iTunes Update

Author : rooster

Apple just released its new update for iTunes: 2.2.1 (5H11a).

Do not update!!!  The Dev Team would recommend that anybody looking for a working JB should not update.

My opinion states: Don’t update unless it needs it.

The current iTunes and lots of previous versions are stable and don’t really need an update.  The only thing I would recommend, if you have not updated to a version with Genius support already, that you do so. If you have a fair amount of songs and dislike the pains of going through manually to make playlists, Genius is great.

Jailbird – The Alternative to WinPwn

Author : The Lone Stag

For those of you who remember using WinPwn to jailbreak your iPod/iPhones, you remember how easy and beneficial it wasw to use. For those of you who don’t, it was good. You could personalize your device, from boot logos to packages already installed in Cydia every time you restore your device. What you would do is create your own personalized firmware, based off of an existing firmware, and installl it through a ‘pwnd’ iTunes.

Unfortunately, WinPwn hasn’t been updated in a long time. People today rely on QuickPwn to jailbreak their devices. There is no way to customize your device to the core. It is now a time for change, thanks to Jailbird.

Jailbird (http://getjailbird.com/) is the new alternative to WinPwn. While it is still in the beta stages and not yet released, it shows much promise. THe program itself will be able to jailbreak any iPod Touch 1G, iPhone 2G, or iPhone 3G. Also, when asked about jailbreaking the iPod Touch 2G, they said, “If the ability is there to do it, it will be built into Jailbird.” We will just have to wiat for the release of “redsnow” to see.

On a side note, I am working on a new project. It is not specifically associated with iPodTouchHacks, but will involve such topics found here. It is almost finished, and I will be releasing it soon, but I thought I would just tease you all with that knowledge.

Red Sn0w and the 2G JB

Author : rooster

So, as rAwks already announced, the Dev team has done it, they have jailbroken the iPod Touch 2G!!

But, it’s not quit ready for the public yet.  They have found away around Apple’s signature checks (by using their patch Red Sn0w) and can jb it. The only issue is that they must do this before every boot. This problem seems quit minor in the grand scheme of things and will most likely be fixed soon.  I would think that they would just need to down a program that can boot the patch automatically.

If you want to know more about the subject here is a video by the Dev Team: http://qik.com/video/876511#

redsn0w

Author : rAwks

Many people have been emailing me about jailbreaking the 2nd generation iPod touch. Unfortunately, there’s no jailbreak out there YET! The dev team released the unlock for the iPhone 3G in the beginning of the year, which means that they were totally concentrating on that device. Now that it’s been unlocked, they are currently working on a something else. The word (which isn’t BIRD…sorry…Family Guy humor) is that it’s for the 2nd generation iPod touch currently named “redsn0w.” When this gets released, all iPod touch devices will be able to be jailbroken. We’ll keep you all informed with any news we hear! Hope all goes well!

iPhone Nano

Author : rooster

Although I was very skeptical at first, the possibility of an iPhone Nano is increasing. A report from Digitimes reports that the chip manufactures Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company and United Microelectronics Corporation are supposedly ordering the chip sets for the iPhone Nano. If at all, the release would probably hit the stores in June.

One bad thing for those in the US is that the release is speculated to hit mainly China because it presents a more ideal market. This may be true, but I believe it would would most likely hit the US first.

More to come,

Windows 7 – nearly ready

Author : rooster

Windows 7 is coming soon. After microsofts latest release – vista – our expectations are not very high. However, don’t be too surprised if microsoft reclaims it’s terribly injured name just a little bit. So far microsoft has been pretty confident.
Well, if you can’t make up your mind then test it for yourself. This Friday they were supposed to release a beta for testing. But, and this should not come as too big of a surprise, they delayed it for another couple of days. We will see when the next release comes out.

iTunes DRM FREE!!

Author : rooster

Well, it has finally happened. No, not the ipod Touch 2G jailbreak but something pretty cool nonetheless. This is a huge step for iTunes because they are finally opening up a bit.  So there will be some price changes all around: 69 cents, 99 cents, and $1.29. Another great thing is that the iPhone will allow 3G downloads.

The change will be put into affect on April first while the 3G downloads are already hot. One big problem for me is the encoding rate of the songs they will be receiving.  Although the old iTunes was the same this new one will still only have the songs encrypted at 256kbps (which is great for most users).  For those fellow FLAC users: sorry.

Here is what Steve Jobs had to say on the matter:

“We are thrilled to be able to offer our iTunes customers DRM-free iTunes Plus songs in high quality audio and our iPhone 3G customers the ability to download music from iTunes anytime, anywhere over their 3G network at the same price as downloading to your computer or via Wi-Fi. And in April, based on what the music labels charge Apple, songs on iTunes will be available at one of three price points — 69 cents, 99 cents and $1.29 — with many more songs priced at 69 cents than $1.29.”

sounds good.

I’m back!

Author : rAwks

Hello to all of you! If you are new to joining this site, my name is rAwks and I use to be a writer for this site. I use to be a writer about the time when firmware 1.1.4 came out…it’s been a while. Even though I left the site for a while, I still kept my 1G iPod touch hacked to the max. I currently have 2.1 firmware installed on mine and I’m not upgrading yet…I think my device is perfect as is. If you need any help with your iPod touch, don’t be afraid to ask in a comment or even email is fine. If I don’t know the answer, I’ll be in search to find a correct answer for you. As all the writers on this site, we do have lives too…so I’ll try to reply ASAP. If you want to know more about me, read my first post I ever posted on this site.

Chronic Back at Work!

Author : rooster

Just some great news I recently read on the Chronic Dev Blog:

“In other news, break is over, time for work and school again. More importantly, time for me to slow down on hacking my new Apple TV and start working on iPod Touch 2G again. Yes, I take a vacation just like everyone else that is reading this blog.”

Just some happy news for the New Year.
