Although Software update 3.1 is really nice and sparkly, I would advise against the update (but don’t freak out if you have because who knows how long it will take for the dev team to release more comprehensive news concerning the iPod Touch Hack in specific). Here are a few words from the Dev Team:
If you update to Apple’s new software using the normal iTunes process, you will lose your ultrasn0w unlock. In fact you may lose it permanently, because for most people the baseband firmware cannot be reverted to a previous version (unlike the main application CPU firmware).
But don’t worry…our PwnageTool program — when it’s updated for 3.1 — will let you update your main firmware without touching your baseband firmware, so you can still have the best of both worlds. But you must be diligent about saying “no” to your iTunes request this week to update your firmware.
Update: We’re currently working on PwnageTool for 3.1, and will be sure to let you know when it’s available!
So for iPhone users – Definitely do not update
for iPod users – ehhh, it would not be the end of the world.

iPods
So, the new iPods are in. At first glance, I was kind of disappointed; the second time I looked, I wasn’t quite as disappointed. Apple has been very frugal in their latest batch of new hardware. My greatest displeasure comes from the new iPod Touch. . . IT HAS NO CAMERA (not to mention the exclusion of a compass and FM radio). Although they did add a mic, voice control, a faster processor, better graphics, and better wi-fi, a camera would have been appropriate as well.
Apple did do a good job with the new iPod Nano – its got a video camera and radio.
The iPod classic merely got a gigabyte update and price reduction.
iTunes 9
While the iPods did not do so well, iTunes got some major updates. Genius, for one, has become brilliant.
iTunes LP is cool for those willing to spend a little extra to get access to interviews, flashy lyrics, a band-based home screen design, and other cool stuff.
The iTunes store has become much more user-friendly (especially with song previews)
Genius Mix – creates whole albums of genius based playlists.
Improved syncing – faster and more user friendly.
A wish list - good business for Apple

The Dev team, upon the release of Snow Leopard, also has some additional good news to announce: Snow Leopard “poses no new wrinkles for the redsn0w jailbreak or ultrsn0w unlock”.
- You can use redsn0w to jailbreak any iPhone or iPod Touch using OS X, Windows, or Linux. For both 3.0 and 3.0.1 firmwares, you should point redsn0w at the 3.0 IPSW. If you see it hang at “waiting for reboot”, just unplug and replug that USB cable.
- You can use ultrasn0w to unlock the iPhone 3G/3GS, or BootNeuter to unlock the iPhone 2G. Both ultrasn0w and BootNeuter are available via Cydia.
- You can use PwnageTool for Mac to create custom IPSWs with pre-installed packages.

Although Apple has not yet confirmed this date, it is expected that the next “release party” is to be on September 9th. On this day, Apple’s top release will most likely be the iPod 3G . They will mprobably also update the rest of iPod line. Whats more, it is also believed that the Beatles are finally coming to Itunes. Personally, I hope that they remaster this old Band and bring its sub-par quality up to current standards.
Oh, and Facebook 3.0 is finally in the horizon. A much needed update considering the current version does not support much that makes Facebook so cool.
Itunes 9 is rumored to have facebook support as well…. but don’t bet too much on this haha. It seems like a far shot.
Apple also released a software update that fixes the beeping and hard drive freezing issue that has been occurring on many 15in. MacBook Pros with the 7200RPM 500Gb Hard drive.
Snow Leopard is expected to be released August 28th, why…. I don’t know.

iMac – Probable due for Blu-Ray update
Google Voice – Planned to be remade in the form of a web-app
8gb iPhone 3Gs – Contrary to my previous statement, I have now heard that it may just be a rumor. But, it is still up in the air.
Snow Leopard OS 10.6 - A sure September release
Macbook Pro - According to many studies and apple trends, Apple’s next release should include a new and improved graphics card. This is, according to LaptopCheck, the only place the Macbook Pro falls short of its otherwise sterling standards. As for the expected release date, I hope it will also arrive in September. . . with the full realization that this would be highly idealistic.
Macbook Pro 15 in. - Is now available with a matte screen just like the 17 in. It will cost you $50 extra but is well worth the green considering the glare on the shiny model.

The Dev Team has, quite quickly, “recycled” redsn0w version .8 to jailbreak the new 3.0.1 OS update.
How to correctly update:
Let iTunes update or restore you to the official 3.0.1
Run RedSn0w
RedSn0w will ask you to identify the IPSW used.
MAKE SURE YOU SELECT THE 3.0 IPSW AND NOT THE 3.0.1.!!
After the JB reinstall ultrasnow .9 for the unlock.

So here is a link for free firmware updates. I would highly recommend you bookmark it for future reference. It is illegal, soooo… don’t use it. Just look at it or something.

Here are the steps for the 2G Jailbreak for the 3.0 software: Take them at your own risk.
1) Upgrade your firmware to 3.0 either the official way or via torrent. I would recommend restoring your iPod to its factory settings before you upgrade using the normal iTunes restore function.
2) Download the following link:
redsn0w 0.7
3) Extract the files from RedSn0w.zip and place them in a folder on your desktop (call it RedSn0w if you like).
4) Locate your IPSW file for 3.0. It should be located at:
C:\Users\*USERNAME8\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\iTunes\iPod Software Updates
5) Copy this file into the RedSn0w folder on your desktop
6) Put your iPod into DFU mode and connect to iTunes
- DFU mode: turn the iPod off. Then press and hold both the lock and home button for 10 seconds. Let go of the lock button while still holding the home button. Hold this button for another 10 seconds.
7) iTunes should tell you that your iPod is in DFU mode and that it needs to restore. Ignore this message.
 Drag the IPSW onto the RedSn0w.exe
9) That’s it, Good luck!!
Tipps:
If you have any problems just try everthing again, you might have just made a tiny mistake.
You also need iTunes 8.2 for this to work.

The Dev Team just released the newest version of UltraSn0w which promises the following great updates:
- Works on both 3G and 3GS
- Works on hacktivated devices
- Works regardless of how you jailbroke your device
- Doesn’t patch any mach-o binary whatsoever. (Doesn’t require a separate patch as each new firmware comes out).
- Doesn’t install any additional daemon
- Has no race conditions, no popups about “Missing SIM”, no network issues
- Is almost 7000 times smaller than its nearest competition
- Is available now via Cydia. Source repo is http://repo666.ultrasn0w.com (that last “0” in ultrasn0w is a zero!)

Rumors have emerged around the release of a new iPod Touch, the 3,1, coming soon. Apple recently ordered a large amount of cameras (just like the ones for the iPhone 3Gs). My guess is the new iPod Touch and possibly new iPod nano will be equipped with a nice cameras.
As for the release date, my best guess would be that Apple will release the new hardware along with Snow Leopard this coming September. For those of you purchasing MBs between now and September, the price of Snow Leopard will be decreased form $29.95 to $9.95.
No new news from the Dev Team yet, but I will keep you updated.
