Zune HD Looking Good!

Author : rooster

Microsoft just announced their imminent release of their new Zune HD.  And it look pretty good for a microsoft release I must say.  Their last attempt at a worthy mp3 player was back in 2005 and yielded mixed results.  Their newest Zune harbors HD viewing, a wider screen, more capacity, and a Solid State Media Player.

Punching in a a 272×480 screen resolution its just short of the iPhone’s 320×480.   It does have something the iPhone doesn’t however, OLED pixels.

I guess we’ll see how it does pretty soon.

WWDC Updates

Author : rooster

So I stumbled across a really interesting website today:Daringfireball.com. Apparently it belongs to John Gruber, a highly informed Apple follower. He hypothesizes the following about the upcoming apple developers conference:

  • 32GB and 16GB instead of the 8gb and 16gb capacities
  • $199 and $299 price-points to be maintained
  • 3.2 Megapixel camera
  • Video recording & editing capabilities
  • Ability to send a picture & video via MMS
  • Discontinuation of the metal band surrounding the edge of the device
  • OLED screen
  • 1.5X The battery life
  • Double the RAM and processing power
  • Built-in FM transmitter
  • Apple logo on the back to light up
  • Rubber-tread backing
  • Built-in compass
  • Revolutionary combination of the camera, GPS, compass, and Google maps to identify photo and inform about photo locations.
  • Turn by turn directions
  • July 17th, 2009 release date
  • It is unlikely that the iTablet and iPhone mini will make their entrance

Cheaper iPhone Plans?!?

Author : rooster

iphone-money

We all know that the iPhone’s underlying major problem is the price of the AT&T Plan.

Apple and AT&T have noticed this and have decided to reduce some of the costs of owning an iPhone.  iPhone 3.0 will be released in June and a new, maybe cheaper device might arrive around the same time.

Some even think that a prepaid iPhone may be released in the near future. I think this is a bit much and would detract from the overall splendor of the device itself.  I can, however, believe that along with service reductions, the iPhone itself may become cheaper as well.

Whatever they have in stock for us, I believe a cheaper iPhone will most definitely boost the market and provide more, maybe low-income individuals the ability to own this awesome phone.

Kryptes

Author : The Lone Stag

Also available at StagHacks.com

Cydia, a popular installer has been the best way to jailbreak your iPod Touch. There is a new package handler that has recently been released Kryptes.

Kryptes has created a new option for jailbreakers that want to download third party software. The team behind it was at sleepers.net

According to their site, their source would not be accepted as a default repo for Cydia and Installer. They therefore decided to branch off and create a new way to download. To download Kryptes, open Cydia and add the source (without parentheses) “http://www.kryptes.net/kryptes”.

This hack is not ready for the primetime but if you are thinking about trying something else for your iPod Touch then give this a try.

WOW on iPhone

Author : kdollar

There is a clip that has been circulating of an iPhone running World of Warcraft (WOW). The clip which is below shows the user using Vollee which is used to stream the game over the AT&T 3G network on the iPhone. All of the rendering for the game is done via the PC, so it is up to the 3G network to handle the load which is seems to be doing a good job of.

The game has been completed but due to legal reasons it hasn’t been released. It will be interesting to see if the game ever does make an appearance in the App Store….it would need to get through Blizzard and Apple and that’s a battle in itself. But who knows, it may in some form become available to jailbreakers but at this point that’s just a guess.
