We’ve all heard about the new 3G iPhone coming out July 11 ONLY costing a whooping $199 are you out of your mind. Lots of people are stoked that the price dropped pretty low…even cheaper than an iPod Touch. People don’t realize the catch the iPhone has brought amongst the eager people that wait in line to get the 3G iPhone the first day it releases. Well, the iPhone is MUCH cheaper than the original one, but the plan for the phone went up. So…in the long run you’re actually paying about $40-$50 more than you would original pay with the old iPhone and the old rate plan. People probably wouldn’t mind coughing up that $40-$50 because you do get a faster phone. Since the iPhone dropped lower than the iPod Touch, do you think the iPod Touch price will go down also?!? I would imagine that the iPhone should be more expensive than the iPod Touch. What are your thoughts about this? Also, if you do have an older iPod Touch and you do actually update to get the App Store…why do iPod Touch owners have to pay $10 for the App Store?!? When you pay $10 for the App Store, you still have to pay for the apps you want…so…why don’t they just give the App Store for FREE?!? Just a few thoughts about that.
A couple of apps now are charging to have their programs on your device. I had the game Pool on my iPod touch and there was an update in Installer. I thought the update would fix any bugs or add new options or something. In reality, the update just changed one option…the option that you have to purchase a license to play the game. There is a trial button, but I was a bit disappointed that apps now are charging to use their programs. I can’t really complain or anything because these developers DO put A LOT of time into their work. I was just wondering that if I’m paying to have these games or apps through a jailbreak, shouldn’t we just get the App Store and pay for it and have these apps legally?!? Don’t get me wrong, I’m not telling developers to stop charging because they do deserve a little reward for all they do, but I would rather donate a little something instead.
Just wanted to see people’s opinions on these few things that I wrote about. Also a reminder, Lone Stag stated DO NOT UPDATE ANYTHING..FIRMWARE…ITUNES…NOTHING!!! You can do all that if you want to lose your jailbreak, but for now…keep it old school. Someone will EVENTUALLY jailbreak the firmware…someone always does! Hope all goes well!

Since rAwks created his own Top 5 Apps post, I thought it was only fair that I steal the idea from him. In no particular order, here are my top 5 favorite applications.
1. PowerTool
- Powertool is found in the iHackers repo (pretty sure in Community Sources or Big Boss). It is a really simple tool. All it does is is Re-Spring the Springboard (by reseting the language or by restarting it) or reboots your iPod (turning it off and back on again). I like it because sometimes Installer doesn’t work right or refreshes don’t work at all. I have never had a problem with it and it has always served me well.
2. Mobile Chat
- Mobile Chat is found in the repo “twenty08.com/installer”. It is without a doubt the best chat client ever made for the iPod. It supports AOL, AIM, .mac, XMPP, MSN, and ICQ. It has a great interface and supports the accelerometer so that you can flip it sideways to type. It runs in the background too, if you want to do other stuff when you are logged on. If you don’t have time to turn on your computer to check your IM client, or you just want to IM on your iPod, this app is for you.
3. Summerboard
- Summerboard is found in the Community Sources source (under System). Summerboard is the basic app that shows people that you have hacked your iPod. With different background pics, app icons, and styles, this app creates a more personalized feeling with your iPod (see also, Customize). This app is the symbol of pwnership (Yeah, I made that word up) of your iPod.
4. SendFile and SwapPlugins
- These apps are afound in the iSpazio source “repo.iSpazio.net” (found in Utilities). You have to make sure you install the Jiggy Runtime (in Community Sources in the Development folder). These apps allow you to download songs from Safari (on the website “seeqpod.com”). Once installed, go into the SwapPlugins app and click “Enable Downloading”. Then go into Safari, type in the website (seeqpod.com) and search for your song. When you find it, click on it. Then click download and wait for it to finish. Look in the SendFile app, click the file and click “play audio”. Now you can get free music. To get the songs off your iPod, you will have to find the folder by SSH’ing into your iPod. Read my post on how to SSH to find out how.
5. Make it Mine
- Make it Mine is found in Community Sources in the Utilities folder. Not a whole lot to this app, but it is pretty cool. By default, at the top left side of the screen it says iPod (or AT&T if you own an iPhone). This app allows you to change that. You can write whatever you want on it, like your iPod’s name (if you name your iPod) or your own. Personally, I wrote “iPwnd” just because I felt like it. Take that Apple.
So there you are. Pretty cool stuff, eh? Way better than rAwks’s I bet (just kidding rAwks). Comment on my choice if you feel like it, or add your own favorites.
Also, if you need help with your iPod, email me at “LoneStag01@aim.com”. I do not reply to posts, unless to say that. Posts are for thanks or help from other hackers. I will answer your emails. Guaranteed.

With the announcement of the iPhone 3G comes news of updates with Apple. DO NOT UPDATE ANYTHING! DO NOT update to new versions of iTunes, DO NOT install new firmware versions and DO NOT buy the new iPhone when it comes out.
‘But why shouldn’t I?’
Believe it or not, Apple is kinda smart. They are bound to make things harder on hackers who are creating jailbreaks (Zibri and cmw). You need to let them figure things out before you go ahead and update, then complain that your iPod won’t jailbreak.
Read upcoming blogs to get the information you need about these updates.

The iPhone 3G is set to be announced during the 2008 WWDC (Apple Worldwide Developers Conference) which will begin on Monday (June 9th) with a keynote speech by Steve Jobs. Apple has not been selling the iPhone at their online store for almost a month which usually means a new product will replace the existing product. Rumors are also spreading that other touch products could be announced which is less likely but you never know…
Here is a link dump of interesting news and rumors about the iPhone 3G and other Touch related products that are could be announced by Apple on Monday. Some of the stories have discrepancies so take everything as a grain of salt until details from Apple are announced.

Here is how to jailbreak using winpwn. It runs pretty smoothly, getting rid of a lot of bugs you run into when using iLiberty or ZiPhone. Do not use this if your iPod is working fine. This is for people who want less bugs and custom images. Pretty cool, I must say. 1. Download stuff.
2. Pwn Your iPod
- Plug in your iPod
- Make sure it is running firmware 1.1.4
- Open WinPwn
- Click “browse.ipsw”
- Select the 1.1.4 firmware file
- Click “iPwner”
- Put your iPod into Recovery Mode-Hold the home and power buttons until the iPod turns off. Then wait until you see your iPod turn on with the apple logo. Let go of the power button, while still holding the home button. When you see the “Connect to iTunes” logo, you are in recovery mode.
- Your iPod has been pwned. Now onto the jailbreak
3. Creating your own firmware
- Click “IPSW Builder”
- In the “Add Source” box, add the source “ipodtouchmaster.com/files/repo.xml”
- In categories, go to “iPhone 1.1.4 Applicationss” and install “iPhone 1.1.4 Apps”
- In “System”, add BSD Subsystem, Installer, and OpenSSH
- In “Utilities” add BossTool
- Go to “Development” and install “Jiggy runtime”
- In sources, add them all
- These are the main essentials. If you have hacked your iPod before and know what you are doing, add more sources and install more stuff
4. Creating custom images
- Click the “Custom Images” tab
- Click “Use Custom Pictures”
- Pick something
- When you are all done and ready, click “Build.ipsw”
- Save the file somewhere where you will remember it (i recommend the desktop)
5. Finish Up
- Plug in your iPod. Run iTunes and hold shift and click restore
- Select the newly created file
- Let it restore
- Once restored, a window will pop up on your iPod and say winpwn is finished.
- If it freezes after this, hold power and home until it turns off. Then turn it back on.
- On your home screen, click BossTool
- Click Free Disk Space
- Click Relocate Fonts
- Go to installer and uninstall BossTool (sources will refresh first)
- Install anything else you want
This is the first draft of the jailbreak. It is still relatively new. IF you run into any problems, leave a post. I will check them out.
Good luck.
Lone Stag
