Now I’m sorry that there are no updates on the 2G Jailbreak but the situations remains, as Dev-Team Blog says:
iPod Touch 2G (New iPod Touch)
Sorry, no support at this time, but Redsn0w is being actively researched and developed.
I did this a while back and thought it was about time to give it another run. Here is a list of my Apps for my 2G iPod Touch and the reason I have them. Here they are:
iEphemeris Lite – Now, this app most of you will find absolutely no use for. . . it shows you the different moon cycles. But for photographers like me its perfect.
Facebook – A must have for all those who have a facebook.
SnatchTest – A cool app that allows you to use your iPod Touch as a mouse pad for your PC or laptop.
MagicPad – An app similar to “Notes”. But it also has cut and paste options. Works nice for To Do lists.
Discover – This app allows you to transfer videos, music, and such to your iPod via wireless Internet. Used when you don’t feel like syncing.
Google – Links you to all the Google apps available for your iPod Touch.
Eureka - Kina cool, just like a wiki search app.
iTranslate – A translator app . . . what else.
STAT ICD-9 / Conversions / Cambio -all conversion apps that come handy every now and then.
Last.fm / Pandora – Music apps.
i.TV / Flixster – Movie information and tv channel information.
WiFinder – Hooks you up to any WiFi in the area that is not password protected.
Remote – Lets you control your iTunes through your iPod.
Night Stand - If you have a dock or charger this is a cool clock.
Fake-A-Call – An app that allows your iPod to act as an iPhone. . . but only for the wildly oblivious.
PocketDyno – an app that measures your horse power, acceleration, speed, etc. of you car while driving. Not super accurate but pretty interesting nonetheless.
Seadragon – probably the only cool thing Microsoft has released for the App store. Check it out.
IQTest – does just that.
Zippo Lighter – Nice for concerts.
tChess Pro – the only expensive item on my iPod Touch. A really sweet Chess App.
Sudoku 101 – this Sudoku app allows you to use Chinese characters.
TapDefense - Line wars! A sweet game!
Cube – A fun single player shoot ‘em up game. Takes time to get used to though.
LightBike – Fun multiplayer game.
BeerPong – actually not that bad.
These are some of the apps I have found interesting. What are yours?

Here are just some new news bits. We are all keeping both ears wide open for any Red Sn0w updates or anything similar but in the meantime:
- hotmail is now available in the mail app.
New Games category to come to the app store :
It is reported that Apple will release some more expensive PSP-quality games maybe around $20 or so. Here is a report I pickup on a site:
“PocketGamer.biz claims that Apple will be opening a premium $19.99 games section in the App Store. This new section, however, would be limited to a number of “large publishers”
Sounds pretty interesting to me. Personally, I don’t think the platform allows for games of the same caliber as that of the PSP’s, but Apple has surprised us enough to keep such criticisms at bay. I guess we will see.

P.S. How does everyone enjoy those new mafia based games?
For those of you who have a jailbreakable iPod Touch (not second generation) then these can still be downloaded in addition to those awesome apps from your Jailbreak. But this is for those poor saps that have an 2g iPod Touch and would just like some apps that I find useful. All apps but the game Enigmo were free when I downloaded them.
Music:
VLC Remote Free – a very useful app for those that have VLC player and would like a remote. Its a bit tricky to set up but well worth the effort.
Last.fm – just a good way to get some music if you have the Internet. Based off of the useful site.
Pandora Radio – works like Last.fm and just another source for some music that you may not own. The only problem with this and the above app is its inability to run in the background, so once you exit out so does the music.
Tools:
a2Z Unit Converter Pro – a handy unit converter that goes as far as currency and blood volume
AP Mobile News Network – A news App that gets you some great and mostly depressing news.
Emerald Time – not that useful, just interesting. Gives you the exact time derived from some complicated sources.
ePokerHelper Lite – a Texas hold’em app that helps you with decisions. Meant for those games were you have a whole bunch of fast players that don’t give you the time (for me, the very long time) that it takes you to do pot odds in you head. This version does not actually give you the pot odds equated with your bet, which makes it not as useful, but rather gives you a percentage based on your hand. Not really for advanced players.
Free Translator – Gives you the translation in the other language. So if you typed in “Hello” for Mandarin it would give you the actual Chinese character and not just the Arabic version , “Ni Hao”.
iTranslate – Picks up where Free Translator left off and gives you the Arabic lettering system.
Google Mobile App – Initially very cool because it houses all the Google Open Source apps. But not as impressive because it just links you to the website.
i. TV – one of the best ones out there. Tells you theatre listings, tv channels, and allows you to watch some trailers
Flixster – I use this with i.TV. It shows you what movies are in Theatres, the Box Office, Upcoming, coming out on DVD. Has nicer visuals than i.TV.
MagicPad – The best To Do pad that I have found. I have tried a number of others and they just seem to compicated and busy. I like this one for its copy and paste ability and simplicity.
Wikipanion – a nice Wikipedia app that gives you a nicer and easier to use user interface than safari.
Discover – One of the coolest apps ever. Lets you transfer stuff onto your ipod via the web. A must have.
Email2SMS – A texting service that seems cool enough but the texts arrive way after they were sent. I’m keeping it hoping for an upgrade.
Shazam – An app that uses the nonexistent microphone on your iPod Touch to identify music playing in the background at a party or something. Really cool app, but as of now vestigial. I’m hoping on getting a sleek microphone to use with this and the next app.
fring – a VoIP app that hooks up to a number of VoIP services for free.
Night Stand – a fancy digital clock when your iPod is on your dock.
RemotePad – allows the user to use the iPod Touch as a mouse for your mac or PC. A bit tricky to setup but well worth it.
TWC – The Weather Channel – a bit more detailed than the one that comes with the iPod.
WiFinder – A app that finds surrounding WiFi that your iPod doesn’t and sees if it is password protected or not. Haven’t used it too much but I think it will come in handy sometime.
KTdict C-E – A Chinese dictionary. The best one I have found. Gives you the character, Pinyin, and translation.
WorldWiki – An app that gives you some useful facts about each country in the world.
Eureka – A Look up engine for words and their meanings.
Trivopaedia – A very cool app that houses tons of facts about anything. From “Apollo missions” to “Best and worst films ever” to “Flower meanings” to “Morse Code” and “Brightest stars”.
Backgrounds – You probably already have this one, its just a useful Background downloader that uses the Internet to house hundreds of them.
Visual stuff:
Dice – a cool but not very useful app that has good visuals of well . . . dice.
Zippo Lighter - a cool concert app.
Cradle – employs both touch and the accelerometer to move newton’s cradle. Fun to play around with.
Games 1:
iChess – I’m not very good at chess and the computer seems to be quit intelligent. It allows you to play against an opponent or computer which is nice.
“Worder” and “Word Wrap” – two apps that are a play off of the online game “Text Twist”.
Sudoku 101 – a nice free app that allows you to play in Chinese Characters and Roman numbers. This free app only allows you to play up to difficulty level “moderate”. This doesn’t seem high but was still challenging.
Sudoku - a visually appealing free Sudoku app that has higher difficulty levels than the above.
Tetsuki – a game I’d like to learn, looks fun.
Games 2:
Enigmo – a cool puzzle app that has very good visuals and doesn’t get old.
TapDefense – a cool line wars app. Very addicting.
Topple – fun and free for now, so get it fast. Was actually kind of difficult.
Lux Touch – a simplified game of Risk. Very fun.
The above are merely apps that I have found useful or fun, you may not. But if you have any other, maybe less known apps that you would like to share with the community just comment on them.

The cut and paste option has been near the top of the iPhone Flaws list. People have been complaining about its omission in the 3G and previous releases. 3rd party applications like OpenClip have tried filling the gap but have been largely unsuccessful… seeing as the newest update has made OpenClip unusable.
Well hopefully this is about to change. PasteBud, a web-based service will soon hit the market. Although the website is not up yet, the developers have promised it will bypass the App Store altogether. It will function through bookmarks and allow users to browse between pages and highlight text, hit a copy button, access another page, and paste the text.
The release date is approaching and we now know this important service will be available soon.
This would be amazing. iTunes and the Digital Rights Management are currently discussing a very hot topic: whether to freely distribute certain MP3s. The rumor this past week has concerned the verdict of these discussions and when both parties would meet a consensus. Supposedly this date was December 9Th. However, these rummors were just that and turned out only partially correct.
There is good news though. Apple is in negotiation with the three record labels (Sony, Universal, and Warner), and is in fact trying to get the music to be sold DRM-free. These negotiations are not going smoothly. But don’t lose hope, it is quite likely that we will have some sort of breakthrough, whether that be DRM-free music or not, in early 2009.

2.2
As previously announced, Apple has released the new iPod Touch and iPhone Update 2.2. And there’s a lot to like about what they have done. They’ve tweaked and added some great new features.
- Podacast downloading over WiFi AND Phone Internet service. However, we’re not happy that you can’t subscribe or download huge podcasts; there is a cap on the size ( a 10MB cap).
- Apple has also tweaked the visual voicemail and removed some bugs from the overall fluidity of the GUI.
- After Google introduced “Street View” on the G1, Apple really wanted that same technology and have now added it to Google Maps. Yet, unfortunately, this only works on the iPhone 1 and 2G and not on the iPod Touch.
- Apple has done some great work on the App Store. New sorting options of “Top Paid,” “Top Free,” and “Release Date” are available when browsing categories like “Games” or “Productivity” which allows for more pleasant control over what you see. A large icon taken from a popular application is now also displayed next to each category name to help identify it. Plus, when viewing a specific application’s details, all screenshots for the application are now accessible on the devices through a nice slide show.
- Another big thing they have added is rating. When you delete icons they will now ask you if you want to rate the App. before deleting it. Of course, you can always respectfully decline.
- You can now also turn of the “auto-correction” while typing.
- They have added new feature where pressing the Home button when viewing any Home screen application page will bring you to the first page.
- The new 2.2 OS has also solved the problems with Mail’s fetching schedules, and it has also improved formatting of wide HTML e-mail.
- Now this may be the placebo effect but everything seems much faster. Apps start faster, the system is more responsive, google maps pinpoints your location faster, and even safari seems smoother.
Of course, the iPod is still missing some things that would be very helpful. ”Cut and Paste” is said to be on its way. But the single most awaited feature, the “Push alerts feature”, which would allow more apps to run in the background, which was supposed to arrive on the 2.1 update, has still not shown its face.
Overal, this update is a nice improvement in amaturing OS.

The Dev team has just released great news: QuickPwn & PwnageTool released for Firmware 2.2!!
They suggest that if you are still waiting for the 3G iPhone soft unlock the you should not us QuickPwn or use the official ipsw or the iTunes update process without using PwnageTool.
And depending on what you have:
SIM Free/SP Unlocked/Factory Unlocked iPhone 3G
Since your phone is already unlocked you need only to update to 2.2 using iTunes and use QuickPwn to Jailbreak. This, of course, will also add Cydia and Installer.
Locked iPhone 3G – Preserve Baseband
For people who have a locked 3G and want to update to 2.2 and at the same time preserve the current baseband software. To keep the baseband you have to create a custom .ipsw with PwnageTool. The only problem for this, of you course, is that PwnageTool is only available on Mac OS X.
Locked iPhone 3G
If you are using your iPhone with one carrier and have no interest in the possibility of an iPhone 3G unlock in the near future then just restore or upgrade to 2.2 using iTunes and use QuickPwn to Jailbreak and add Cydia and Installer.
iPhone 2G (1st Generation)
Update or Restore your iPhone 2G with iTunes then run QuickPwn.
iPod Touch 1G (Original iPod Touch)
Update to 2.2 with iTunes and run QuickPwn.
iPod Touch 2G (New iPod Touch)
Sorry but still no good news here.
And here are the torrents:
PwnageTool 2.2.1 for Mac OSX is here
QuickPwn 2.2 for Mac OSX is here
QuickPwn 2.2 for Windows is here

For those of you who don’t know, Snow Leopard is the next version of OS X for Apple. This morning this new version (10A190 (Mac OX 10.6) was seeded to the developers. Shipping is expected to start in about one year.
Snow Leopard will focus on quality and performance instead of new feature ; Apple has made it clear that there will be efforts to improve support for multi-core processors and GPU processing. Apple says it will support:
- Support for connecting to Microsoft Exchange 2007, servers will be included in Adress Book, Mail, and iCal
- Faster installation times and smaller hard drive footprint.
- Support for up to a theoretical 16TB RAM by further developing 64-bit kernel technologies.
- Grand Central: a parallel-programming technology by Apple that aims to have the OS take full advantage of multi-core CPUs and Graphics Processing Units.
- QuickTime X which will feature optimized support for modern codecs.
- Open Computing Language (OCL): allowing developers to code applications to use the GPU for non-graphics purposes.
- And a 64-bit kernel which provides a complete 64-bit environment for applications, along with 32-bit support for older Macs.

T-Mobile just released G1

Featured Google Products integrated on the G1:
- Google Search (Obviously), but its “OneTouch” which puts the Google Search just one Touch away from your home page.
- Maps which supports StreetView
- Youtube
- Gmail
- Calender
- Talk
- Contacts
- One Great thing about all of these apps is the seamless movement between them. They are all very well integrated. Kudos to Google for that.
How does it compare to the iPhone:
Although the iPhone is currently a much better phone in regards to Apps, Appearance, Speed… and pretty much everything else, it is not as open to adjustment as the G1. Apple allows people to submit Apps but allows for no real open-sourcing. The G1, on the other has the potential to flourish over time. The Visuals are currently OK. The Zooming is awkward and slow. Color not as vibrant. Speed just does not match up… yet… give it time and it will become the iPhones greatest competitor!
With its Flip-out Keyboard it may have a easier learning curve but all that constant flipping may get annoying. It also houses some extra buttons and has a smaller screen than the iPhone. Yet its the cheap and the to-be popular alternative.
PRICE:
- $179
- Two-year contract with T-Mobile.
T-Mobile:
- The Android Market (T-mobile download Store) is offering free downloads to G1 owners 90 days after the purchase.
- Existing T-Mobile users can place their orders online Today.
- T-Mobile to offer two data plans
- $25 with unlimited data with some messaging allowance or
- $35 with unlimited data and messaging.
- -These are really really cheap compared to iPhone. Another Pro.
- Sim Card
- Reads Word, pdf, excel file types (but not Exchange)
- Available on 3G networks, but T-Mobile has very few of these where as iPhone has a ton. But give it awhile and T-Mobile will most likely catch up.
- Also available outside 3G
- NO SKYPE SUPPORT
- Will not feature desktop sync! Will sync online with Gmail, Yahoo!, Microsoft and AOL mail!
Sweet Stuff:
- ShopSavvy is awesome! Just line up a camera with just about any bar code, wait one second, and you will be able to check that items price just about anywhere:
- online stores
- stores in the area
- even make wish list and send them to your friends
Google’s phone will also introduce some cool other apps like:
- EcoRio - your own personal Global Warming Records Monitor
- BreadCrumbz – Make your own map off the beaten path
- the Amazon Mp3 Store! – down them directly
- Locale – Customize your GPS like never before
The G1 will launch across the UK in early November with Germany, Austria, Czech Republic and the Netherlands expecting a launch date in Q1 of 2009.
Some of you might be experiencing some problems with (jailbroken) App crashes. This is due to a changing of repositories and websites by BigBoss and Sleepers. Those of you familiar with them know that these are big names in the repo/Cydia world. There was some sort of falling out with the site people, causing BigBoss to move to his own site. This is ok for us, though, because the repos will be back to perfection in no time.
BigBoss has updated his site and his repos now, so there should be no problem there. He says:
I finally got the repository web apps working again. Remember that with these apps you can view everything in my Cydia repository without actually having Cydia open. You can see what’s new using the New Apps link, and you can see entire listing with the Hosting / Repository link (almost at 500 packages yay)…….I generally update the repository every day so check back often.
So far, Sleepers’ (lead writer Shaggy now) site is changing right now, s because of the extensive remodeling of the site (which looks pretty good, If i do say so myself). He says:
We are in the process of changing many things on the site. Some of these things include this new custom developed theme.
We understand that some people will not like the changes that are being made, this we apologize for.
We will still be focusing on supporting applications for the iPhone, while adding a few very exciting features to help the developers …
These updates shouldn’t affect the repos for long, as I have App problems fixed as of now. Good luck to both sites/repos, and continue the good work.
