iPod Touch 4 en route. . . nice 3Gs camera to go with it.

Author : rooster

Well, Mac Rumors confirms, the iPod Touch with camera is coming very soon. For the past two years, Apple has updated its iPod Touch product line during the month of September. Since they have only been making them for 3 years, I think this next one will follow suite and pop up in two months.

The current, realistic I might add, speculation concerns the iPod Touch 3 having a 3.2 MP camera (just like the iPhone 3gs). Now you may ask, “well why not an iPhone 4 like camera?” The issue here in-lies in the size of the iPod Touch Model. If Apple keeps their current size and style, which in my opinion is getting a bit old, then there is almost no chance that the new iPod touch will contain any camera over 3.2 MP.

Now, we cannot abandon the reasoning that technology has advanced considerably in the past year or so; and maybe Apple has found a way to fit a smaller camera in the same old housing.

Personally, I hope for a brand new, remastered device.

Additionally, Digitimes reports that the new device will be capable of supporting video and photo as well as sport the new A4 processor currently found within the iPhone 4.

5.6-Inch and 7-Inch OLED iPad Models Coming later this year?

Author : rooster

I know, it just sounds too good to be true, or. . .to weird to be true. Why would Apple make a smaller iPad and further delineate the delicate lines between their already similar iPod and iPhone?

The sources noted that Apple has recently placed new iPad orders to Taiwan-based component makers for the fourth quarter of 2010 and the first quarter of 2011 with 9.7-inch, 5.6-inch and 7-inch models all included.

The 9.7-inch model will see some minor changes, while Apple will add Chimei Innolux (CMI) as one of its panel suppliers.

The new 5.6- and 7-inch iPads will mainly target the e-book reader market, separating them from the 9.7-inch model, which mainly targets multimedia entertainment, the sources stated.

I’m doubtful and hopeful at the same time, time will tell.

How to install flash on your iPad

Author : rooster

So, they’ve found out a way to port the much needed flash 1o.01 component onto a jailbroken iPad!

Prepare: Be very careful, SSHing into your device is risky business.

Step 1. Jailbreak your iPad

Step 2. Install Frash.deb

Step 3. Get those downloaded files onto your iPad

  1. Mac users – install Netatalk. Once installed, it will auto pop up your iPad in the Finder’s Sharing list
  2. Windows users – follow the normal SSH tutorial here or click the link at the top of this site.

Step 4. Login: “root” / Password: “alpine”

Step 5.  Once you have acquired access to the iPad’s filesystem, navigate to /var/root/Media

Step 6. Open Media and create a new folder. Name it “Cydia”.

Step 7. Open this newly created “Cydia” folder and create another folder called ”AutoInstall”.

Step 8. Place Frash into this new folder

Step 9. Restart you iPad twice.

Step 10. Once you have a flash-heavy site running you will notice a big “Flash” circle appear where the actual flash normally does. Merely tap that circle. This will run the flash

Step 11. Go find some iPad-ignorant friends and show them that your iPad does, in-fact, play flash.

Currently supports games and animations but is still lacking video playback. Surprisingly, it is very stable and even very touch sensitive for a port this early on.

Much impressed,

SSH Basics

Author : rooster

In order to customize and edit the theme of your device, one needs to be able to SSH into the device.

1. You need an FTP client.

* CyberDuck for Mac (You can also use Fugu or iPhone Explorer)

  • SmartFTP for Windows

2. Install OpenSSH and SBSettings to your iPhone.

  • SBSettings will help you toggle SSH on/off

Tip: change your devices root and user passwords periodically

3. Now follow the appropriate instructions below:

  • iPhone Explorer users – plug in your phone and launch iPhone Explorer and it should automatically populate your iPhone file system, then skip to step 5
  • Most other FTP clients:
  • -Get on a WiFi network

-Record your iPhone’s IP address (Setting-> Wi-Fi ->blue arrow next to the network you are connected to)

    -Launch your FTP client

Tip: SSH is a huge battery hog, so keep it off unless actively using it

4. Enter your iPhone’s IP address and set port to 22. Your username is root and the default password is ‘alpine’ (without the quotes). Click connect or continue. You should now have a list of all your iPhone’s files.

Tip: Keep your device plugged in during this process to ensure that your battery doesn’t die

Your browser may not support display of this image.

5. Now merely click Library —> Themes to find all the themes you have downloaded.

Tip: Go to Settings -> Autolock -> Never. Sometimes your SSH client will show an error screen when the device sleeps; this ensures that will never happen.

Verizon iPhone . . . again

Author : rooster

According to Bloomberg BusinessWeek, Verizon is to sell the iPhone starting this coming January. I know what you’re thinking: what is the reliability of this rumor?

Well, I can’t promise anything but this rumor seems to have some very reliable signs.

Bloomberg states,”

The device will be available to customers in January, according to the people, who declined to be named because the information isn’t public. Natalie Kerris, an Apple spokeswoman, and Jeffrey Nelson, a Verizon Wireless spokesman, declined to comment.

Estimates place the number of verizon iphone buyers at 3 million (out of 92.8 million) at the end of the first quarter.

Another source accurately states, ” It’s had to ignore the quality issues that AT&T has faced”

Another big news tidbit is that Verizon Wireless plans on building a high-speed fourth- generation network unto which it  plans to unveil several devices that will run on the new technology in January at the Consumer Electronics Show.

Good show.
