize you have to reboot or reflash with Blackra1n every time you turn the I-touch power on. You may get this question a lot, but I got my ipod touch 3rd gen 8G jailbroken by a friend with black rain twice now, and every time something messed up. It kept wanting to reboot, and then the second time, I wasn’t even able to download cydia from black rain due to some memory error or something( I didn’t even use one gig on it yet). Does anyone know a quick fix to keep it jailbroken and be able to efficiently use all the apps without having to restart it? (I’ve found restarting it, shutting it off, or letting it die makes it automatically reboot.) any help would be appreciated.

I have iPod 3g 64gb and had no problem jailbreaking with blackrain. I honestly don’t understand all the hype. Yeah, I can download some more apps that aren’t offered in the app store. Cool, but not that cool. I think those that have an iPhone may benefit more from this because there are phone/camera related items that prove more worthy. I use my iPod mostly for Music and movies. Games are ok but don’t come close to what my PSP has to offer. So for you with iPod’s wanting to jailbreak and having problems, you aren’t really missing that much.

There’s now apparently a functional bluetooth keyboard app for the jailbroken iPhone/iPod Touch, selling for $5 on the Cydia store! (tho iTouch 3rdG is not yet supported.) I’d love to get this this thing, and one of the many BT keyboards it’s know to work with, but my iPod Touch 2nd Gen has never been jailbroken, which is a source of grief for me because the widely recommended PWNage Tool 3.1.4 only works on iTouches which have already been jailbroken… tho it would be great if they’d come out with a version of the PWNage tool which I could use…

Does anyone know any solution to this problem? Maybe another jailbreaking tool which would safely do the job? A sequence of jailbreaking operations using a series of earlier PWNage tools? TIA for all suggestions!

ur iPod will have a pic of a weirdo called goehot who invented blackra1n
i can’t remembr wat 2 do from there
ask someone else or just click stuff
if ur iPod ever stops doin stuff and just shows a blank screen hold down the on/off button and the home button 4 about 10 seconds untill something happens
u will lose everything on ur iPod though so u should sync it to ur pc first
when ur iPod comes back 2 life there should b a black raindrop app on ur springboard
tap it
tap cydia
if u hav an iPhone tap the third icon that is not shown on iPods ( not the one that says rock it’s crap)
tap install
wait 4 it to do it
Check that cydia app is now on ur springboard
u can delete the blackra1n app if u wish (ur iPod will still be jailbroken)
sync ur iPod to ur pc
TADA!!! Ur iPod or iPhone should now be jailbroken (hopefully)
some iPods will have a tethered jainbreak and so if ur iPod urns off you will simply have to connect ur iPod to ur pc and click on the blackra1n program and make it rain again (all of ur apps and stuff will still b on ur iPod if it does turn off)
if this is succesful u should b able to use that tool thingy which I haven’t used and so will not be able to help u with that

u need iTunes cos I think all of ur data on ur ipod is deleted
when it says u Hav a 16gb iPod but u only hav 14.5 or something it’s cos the other part of the capacity of it is for the settings and the stuff that actually make ur iPod work
the 16gb is the whole system memory

Guys, I just got my new iPod Touch (Third Generation) 32GB.
I have taken the time to read all fo these comments and I see that 99% of you all need the the thrid generation iPod Touch’s jailbroken… So do I.
I did some research and this is what I found:

1) New Jailbreak (and the only one so far that will be around) for the iPod Touch (Third Generation) will be release in April 2010.

2) There is no way to Jailbreak the iPod Touch (Third Generation) by downgrading the firmware from 3.1.3 (the original firmware that it comes with) to 3.1.2. (You can only downgrade if your iPod Touch is a Second Generation that accidently upgraded from the original 3.1.2 firmware that it had to 3.1.3)

3) Don’t attempt to Jailbreak your iPod Touch (Third Generation) right now when there is no Jailbreak for it because if you attempt to Jailbreak your iPod Touch (Third Generation) with blackrain and the other programs that were intended for any models below iPod Touch (Third Generation), you may permanently damage your iPod Touch (Third Generation) and possibly not be able to restore it (not even through DFU mode).

4) I would suggest waiting for the new and only Jailbreak for the iPod Touch (Third Generation). I’m waiting patiently, even though I am extremely bummed out for not being able to having it Jailbroken any soon.

I hope up I cleared up ALOT of questions. All it took me was some research that some of you were too lazy to do.

I’ve got a touch, 3rd gen, 8gb, happily running black ra1n and cydia. You just click make it rain twice and it works perfect, it’s just a minor hitch. Make sure you set iTunes not to open automatically though, as this as really annoying. If it goes wrong, you can always wipe it and start again! You just google black ra1n and go to the first one, install it and then connect the iPod, disable automatic opening of iTunes when connected, click make it rain, wait, click it again and then wait and youre done! If you need to turn it off, just follow the steps again. I recommend installing cydia via the iPhone app!

First off let me start off by saying hi, and that I am a well known hardware hacker/reverse engineer for cable modems, gaming consoles, dish hacking, and have coded some of the old firmwares used on the WiiKey, and written several hooks for online games such as COD, counter-strike, and other various hooks for online poker, etc etc. Some of you may have heard about me or have read on the news, for those of you who do not know me, you will like me for this.

If anyone plans on stealing my work for their own, or selling this content to make profit, I will take down the server and this method will not work anymore. Please make this fair for everyone, I don’t care if you use this method to jailbreak your friends ipod touch or iphone but please do not rip me off, I worked hard on this.

The 3.1.3 firmware is bad, but since I came up with a solution, its really not all that bad anymore…. LOL@APPLE!! I did it ONLY FOR 3.1.2 and nothing earlier. This solution may work for the iPhone as well, but have not fully tested it, due to my lack of knowledge with baseband and bootroms for the phone. Since there are endless fools on YouTube claiming to have a fix for the 3.1.3 disaster, please make videos and give credit to me and GeoHot to draw more users to this awesome site.

Ok guys, here it is… So you let your iPod Touch/iPhone 3G/3GS update to 3.1.3 firmware and your feeling pretty damn unlucky. Thinking that your jailbreaking days are over. Well guess what, you are in luck, keep reading.

I called Apple support today to see if there was anything they could do to downgrade me, the initial support rep said sure, boy was I in for a surprise… So come to find out Apple does it on purpose (haha who would have thought) right? After being on hold etc, I then talked to a senior rep who told me that theres an encryption on the newer firmware (big mistake for sharing that with me ) This is how I came to learn that I would have to put some extra effort in to this.

Anyways, after hours of researching and tinkering around with hex editors and different iTunes SW versions, and encryption software, I had a revelation.. The iPod Touch 3G CAN BE DOWNGRADED TO 3.1.2!!! This is good news because jailbreaking just came back to life, follow my steps, as I have done for my iPod Touch 3G 64GB.

1. I believe you can use the newest version of iTunes but I am unsure, give it a shot – If you are using the newest version of iTunes (9.1 I think) uninstall it, and all registry values associated with it, also delete bonjour service, quicktunes, and whatever else bs software they install by default. Run a registry cleaner to ensure it is gone, go through program files and delete the old folder of iTunes. Restart PC.

2. Download the 3G iPod Touch 3.1.2 firmware below.

3. Search torrents, or any available site for iTunes 9.0.0.70 or anything below 9.1, if you use an older iTunes firmware it will tell you that you need 9.0 or later.

4. Now that you have iTunes installed, and the firmware that you desire, we can proceed to an extremely crucial step to avoid being updated by Apple’s evilness once and for all!

5. Open up iTunes, ensure that your iPod Touch is NOT CONNECTED! Go to the top bar, click edit, then go to preferences, make sure that Check for updates automatically is UNCHECKED!!

6. This next part is my own personal discovery which I will not expose here for obvious reasons, I will however explain what I learned through this process, Apple in all their glory decided that they would put an end to downgrading firmware in hopes to combat jailbreaking/unlocking, in doing so they force iTunes to check for the latest available update which currently is 3.1.3, so when a normal user tries to use the 3.1.2 file normally, they get a message saying that “iPod Touch could not be restored this device is not eligible for the requested build” So that got me worried, thinking, and quite pissed off that my jailbreaking days were done. So I then put my hacking skills to the test.

7. For PC users open up CWindows\System32\drivers\etc\hosts

8. Open the file in a text editor and add the following entry at the bottom of the file:

74.208.105.171 gs.apple.com

Then save the file..

9. This ip address was created by myself to help others out since apple drove me to the edge with that message. It is completely safe to use, and I do NOT TRACK, but for precautions I recommend you use a proxy, if you are really that paranoid. Now to the next part.

10. Make sure you save all your music/movies/pics, etc using a separate program, I use Xilisoft iPod Rip, this will allow you to backup all your files to your computer.

11. Now that you have all your stuff saved to your desktop, we can continue to open up iTunes and leave 3.1.3 in the DUST!

12. With iTunes open, and your 3.1.2 file downloaded, attach your iPod Touch, click on your Devices tab and go to summary page for your device, where you will see Restore, DO NOT CLICK IT JUST YET! First, hold down the Shift Key on your keyboard, while holding the shift key, click Restore, you will see a box popup asking you to choose a file or firmware, choose the 3.1.2 file or 3.1.1 whichever you want. It will go through its normal process, only this time, you will be allowed to because I SAID SO. Apple has failed yet again in their feat to take down jailbreaking.

Now that you have the desired firmware, we can now run blackra1n and install Cydia, Winterboard, **********, etc. NOTE: In Cydia, it will tell you at the top that “This device has SHSHs on file for iPhone OS: 3.1.2, 3.1.3 Which leads me to believe that this method will work for the iPhone 3GS as well.

I take full credit for this guide, I developed this method on my own with no help from anyone. Credit is given to GeoHot for blackra1n software, I take and assume full responsibility for this post.

Ok I have updated my ipod touch to 4.0 from itunes (hopefully I didn’t do anything extreme there that you nerds can’t fix)
Now that I’ve given you guys this information I would like to know how to jailbreak it…
The only reason I need this jailbroken is so I can use it as a storage device cause apple can’t do a ******* thing right!
Hopefully if apple updates and adds a disk space option I won’t need to jailbreak my ipod touch
