My Fav 5

Author : rAwks

What are the best applications out there for the iPod? What applications do you use? These are questions we are asked by new hackers to get a feel of which applications THEY should install. To be honest, there isn’t an application that is THE BEST, but there are applications that are really great to use. It also depends on your personality because I might like playing puzzle games (which I do), but someone else might not. I have 6 pages on my home screen, but it would be TOO much to write about each one. That’s why I am going to write about my favorite 5 applications and my favorite 5 games. I will write about the 5 in no particular order and I’m not including applications that come with the iPod (Maps, Music, Photo, etc.). This will hopefully help you get a little familiar with who I am and it might also influence you in installing these onto your iPod.

My favorite 5 applications are Light, Touchpad, Flip A Coin, Sketches, and Customize. Lots of people think the light app is pretty dumb, but I seriously use it EVERYDAY. When it’s dark around the house, I turn on the light app and it guides the way. Touchpad is one of my favorite apps because it allows you to control your computer from your iPod. I use this on a daily basis for work. This app works with both PC and MAC computers. Flip A Coin is perfect for those that are indecisive, like ME. I can never choose where to eat and it’s always between two choices, so I use the Flip A Coin to make the choice for me. Sketches is an app where you can draw and scribble, like an Etch A Sketch. I use Sketches on a daily basis to draw or write little notes to my fiancé because you can send your artwork or note through email. Customize lets you customize your iPod and change things like your slider image, battery images, etc. I am currently using a modded Customize because I am not fond of the new Customize.

My favorite 5 games are iZoo, MixUp, Millionaire, Text Twist, and iQuickBlock. If you like the game Bejewled you will love iZoo. It’s pretty much the same game, just different name. You can even install different themes for this, so you can get the Bejewled look or you can even get another theme to make the icons into Simpson’s characters. MixUp is a game where you have scrambled letters and you have to arrange it to create a word. It keeps on going, but after a while the words get repetitive. If you like the show “Who Wants To Be A Millionaire,” you will most definitely want to install Millionaire app. The only downfall for this app is that you can’t use the phone a friend lifeline because it ACTUALLY wants you to call someone on your contact list (This will work if you have the microphone to make calls with your iPod). Text twist is a game where you form words from a set of six scrambled letters and you must find at least one 6-letter word using all the letters to get to the next round.

As I said in the beginning, I have LOTS of applications and games on my device, but these are my favorites. The only way to know which applications or games are best for you…is to try them out yourself. Hope all goes well!

I tried to install Customize (NEW and OLD) tonight on my new iPod Touch firmware 1.1.4, and the installer told me I need Firmware 1.1.[123]

Where can I get a functioning version of Customize for firmware 1.1.4?

  2. Prelenque, April 29, 2008:

ZO- Spicy Chicken is working on a 2.0 customize for 1.1.4 :) you can also get a computability patch that will allow 1.1.3 stuff to be installed- I got that and then when I load Customize it just crashes and goes back to homescreen I hear many have this same problem- so I’ll just wait for the final release of 2.0 which should have all the bugs fixed- till then just use Summerboard :)

  3. Prelenque, April 29, 2008:

And to rAwks- nice post- I got a different ‘bejewled’ but it’s not too good- I’ll try iZoo- and what do you think of Vnsea verse Touchpad for controlling computers? I’ve never heard of Touchpad but I was thinking of trying the Vnsea thing (I think that’s it’s name)…

    Anyway good post :)

  4. ZO, April 29, 2008:

found a fix on youtube and I’ve got it working….:P)

    To ALL…

If you want to get customize (NOT the 2.0 version), you would find a source for the 1.1.4 compatibility patch and a source for a MODDED customize. Install the patch and then install the modded customize. You can find these sources through iappcat.com. Hope all goes well!

    To Prelenque…

I think I know what you’re talking about with that other bejewled game…I prefer iZoo. I actually haven’t used VNSea before, so I can’t compare which ones better. TouchpadPro is great! I don’t have any complaints about it. Hope all goes well!

    To ALL…

I read on ispazio that the Millionaire game had to be removed. So…if you are looking for it…it might be too late. Sorry!

    My 4 favorites are,
    Books:
There are more then 400 books that you can download from ipodcat and application is really lightweight and satisfactory
    weDict:
You can download various dictionaries and use them on WeDict, it is fabulous for nonnative English speakers and good for even native speakers. There are data files for various languages and purpose dictionaries as well.
    Chess:
Tough game. When I start playing, I can not give up without finishing it.
    iphpPod:
You can directly copy and play videos, music files (without using itunes). It gives you the control of your ipod touch.

I am still investigating other tools. I will post them in time.

  15. Dwaynee, May 25, 2008:

How do you get the pokemon ruby application on your iPod touch ?

  16. daniel-in-provence, May 30, 2008:

The best way to read pdfs on the iphone/touch is to upload them to a folder (like /var/mobile/Media/PDF) using SHS (with FileZilla for example)
Then to read them I use WildEyes to navigate to that folder - you can then just click on the file you want to read and it will open in Safari.
The big advantage compared to PDFViewer is that Safari allows you to read the file on a horizontal screen.
If you like you can then put a link to the file either as a bookmark or directly on your home screen.
And of course as the pdf files are on your iPhone/touch you can read them when you are offline!

  29. rAwks, June 19, 2008:

    To valos…

Sorry for the late response. Add these 2 sources because I’m pretty sure one of them has them in it.

    repo.ispazio.net
    ipodtouched.net/repo.xml

    Hope all goes well!

  30. rAwks, June 19, 2008:

    To Simon…

It shouldn’t take that long to download Touchpad. Just turn it on and off and see if that works. Hope all goes well!

  31. rAwks, June 19, 2008:

    To Joe…

How does your Installer crash? Does it crash right when you open it?!? Well, if that happens, you have to do a hard reset and restore to factory settings. Then you just have to jailbreak again. Hope all goes well!

  32. Marc, June 29, 2008:
