Thoughts…

Author : rAwks

We’ve all heard about the new 3G iPhone coming out July 11 ONLY costing a whooping $199 are you out of your mind. Lots of people are stoked that the price dropped pretty low…even cheaper than an iPod Touch. People don’t realize the catch the iPhone has brought amongst the eager people that wait in line to get the 3G iPhone the first day it releases. Well, the iPhone is MUCH cheaper than the original one, but the plan for the phone went up. So…in the long run you’re actually paying about $40-$50 more than you would original pay with the old iPhone and the old rate plan. People probably wouldn’t mind coughing up that $40-$50 because you do get a faster phone. Since the iPhone dropped lower than the iPod Touch, do you think the iPod Touch price will go down also?!? I would imagine that the iPhone should be more expensive than the iPod Touch. What are your thoughts about this? Also, if you do have an older iPod Touch and you do actually update to get the App Store…why do iPod Touch owners have to pay $10 for the App Store?!? When you pay $10 for the App Store, you still have to pay for the apps you want…so…why don’t they just give the App Store for FREE?!? Just a few thoughts about that.

A couple of apps now are charging to have their programs on your device. I had the game Pool on my iPod touch and there was an update in Installer. I thought the update would fix any bugs or add new options or something. In reality, the update just changed one option…the option that you have to purchase a license to play the game. There is a trial button, but I was a bit disappointed that apps now are charging to use their programs. I can’t really complain or anything because these developers DO put A LOT of time into their work. I was just wondering that if I’m paying to have these games or apps through a jailbreak, shouldn’t we just get the App Store and pay for it and have these apps legally?!? Don’t get me wrong, I’m not telling developers to stop charging because they do deserve a little reward for all they do, but I would rather donate a little something instead.

Just wanted to see people’s opinions on these few things that I wrote about. Also a reminder, Lone Stag stated DO NOT UPDATE ANYTHING..FIRMWARE…ITUNES…NOTHING!!! You can do all that if you want to lose your jailbreak, but for now…keep it old school. Someone will EVENTUALLY jailbreak the firmware…someone always does! Hope all goes well!

PAY ATTENTION

Author : The Lone Stag

With the announcement of the iPhone 3G comes news of updates with Apple. DO NOT UPDATE ANYTHING! DO NOT update to new versions of iTunes, DO NOT install new firmware versions and DO NOT buy the new iPhone when it comes out.

‘But why shouldn’t I?’

Believe it or not, Apple is kinda smart. They are bound to make things harder on hackers who are creating jailbreaks (Zibri and cmw). You need to let them figure things out before you go ahead and update, then complain that your iPod won’t jailbreak.

Read upcoming blogs to get the information you need about these updates.

The iPhone 3G is set to be announced during the 2008 WWDC (Apple Worldwide Developers Conference) which will begin on Monday (June 9th) with a keynote speech by Steve Jobs. Another Method for iPod Touch Jailbreak and Apps

Author : aznboi101

Well I am back from a break and if you want a great place to find and install 3rd party apps here are instructions that I have created and currently used to jailbreak and install apps:

Here is the source:blazeco.info/blaze.xml

1 Open the installer app

2 At the bottom click sources

3 Look at the top and then click edit in the right hand corner

4 Click add

5 You can now add whatever source then let it refresh sources

6 Go into recent packages and you should have a bunch of new apps

How I Jailbroke my iPod Touch using this method:

Use: (blazeco.info/blaze.xml).

When you install that source go into blaze softwares it has something called SvPatch which changes your version tag. What that means is if for example you have 1.1.4 jailbroken but you want to install summerboard (themes) but it only works for 1.1.3 jailbroken. So by installing the 1.1.3 Svpatch in Itune it would say 1.1.4 but when the Svpatch is installed it changes it to 1.1.3. They have other software versions: 1.1.1,1.1.2,1.1.3,1.1.4…so try it out.

Apple iPod Touch and iPhone SDK Annoucnment

Author : kdollar

Today, Apple officially announced the long awaited iPod SDK kit. The SDK kit will not be officially released until June along with a iPod Touch and iPhone 2.0 software update. The update will allow the devices to load 3rd party applications and it will also include parental controls, mail funcionality and power point viewing. Apple will be releasing a beta version of the SDK and 2.0 software to select developers so there is a good chance we will see the software update sooner then June. We will keep you up to date if the 2.0 update does surface online.

Apple also introduced how developers can sell their applicationss with the new store in iTunes called: App store. The App store will be the only way to get official 3rd party apps (jailbreakers will have other options) and developers will get 70% on a sale while Apple will receive the rest. Though, Apple has stated that developers will be able to release applications for free.

Engadget has been reporting on the event with details about the update, sdk kit and even with a comparative post on how the SDK stacks up compared to other SDK’s.  iPod SDK Development Chart.

iPod Touch and iPhone SDK Information

Author : kdollar

iLounge has reported that people familiar with the upcoming iPod Touch and iPhone SDK have said there will be restrictions on where you buy things made with the SDK (iTunes), what applications will be bought and sold and also that there will be no connectivity with accessories.

This shouldn’t be all that surprising because this is apple we are taking about. They won’t let the music industry have their way so it was unlikely to give 3rd party developers a free ride. The SDK will be coming out in beta (incomplete version) on March 6th. The event will have selected media (where’s my invite apple?), analysts, and developers. The final version of the SDK is rumored to come out in June during the Worldwide Developers Conference event in San Francisco.

It looks like developers who don’t want to go through Apple and iTunes will still have a large market to sell (or give) their products to because of all the jailbroken iPod Touch and iPhones….I am thinking about setting up a little marketplace on this site for developers to sell (or give)  their applications, what do you think?

Also let me know in the comments if you are interested in getting this idea off the ground. (Developers, Ideas)…

iPod Touch 1.14

Author : kdollar

Apple has released new software for the iPod Touch and iPhone bringing them both to 1.14. There has been no indication what the update fixed or added. There were some initial guesses that this may be the update that enabled the iPod Touch for SDK’s that are soon to be released. But so far there has been no indication that this is the case.

I have not updated my iPod Touch to 1.14 because I have my iPod Touch is currently jailbroken. I haven’t heard either way if the update breaks the jailbreak but I am assuming it does.

Use your iPod Touch at Starbucks

Author : kdollar

Engadget has reported that starbucks may be working on a new app for the iPod Touch called quickorder. Where you could order your drink from your iPod Touch without having to wait in line. They mentioned that it is a proof of concept at this point but with the relationship between apple and starbucks it wouldn’t surprise me if you see this in action soon.

SNES Emulator Released

Author : kdollar

Guest Post by Lonman06

It’s been an exciting week due to the fact that the SNES emulator for the iPod Touch has been released.  I must say that I was probably one of the first people to download the full public release, not the beta version.

While this is the first version of the public release, it is not without problems.  I think this is expected at this point.  It took quite some time for the NES emulator to run as smoothly as it does now and there are still even minor problems with it.

I have been playing around with it for a few days now and have tested a good amount of SNES ROMs.  Some of these roms work great, while others are barely playable.  I would expect to see this improved with every new update.

To get the SNES emulator add this source to your installer: http://zodttd.com/repo/

Below is a list of many games and the quality of the emulator playback of them:

Donkey Kong Country 2
Status: Working
Problems: None.

EarthBound

Status: Working
Problems: None.

iPod Touch 32 gb

Author : kdollar

Apple has just released a new iPod Touch with 32gb of storage! It doesn’t look like anything has been changed but the storage capacity. If you look on Apple’s site they are currently advertising it along with the 8 gb and the 16 gb. It looks like for the time being there will be three iPod Touch models to choose from. In other apple product news they also released a 16 gb iPhone model. The iPod Touch 32gb and iPhone 16gb will both sell for $499.
