iTunes DRM FREE!!

Author : rooster

Well, it has finally happened. No, not the ipod Touch 2G jailbreak but something pretty cool nonetheless. This is a huge step for iTunes because they are finally opening up a bit.  So there will be some price changes all around: 69 cents, 99 cents, and $1.29. Another great thing is that the iPhone will allow 3G downloads.

The change will be put into affect on April first while the 3G downloads are already hot. One big problem for me is the encoding rate of the songs they will be receiving.  Although the old iTunes was the same this new one will still only have the songs encrypted at 256kbps (which is great for most users).  For those fellow FLAC users: sorry.

Here is what Steve Jobs had to say on the matter:

“We are thrilled to be able to offer our iTunes customers DRM-free iTunes Plus songs in high quality audio and our iPhone 3G customers the ability to download music from iTunes anytime, anywhere over their 3G network at the same price as downloading to your computer or via Wi-Fi. And in April, based on what the music labels charge Apple, songs on iTunes will be available at one of three price points — 69 cents, 99 cents and $1.29 — with many more songs priced at 69 cents than $1.29.”

sounds good.

Sounds good. However,I’m wondering how many songs will be priced $1.29 and the amount of music priced $0.69.

Also,I do hope Apple gives more options on upgrading my original purchases. I have 800 pieces of music in my itunes library, and I’m counting the money that will cost if I update all of them!
    $0.3*800=$240…

luckily, is much economical. So,I still use software to help me.

I’ll just wait for Apple to carry out more actions.

That is one policy I have always had a problem with.
I buy an album when the only option was a DRM version for $9.99, then when the DRM free version comes out you can buy it for the same $9.99.
But for those that bought the DRM version and want to “upgrade” to the DRM free version, Apple now charges me an additional 30¢ per song more, about another $3.00.
Way to reward those that have supported you for a long time…
